Ah, a staple for lazy French teachers, especially if they worked the Durham Board of Education in Ontario. But even if you couldn't follow the dialogue, you could just wait till Sol did something funny, then laugh.
I found this on a VHS at the library several years ago. There were a few episodes, including one where he goes to the movie theater. Unfortunately, I never learned any french from watching these shows. I think you needed have at least a basic understanding already before the teaching on this show kicked in.
J'ai su comment a parler en Francais le premier fois dans ma vie par cette emission....j'suis pas bilangue, mais je peux parler un peu et comprendre mieux a cause de Marc Favreau....RIP
Thanks for uploading. We watched this in grade 7 French class. Also wrote to TV Ontario last year and they said they no longer have the rights to the show so they can't reair any of these.
Having watched this through again - I can't help but make a couple comments:
A) This show should be brought back (or a modern version thereof)
and
B) This particular episode, in 2007 would see Sol getting arrested and detained illegally as a threat to national security. He would probably have a private hearing in Federal court - a back room deal would be cut with the Yanks - and poor Sol would see the rest of his days being spent molested in Guantanamo Bay.
"This particular episode, in 2007 would see Sol getting arrested and detained illegally as a threat to national security."
A comment like this begs the question: Why must people interject their unsolicited, opinionated, political philosophy into normal forms of entertainment. I thought entertainment was supposed to be an escape from the real world.
This show KICKED ass... a friend just posted it on FaceCrack and I couldn't believe it... I've had conversations several times over the years of "What the hell was that show?!?! You know - the one with that crazy Quebecois clown?" Man this brings me back almost 3 decades. I think CBC should do a 'Life & Times' of the clown and host.
