I use Elixir light (12-54) nanoweb on my guitar and its sounds similer to this.

the secret is to use a really thick pick. for my acoustic to sound like this i use a 1.5 to 2 mm pick. and i bet those guys use a pick like that to.

(Also, its best to have a dreadnought style acoustic for this kind of strumming)
