@Membrane556 The error was even worst of this: at time 16 bit Atari ST was launched and Commodore was loosing time with plus 4 instead of producing its new Amiga...
Punks had a Commodore 64. Future leaders of the planet had a C-16 or C Plus 4 :D - OR BOTH like me! ............and then got a C64 off a mate cause I wanted to play Ghostbusters ;-)
True... now the same people that beat us up are the ones that can't live without all the things we invented for them. Of course, they're still the ones that say things like:
"128 colors!!!! 64K Memory!!! Holy Sh1t! This thing...IS TOTAL FvCKNG GAR-B!TCH!!!"
I was one of the few victims who bought a Commodore plus 4 before it was discontinued, and I was stuck without any programming games or applications for it. It was not compatible with C64 programs, so I couldn't use those. It was about 4 years before I gave up and bought a C64.
This ad popped up roughly six months to a year after I bought my plus 4 at full price, as Commodore tried to dump its inventory. >:-(
When u say more limited, i assume u mean by the availability of software?
Few facts of the Plus 4 vs C64:
CPU: 8501 @ 1.75Mhz / 6510 @ ~1Mhz
Memory: 64KB / 64KB
Color resolution: 121 / 16
Id say it mustve been ahead of the C64 for a lot of things, especially for doing calculations as the CPU was more powerful and also for making graphics due to the large pallette. :-)
The plus/4 might have been a little better spec wise but that model just didn't have the huge attractive software library the 64 had, so it failed (imho). Still, a cool micro, i mean i'm here searching for plus 4 demos today. But c'mon, compare a 64 or a plus 4 to a 16-bit mac, iigs, st or miggy.
I know. I was one of them.. But my Apple IIe was worth it. haha. Did you notice that the announcer states that retailers originally sold this computer for 299.95, and they are showing the ad in the Sears catalog and it clearly shows 299.99 lol! On one hand, so what, he was off by a few cents, but when you are showing something on the screen that you are quoting, make sure you quote it correctly. :)

One big mistake Commodore made was making all the plus 4's ports incompatible with the C64's.

@SettimaLegione
Agreed an all new but incompatible 8bit machine towards the end of the 8bit era was a mistake.
Commodore should have pushed the Amiga for the mid and high range and simply kept the C64 and later C128 for the low end.
Commodore really missed the ball on the Amiga as they also were capable office machines light years ahead of PCs and Macs at the time.

Srry but i dont believe the woman in the ad is supposed to look like a secretary, well at least not one thats at work. LOL
As far as i can tell, shes the "mother" of the "family" featured in the commercial apparently typing in a recipe from a womans magazine. ;-)

That was state of the art for the 1980s. Technology advances.

no it wasn't. it was released after the C64, but was a much more limited system.
it's too bad, because it looks much cooler than the c64.

It was a joke. The AVGN said something similar about the Sega CD. I thought more people would pick up on that....
