  • Donald Young....USTA quota player

  • all those people critasicing blake look at the score......

  • nigga vs nigga

  • @holtbrad94 what a stupid friggin comment, do you have to work less hard to become a pro if you have cash in the bank.

  • james blake rulessssssss

  • Best beastly forehands: Gonzalez, Blake, Federer, Tsonga, Monfils (when he really goes for it), del Potro, Soderling......

  • @BrotherTree1 also almagro, he can really rip it when he gets a ball in his strike zone

  • @jamnsocks Yeah, they're pretty great when he gets them in position.

  • I didnt even see de bal!! ooo I guess is because of the quality

  • That's right, Blake! Smash that ball! HARD!

  • i like dis sexy black boys

  • Blake yesterday outdid himself to in the match

  • OH!!!!!!!!!!How D hell did he managed it

  • and blake gives him a bit of hows your father

  • alot of people say federer hits flat balls. that's absolutely false. half of his shots have lots of spins. he actually seldomly hits the balls very flat.

  • This pretty much sums up the problem with American tennis over the last few years when Blake and Roddick were in their prime. Neither one of them were great thinkers on the court...which is especially surprising for Blake considering how intelligent he is. If you look at Nadal, Federer, Djokovic and Murray they all play smart games. Sure they can knock the cover off the ball, but none of them do it on every single shot. They play smart, percentage tennis and that's the reason why they win...

  • This is what happens when you let black people play tennis

  • @iDjGio wait...WHAT?! explain yourself immediately.

  • @iDjGio huh? what happens? douches like you comment on his race? yeah. ur right in that respect.

  • I miss this guy...

  • Blakes biggest match besides when he beat Roger at the olympics was the match allso against Roger in USO 03 i think, where he lost! Allso recall from some highlights of that match that he fired some ubelieveable fast forehands dtl there! But nothing beats Delpos forehands against Roger in USO 2009! The power of Delpo made Roger seem ten times smaller and more average!

  • i would like to see the entire match.

  • Not better than Gonzalez On my Opinion!

  • Too bad Blake can't even win the first round of any tournament now.

  • Blake doesn't know how to play higher percentage tennis. He can play as smash mouth as he can play, but he'll never pass the top 10. Guys like Roddick, Nadal, and Federer smash him to bits at his own game, and they know how to play high percentage too.

Far as Young goes.......so talented, but SO green. WAY WAY too many mistakes right now to dent the elite. Just saw him play Marc Giquel on a youtube vid here, and he had like 20 unforced errors in the first set alone.

  • @jakemcclain30 Why include Roddick? He's a shadow of his former self, ever since he started pushing. Sure, he'll beat a lot of lower ranked guys, but to bring it to the best and to win the best like he did back in 2003, he'd be better off playing that type of tennis.

And what do you mean "he'll never pass the top 10"...? He was number 4 in the world in 2006, the reason why he isn't the player he was is down to age and his body breaking down.

  • @SoooBlue I meant he'll never pass it again, but good catch.

And Roddick WILL beat Blake at his own game, and count on that. Roddick's problem is simply his head. He doesn't believe in himself. He has the tools.

  • @jakemcclain30 Blake's 31, it's highly likely that he will never make the top 10 again, in fact, i'd bet my house on it. Roddick's game is nothing like blake's these days and never really was, so god knows what you're talking about.

  • @jakemcclain30 roddicks problem is not "simply" his head. i've always believed that if roddick had 1/8 the natural talent that blake had he'd have won at least 3 grand slams.

  • Donald Young sucks

  • It's a beautiful shot, but I can say I'm blown away cause you're supposed to be able to do that when opponents so out of place and the ball is so shallow

  • I hate flashing segways

  • Look up the match between Monfils and Young at Cincy? a few years ago. Monfils had some type of illness - flu or something. He looked exhausted, was sweating uncontrollably, like he was ready to faint. So Monfils just starts smacking the crap outta every ball - no more running around. And he ends up just blowing Donald off the court.

  • awesome shot. I don't think many people appreciate the difficulty of that shot. It's not just the pace of it, but the way he took it early with prestine footwork was very impressive.

  • his forehand must be as fast as one of andy's smashes lol

  • Go to Gonzalez vs Reynolds at 3:56

such a fast devolution, alike the blake one against faurel

  • If you want the single hugest forehand type in "Gael Monfils forehand"

  • aka the gael force

  • lol so true

  • Nobody is saying a down the line forehand from that position is super difficult. What's impressive is the sheer pace of shot.

  • @megabullie1 Actually the pact that it had no pace makes it harder for him to hit a really hard forehand.

  • Blake is still a great tennis player, regardless. Not everyone can be an anime character and make everything.

But this video shows exactly why Donald was thrown to the wolves too early. Blake crushed that forehand and him when he was just 18-19 years old. kills the pysche.

  • This sums up Blake's problem. He only wants to impress the crowd with low percentage highlight reel shots. This video doesn't show you the 5 of these he missed before getting one in.

  • Blake said he tried to play higher percentage tennis and his ranking dropped. He reached the top 10 when he went back to smash mouth tennis. Similarly, Santoro said he tried to play a conventional style, but didn't reach top 50 until he decided to play slice, off speed, strange tennis. Similar in that they recognized their strengths and designed idiosyncratic games that would maximize their abilities. Not everybody can be Davydenko.

  • Black has great speed, great shots, and great intelligence (he has a commercial law degree if I'm not mistaken). He should be a top 3 player. He just needs a good coach who can teach him to play the right kind of percentage tennis. Why keep playing between the leg shots when he has plenty of time to run around it??? Such a frustrating player to watch.

  • Isn't a little late for Blake to resurrect his game with a new coach. The guy is 30 yrs old - up there in tennis years.

  • nvr too late unless ur forty but if im not mistaken i think agassi was like 35 or 34 when he went to the open final against federer in 06

  • I agree to a certain extent. But if you look at all the greats: Borg, Laver, Connors, Mac, Pete, even Andre, Edberg, Lendl, Becker, Courier, Safin, etc. - almost all win their majors withing a 10 yr time frame. Connors played for a long time but his G.S. major wins occurred with a 10 yr time frame. Being fairly small in stature, Donald needs to win earlier than bigger players who take longer to develop.

If is not like golf where you can be competitive even in your 40's.

  • @ChaunceyDos What do you mean about Davydenko ?

  • @ChaunceyDos What do you mean about Davydenko ? sorry but i don't understand it ?

  • @mechkapechka davydenko is known to be a player that plays percentages with a very mechanical, defined style of tennis that does not take excessive risk.

  • @purgatory13z oh .. i forgot yes :)

  • @ChaunceyDos That was the best comment I ever saw on a tennis video.

  • @ChaunceyDos davydenko I agree, put davydenko is far from a pusher...he's consistent as a backboard but he's consistent with heavy, hardhitting shots. Each of his shots are hit with pace, depth, spin, and consistency.

  • @ChaunceyDos WHAT MEANS "NOT EVERYBODY CAN BE DAVYDENKO" ??

  • @federergreatest Davydenko plays the way that most coaches would love to teach. He takes the ball extremely early and almost never gets pushed off the baseline

  • @ChaunceyDos even Agassi said he have to play percentage to get to the top, when he smash every ball he can only get to 200. but you are right for some player is better to play their own style, and also improve in percentage and get the balance of both

  • @ChaunceyDos I agree and disagree. Maybe they don't care to be number one in the world or to be grand slam champions, and do it for the love of the sport, the expression, and artistry that is fully expressed in their very personally crafted games that seem to be extensions of themselves. BUT. If you want to win, and be the best, you need to make your weaknesses your strengths, and that will ask for change, failure, and lots of patience to wait through the losses. slowly it all comes together.

  • @ChaunceyDos Maybe the smartest comment on a Youtube video about tennis.

Embrace your strengths, no matter what they are.

  • @ChaunceyDos there is a difference between santoro's and blake's case though. santoro can only play his style of tennis. but it's not about blake's style of tennis (it's totally conventional), but making smarter plays. he could have also hit the same forehand with slightly less power and more security and still clearly mark the point. he does not have to change his tennis, just see that his weakness are too many unforced errors. reducing your errors doesn't mean you have to change who you are.

  • @ChaunceyDos Eh, not really. When James found form from 2005-2008, he adopted a much more conservative style of play. Instead of hitting balls that pulled him off the court very hard, he would play a sliced shot to keep him in the point for sure. Yes, he still hit very big winners from low percentage places, but he was definitely playing a much more mature style in those years. After he got some injuries after 2008, he reverted back and has struggled to find consistent form.

  • I actually find that a lot of times, the high percentage shot is lot harder to hit than the low percentage shot mainly because you have to hit so many more of the high percentage shots to win the point.

  • @dodododa Everybody has a style to them but James blake doesnt go out to hotdog and showboat for the crowd.

  • @dodododa I wouldn't go that far, he's playing in America in this video, the USO, there was even a section of the crowd that was dressed up and cheering for him, he obviously wants to do well for the home crowd and the home support. You don't see him yelling anything or pumping his fist after this point or countless other ones, so I don't know where you're going with the notion that he only wants to impress the crowd.

  • @dodododa or he just hits it hard?? youre completely wrong about him trying to impress the crowd. this is his game and you are a jerk

  • cool young got a set off blake.

  • i think this was the five set match they played

  • That's why I love James Blake. That was a brutal forehand. Black on black violence... lol

  • Watch it dumb ass! Let me guess, you're mentally inferior! Oww!

  • it was out

  • lol you're cross eyed

  • Sick =)

  • i just watched Donald yesterday at a futures and he has really improved like last year he wasn't as great but i think that he could do more cause he has pulled out like 20 wildcards so i think he could do more.

  • that was a good match I watched the whole thing and donald had really improved from the year before. he got stronger, smarter , but he still had a poor attitude and it cost him.

  • i remember watching this. and i remember john's comments about him in the olympics. if only he had won!

  • Bitch slap against the kid. Welcome to pro tennis.

  • .....Jesus.....

That looked faster than Monfils 118 MPH World Record Forehand Bomb.

  • and mcenroe just cant keep his mouth shot

  • damn that was big

  • johnster06 haha thats what she said, but yeah that was a pretty good forehand

  • hahahaha get out of here michael scott jk,

  • that was huge

  • I think Blake broke the sound barrier after he crushed that forehand.

  • I was rooting for james blake, but a part of me wanted young to win. He was really good

  • i wonder how fast that went

  • go blake!!! what a killer forehand he has. :)

  • I was there, I am a big blake fan but i have been watching young for years. 2nd best match i have been to at the open and the 1st was the semifinal that roddick played the year he won the us open

  • JB!!! Is a beast I was at that match amazing!

  • I am glad that james won, because donald would've lost his next round match.James is United State's best hope.

  • james 4ever!!

  • wow this was a grea match i wanted young to win ...

  • okay, it was nice but donald young had James Blake SCARED. Don't worry, Donald Young will have his chance...VERY SOON SO GET READY!

  • wow, that's big..!!!
