  • what if i dont have a speed light? can i use a flashlight, similar to a painting with light idea?

  • I tried this with a navy car and it picks up too many reflections of the flash. Any tips on preventing the reflections?

  • @nicpham try with a softbox!

  • Thought I was watching Transformers for a second.

  • great tip... keep up the good work..

  • try painting with light, will look much better. also if you're shooting 2.8 go up a little 1-2 stops

  • Love the Marine Corps Cadence for the background music

  • ahh muy buen tutorial!! me gusta!

  • Whats the first song called? everything in this vid is awesome btw

  • @DGizzle4life the unit theme song

  • This is actually 100X easier if you use a flash light for the majority of the ligthing, and a speedlight for effects. This way you reduce the chance of getting those hot spots where the stobe reflects off of the car. However, using only a speed light, if done correctly, looks a better.

  • Interesting.. I will try with my black car. Tks.

  • Have you tried this with a black or very dark car? Silver is one of the best colors to photograph because it doesn't show speculars nor reflections as bad as other, darker colors.

  • @dwdallam Yes , i tried! The darker colour will be good a softbox or an umbrella.

  • @Zeke99751 But you will see the reflection of the umbrella in the paint?

  • great tutorial! name of the last song?

  • Love the Marine Corps Cadence in the music.

  • nice GC!

  • When you say 1/32, do you mean the speed of the speedlight? Or the shutter speed?

  • @CSibbSubaru speedlight power , the canon 430ex can be fire 43 by asa standard

  • @CSibbSubaru Speedlite, there is no such thing as 1/32 of a second dude!

  • @HEREONOUTBAILEY The 580EX11 can go as low as 1/64 power.

  • Immensely boring - cut to the chase without all the dramatic audio.

  • Érdekes...rég kontaktom vagy a flikkeren,és a tecsődre csak most leltem rá!:):)

  • nagyon klassz az eredmeny

  • @jochemvdsluijs nothing.

... you are the first who ask the songs name...

  • @jochemvdsluijs Read?

  • AMAZING JOB :) am getting a new External and i already have an idea :P thanks to you guys :) Thumbs up :]

  • OMFG HELL YA BUGEYE send me a picture of that car.

  • wish u did more behind the scenes but pretty good info

  • at the very end is that music from the movie 'the rock'? It sounds familiar...

  • @lepeanut I believe that is from one of the Transformers movies. At least, that is what it reminded me of

  • Nice one, great job and many thanks for posting this very useful trick.

    cheers

  • Do you say "speedlight" instead of flash because you think it makes you sound like you know something? I know you use a speedlight but this old technique can be used with any flash...

  • @dima9944 You must have some serious issues.

  • @jupiterswan1 Thank you for replying to my comment!

  • 1st class vid.

  • The first song played, what is the title and who is the artist?

  • sorry for being so critical, but honestly, the same picture could have been taken 2 hours earlier in the day with no flash and you would have the exact result.. too much of you surrounding is flooded with the light and keeps the attention from the car, sure if you are stuck shooting a car at night this would work, but most people who shoot cars at night with a flash do it for a dramatic affect where the background is darkened or at sunset, but the car has dramatic highlights you dont see at nite

  • 3:46 nice, good idea to leave the interior lights on!

  • do u think a strobe flash would work as well?

  • do you think a strobe flash would work as well?

  • Comment removed

  • Are you using the flash off camera or on?

  • @mattistheman940 ; @oskrgt

    I use a Canon 430EX!

  • @Zeke99751 well i know that but is the flash mounted to the hotshoe or is it on a stand?

  • @mattistheman940 He's holding it, pinwad.

  • Nice teqnique!!! excuseme what kind of speedlite did u use??? does it was the 580ex(Canon)

  • whats a speedlight? is it the same thing as flash

  • nice video!

  • nice vid !

and what is the name of the song ?

  • nice video!

  • Megkaptam a kepeidet! Nagyon jo vagy! Gratulalok! Orvendek h Magyarorszagrol is kaptam valakit aki ilyen kepeket keszit!Tovabbi jo munkat!

  • Köszönöm!!

  • Nagyon szep kepek! Nincsen egy site vagy valami ahol meglehetne nezni a tobbi kepeidet is engem nagyon erdekelne mivel en is ezzel foglalkozom :) Kulonben hasznos a a video tanultam belole!

  • Why the higher ISO? why not stick to 100 to squeeze every grain of quality out of the shoot? especially seeing as you have full control over the lighting...

Good video though, I learnt a lot... =)

  • because you have a really short time to lighten the car , and a bit more distance what the speedlite can handle it.

  • @Zeke99751 So, why not open the flash up to 1/8 and drop the ISO to 100 - you'll get the same exposure, with less noise.

  • What is the classical music on your vid man, its amazing!!!

  • Murray Gold - Unit

  • Dr Who Soundtrack FTW :)

  • sure you can go with 15", but 30 secs gives you more time to do a good job with the flasgun ..

you don't need photoshop for this effect ..

  • so u do pop the flash the whole time in those 30" or can you take a photo thats like 15" and take more photos then edited them in photoshop

  • Awesome technique! I'll have to try this one day.

  • thanks for the vid! well done!

  • hey man, the music is from The unit? whats the title?

  • this is the unit theme song!

  • Brilliant Technique dude. Just love it. Watched it again n again. God bless you.

  • ok, just for the record..speedlight flashes are made by nikon..canon flashes are named speedlite..

  • interesting technique. will give it a shot. thanks!

  • Great video, thanks

  • How did you made the speedlite to flash continuously from different direction?

  • I used pilot button and kept in my hand

  • what is a 1/1 with bouncer also? sorry, I'm new to all of this.

  • the 430ex can be used in ettl or manual mode. what the he meant was that he put the flash in manual and set it to 1/1 (full power) and used a diffusion panel to soften up the light a bit (do a search for bounce cards and you will get an idea) hope tha helps.

  • Flash is at full power, and the bouncer's function should be rather apparent from its shape. It directs stray light from the flash onto the subject.

Also you can use Auto Focus, if you use a flashlight to shine on the car to allow the AF system to lock, then turn off the light,.

  • @tech951

great tip! where can I learn more from you? Im serious.

  • lmao at the epic music. What is a speedlight and how is it different to a built in flash?

  • Nice work! *****

  • Genius!

  • good stuff!

  • Mi az első szám címe?

  • Az Egység c. sorozat főcímzenéje.

  • Very cool, I love seeing inexpensive ways of doing things!!! NICE!

  • Great video great technique!!!! p.s. what is the music playing??

  • when? :)

  • The intro from the tv-series The Unit. =)

  • Speedlight is Nikon. Speedlite is Canon. :P

  • Yeah , right! But you can use both for this one! ;) So it's doesn't matter. :)

Anyway , thank You for the correcting! :)

  • Great tutorial. Thanks :)

  • *****

  • cool.
