Thanks for posting this. Santana’s best tune, imo; transports the listener to some sort of mystical, dream-like place. And the whole thing is just two chords. Incredible.
In the world of legendary guitarists alive, as Pat Metheny for jazz or Mark Knopfler for rock, Carlos Santana stays the Monarch for dream music ........ (..peace & love ..)
This is why Carlos hired the kid out of the dressing room jam session - Neal Schon. Now i get it, although I suppose I did previously - although in the day, no one thought Santana the group needed another guitar player. Didn't hurt, obviously. And the las Vegas Borboletta band track from devadip47 is supreme - with a scant 1500 views.
I watched them on the 13th of November at the Apollo and yep Sat the 13th was unluckily for me 'cos Neal and Gregg didn't join the band on that night. You were really lucky to be ! 2 x 7 =14 !
This song marked the end of a great era of music. Which I believe myself Carlos is the oiriginal colaberater, with this line up to begin with. After this album Carlos was considered The Great and sooner or later everyone was playing with him. I would like to get one more original Santana Band CD, I know Carlos itching to get a chance Mr. Clive Davis. Para La Raza Viva Santana cuz this old spirit ready to dance in the flesh!
I asked Neal ...lol from him..And he replied: on Caravanserai he plays the first part,Then Carlos comes after some 2 minutes and 43 seconds, then both in the end.I have also asked the man who recorded it,Glen Kolotkin, and he says he doesn´t remember, but he remembers the Carlos/Neal solos which he recorded on Santana 3.
This beautiful song is on "Caravanserai" Santana's fourth and in my opinion, their best, album. Incidentally Neal Schon is supposed to have done much of the playing in that recording of "Song of the Wind" . I find it very difficult to separate the two great guitars on the record, but I think I can hear both their voices distinctly here. Thanks for posting! And thanks to Carlos and Neal for so making this wonderful music.
@paperback10 Separating the sound is hard, since they actually made an effort to sound the same-Carlos and Neal spent hours to make the guitars sound the same. This is the beauty of the Song.
WOW! Thanks for posting this, I've been trying to get my bands over the years to play this song. Haven't yet ! I saw Santana at the Boston Garden in the early '70s and this song blew me away.
Isnt this song from Santana 4 (really cant spell it right now) lol I see Amigos art, there should be camels, dunes y a big sunset. Just kidding, got a good buzz right now. Go Carlos and the support for Med. Marijauna and the cause for legalization. Song of The Wind introduced Neal Schon to the world of Carlos Santana. After this song ( the original album cover) he hits it big with Journey. Dont you just love Rock and its many blessing of so many well establised artist. Que no?
Interesting. The ticket prices for gigs in 1976 were lower than the price of an album.. Now concert ticket prices are 5 or 6 times higher than the cost of a CD.
Stunned by this.My Favourite Santana song. I was at this concert. I was in the front row of the circle, right in front of carlos Santana. At the end I jumped up clapping, and nearly toppled over the front. Carlos noticed, waved at me and gave me a big grin.

@dadduorp Yes Journey was the opening act for several European shows including this one. Neal and Gregg would come out and join Santana for 2 or 3 songs each night.

Don't think the synth was cheesy, just a little loud in the mix here. And I think it's Neal-Carlos-Neal then both at the end, much like the original.

Other than the cheesy string synth, this is great! Would love to have more background on this performance. Was Journey on the same bill as Santana?
