  • at first when i was deciding on getting a boat i thought at first to buy a canoe,then i wanted a kayak,finally last summer i built a pirogue and i love it! never thought before plywood could be so strong and durable,i like floating over underwater weeds fishing for pike in inches of water i just can't get enough of the unique design! its so simple yet versatile,good job you guys

  • Those big cypress trees that are left were hollow when the old loggers came thru. They used hand saws and axes so they only harvested the good trees and left the bad ones.

    Nope, never been to that lake. Any place in the south that had cypress trees was heavily logged in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Those old snags and hollow cypress tree's were'nt worth cuttin and haulin so they are still there. My family on my dad's side has been in and out of the sawmill business since the late 1800's so I've heard lots of history about the swamps around Ga. and Fla.

    Pirogue is french for boat but in this case it's a Small flat bottom boat built by the Acadians (Cajuns) in Louisiana. Traditionally they were carved out of cypress trees. Today they are fiberglass or woodcore with fiberglass coating.
