Steve. You're very smart. But science has proved this concept wrong. Insulin stores fat. Keeping your insulin lower helps you lose weight faster. The science makes perfect sense people lose 20 ibs there first month quite often with the dunkin or atkins diet. I will say this, low carb diets are not best for fitness but as weight loss tools they are second to none.
Even in your opening statement of calories per fat and carb, you state that removing anything would lower the calorie intake, correct? The only problem w/ this logic, is that carbs are replaced w/ a higher fat / protien intake. By your own calculations, we would surely be doubling our calorie intake and still losing weight. The lack of high-end non fiberous carbs in the system is the reason for the weight loss. Cleaner fuel for your engine (protien) is much more healthier than low octane (carbs)
Fuck you, dip shit. You're brain washing everyone! Piece of shit, explain why a diabetic eating a 2500 cal diet, composed of mostly carbs, can shift to a high-fat (low-carb) diet of the same amount of calories, and rid himself of diabetes type 2? was it because of the amount of calories? Do calories determine insulin levels? Do you really think your body has a built-in calculator to count each and every single calorie? Do you think our ancestors ate high carb diets for that matter? UNSUBSCRIBE!
man come on im on a low carb diet only taking cup of green beans and total of 12 gm carbs in ma shakes so the total carb of ma day is under 30 gm !!! having very high protein diet and low fat too and im cutting very well for 3 months and gaining muscles in the same time and no side effects its the best diet ever !!!! i go on 6 days low carbs and one day high carb ma weekend day and it works well ???

Steve, Thanks for the information. I have been on a "low carb diet for 4 months now and am loosing weight. However I have tweaked it a bit. I consume mostly chicken and tuna with some other fish. I do consume carbs but only simples like whole grains, beans, brown rice etc. The combination seems to work well with out the side effects of the traditional low carb diets. Is this because I don't eat red meat (fatts)very often and because I still consume healthy carbs? Your'e thoughts. Thanks.
@Doberman4488 Eating whole grains and brown rice is not a low carb diet. You're losing weight because overall you're eating less calories. Leaner meats will also help.
@BodyPerformanceTV Steve. I guess you are right. I am not really on a low carb. I guess what i was asking is: I love eating meats and I like whole grain carbs, beans etc. I am still consuming the same bulk of food (loosing weight) but is this combination just less calories because of the kind of foods I am eating. why is this combo working. I am also weight lifting and doing cardio 4 times a week.
@Doberman4488 THAT will help too! Keep up the good work.
Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Go there search & Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve
@Doberman4488 Not only are you probably consuming less calories from fat and overall, but if you're eating beans and rice your actually eating complex carbs which are fibers and starches, and are healthy, sugars are the simple ones..just to correct you. Working out is also helping, and if your eating more fish also then your getting more good fatty acids, so good job keep it up and never abandon those beans lol
@justlegal21 Thanks! Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Go there search & Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve
In the long run a low carb way of living will be more healthy for you, then living on a carb oriented food intake. Its not about the amount of calories its more about what the ingredients does to your system.
@topheramazz ok? Sorry I would never cut carbs, and if what you say is true then heart disease would not be so high up. Also I don't see how increasing fat intake on a low carb diet would help, the only thing you should actually increase on a low carb diet is protein, not fat. Your body will use your protein for glucose when carbohydrates are missing. Fat cannot be converted to glucose, and saturated fat is very hard for the body to process, so I'm sorry but idk where you got that from.
@justlegal21 heart disease is not as high in countries and in cultures who dont eat as many carbohydrates. hormones like leptin and insulin are the real factors in fatloss.protein can be converted to glucose so their is no need for carbohydrate for that purpose but you forgot about ketones.the body and brain run optimally on ketones. dont get your diet info from a dietition. try a clinical nutritionist or do your own research. good luck.
@topheramazz ok? are you saying dietitians are wrong and people who search on Google are right? please... and I know what ketone bodies are and their not healthy if they accumulate, even if you develop ketosis they cannot give you enough energy to even keep you alive, and can cause many symptoms. Your brain uses carbohydrates for energy, not fat. Also just cause protein is converted to glucose doesn't mean you dont need carbs. Remember you need protein for other important things, not glucose.
@topheramazz I believe in real education, not a cult telling people doctors and registered dietitians are wrong, I'm studying nutrition so I don't need to do research, I learn facts, but same to you, believe what you will. Good luck
@justlegal21 Keep up with your education. It was great reading your posts. You're one of the few people on here that knows what the hell they're talking about. People who lack real knowledge have nothing left but attack doctors and registered dieticians.
as long as you eat enough protein on a lower carb diet you wont lose muscle mass.
low carb would be between 20 grams - 50 grams of carbs(from vegetables) daily for fatloss. increase cabs as neede for exercise intensity and post workout recovery. don't exceed 300 grams of carbs a day unless your extreamly physically active.
@topheramazz You can and will lose muscle mass on low carb no matter how much protein you consume. The reason you lose muscle on low carb is because of the lack of carbs. Protein will not protect you from that.
gluconeogenesis(in the liver) converts some of protein/ fat into glucose. if you don't eat enough protien muscle won't be spared.didn't say NO carb but LOW carb.seems that every time someone says "LOW CARB" everyone freaks , thinks it's NO CARB...why?humans aren't predominantly by nature sugar burners,we are fat burners. biology has proved this...get with it man.this isn't religion, u must have facts...
50-100 g. daily is all you need unless you are an elite/professional athlete
@topheramazz This is regarding another comment u put on another vid, you're wrong about gluconeogenesis, it doesn't convert fat into glucose, only protein, so if you believe that you're wrong. also you said our brain uses fat for energy, you're wrong again. we use carbohydrates for energy. I'd like to see where you r getting your "facts" from.
@justlegal21 Protein converts moreso than fat (excess fat will convert though).the brain uses some fat for energy( not exclusively though) Look up anything by a Reputable CCN, the science is clear and has been peer reviewed. great books with alot of info- "Good Calories Bad Calories"-By Gary Taubes or" How to eat move and be healthy" By Paul Chek or "primal Body Primal Mind" by Nora T. Gedgaudas. good luck.
@topheramazz & no, Fat has nothing to do with gluconeogenesis, you should really take a real nutrition course. Fat can't be converted to glucose to any extent, it's only made into ketone bodies, not glucose, so you can stop believing that. The brain, yea is made of mostly fat and cholesterol, that doesn't mean you can just eat fat and clog ur arteries with cholesterol, carbohydrates are the brain's main fuel source and protein is needed for other important things, not glucose.
@justlegal21 the body can convert 100% carbs,60% prot. and 10% fat into glucose.
the brain gets it's energy from ketones when insuffient glucose is available.after blood glucose is lowered for 3 days the brain gets 30% of it's energy from ketone bodies.@ 40 days this goes up to 70%. in time the brain reduces it's glucose requirements from 120g to 40g daily. the brain and heart operate 25% more effiently using ketones as a sourse of energy
@topheramazz You still don't get it, ketone bodies do give some energy when you're starving, but is not enough to even keep u alive, which is why even a fat person who is starving will die before we uses his his fat. The brain doesn't prefer to use ketones please stop talking nonsense. You won't convince me cus I know what I'm studying. And stop blaming carbohydrates I've eaten them all my life and I'm in great shape, so u can drop that theory. Go to school and learn facts.
@justlegal21- your brain actually prefers to be fueled by ketones,it does require glucose also but glucose can be easily converted from excess protein if needed or dietary fat. some evolutionary biologists accept(depending on evidence) that dietary fat is what spured brain evolution.
Sorry to gang up topher, but that is also correct. Our brains run on sugar,..(carbohydrates). And yes I know that Low carb does not mean NO carb. It means about 30-60 grams of carbs each day. Did low carb for about 14 months in total. Kept it to 50 g per day, but went off the diet every 2 weeks or so and had even more carbs. Nevertheless, I lost 45 lbs. in total and I by my waist/scale measurements, I believe that about 40% of it was muscle loss. You need to carbohydrate present to burn fat.
@topheramazz Well in many respects the jury is still out on saturated fats. In terms of weight-gain, the conversion time for saturated fat is relatively short. The calories from saturated fat will more likely be deposited on your body as fat. Saturated fat has been shown to reduce insulin sensitvity and increase inflamation. No debate there. It's the overall effect saturated fat has on BAD cholesterol is where there is a lot of discussion.
Fat replacement is the main focus right now. Replacing a certain amount of saturated fat with Polyunsaturated or Monounsaturated fats. Simply reducing Saturated fat and replacing it with carbohydrate....but particularly REFINED carbodydrates, does not improve and in fact can worsen cholesterol ratios and increase triglycerides. Please stop listening to Gary Taubes.
@topheramazz There is a multitude of reasons people gain weight. The main driver in weight gain is really related (in my opinion) to a decrease in caloric burn through an increase in inactivity. It's more related to what people are NOT doing then what they're eating. No one puts a lot of weight on over night or in a weeks time. Creeping obesity is the result of a consistant pattern of behavior over an extended period of time. Any reputable doctor or dietician will tell you that.
@topheramazz YES...whole grains are healthy. And by that I mean " WHOLE" grains. Not refined carbohydrates and processed food trying to pass itself off as whole grain. Your muscles will use the energy (ATP) from food as it's fuel source. That question alone along with some of the books you recommend already tells me who I'm dealing with. Good luck.
@brushfour44 for most people whole grains are a problem, u ever heard of gluten intolerance, leaky gut syndrome, lectins or phytates? they can also inhibit mineral absorbtion. consumption of grains(over time) can destroy the fat absorbing lactaels in the villi of duodenum. if you "must" eat grains, try fermenting or soaking them overnight to neutralize some phytates.sprouted grains are a good choice also.
"For MOST people grains are a problem." Are you kidding? NO topher...for very very few people grains are a problem. An extreme minority of people have gluten intolerance. You're focused on such the extreme edges of things so much that you're not seeing the main event. And boy are you wrong about ketones and gluconeogenensis. Evolutionary biologists theorize that the consumption of Omega-3 fats spurred brain evolution. It's a theory...and it has nothing to do with what we're talking about.
The reason I have sprouted grain bread,..is because it's not made from flour and is generally a bit more filling in the stomach so I'll consume less calories over the course of the day. You know NOTHING about whole grains and you're reading a lot of nonsense out of the Gary Taubes book or some other. Stop reading Gary Taubes and pick up books by more qualified people.
hey, im all for more knowledge and info. please send me some book names, authors, references, articles etc. im always searching for more info on topics of nutrition, health and fitness. if whatever you do subjectively works for u or your clients, then do it. there isn't one way for everyone in their health/fitness journey. thanks :)
@topheramazz It's NOT subjective. That's one of the problems with the Gary Taubes type of thinking. They suggest the idea that everyone is different and some rules apply to some and not too others. Then they'll bring in very rare cases of gluten intolerance to prove some point. Low carb dieting is a terrible way to produce ATP for energy. It's SO inefficient that it can not keep up with an athletes energy output and the athlete tires easily. Check out Clarence Bass or Covert Bailey.
@brushfour44 - i increase my carbs when i train heavily but rarely over 150g daily."carbloading"does not increase performance.
people are different in their responses to diet and exercise. i learned that my first year asa trainer. what learned in class and textbooks didnt prepare for what was effective for clients.cookiecutter approach to health/fitness wont cut it.people want results and pay for what works for them. C. Bass isa proponent of "doing what works for you".people are different.
@topheramazz C. Bass is NOT a proponent of " doing what works for you." He's always open to new ideas, but he'll tell you straight out in clear language what to avoid. He's very consistant about his message and VERY detailed as to why. He's has said NO to low carb dieting for THEE very same reasons Steve T. has said NO to low carb dieting. MANY things C. Bass has warned me about. On some I listened...and some I had to learn the hard way. Topher you'll be learning the hard way.
LOL....again...I cannot believe how accurate the video above really is. Lots of debate and arguements over low carb. This video above hits it so dead on the nail correct I can't believe. This is EXACTLY what is going on with Bowulfs bodycomp. THEE DAY he switches to a healthy diet he will improve. Within 4-6 weeks he could have a good physique and within 16 weeks he could have a very good physique. I don't know what to say. This is just a shame.
@brushfour bowolf just thinks he know more than everyone else when he is just getting brainwashed by the stupid atkins claims.. yep, is a shame. I wonder when was the last time he went to an actual registered dietitian, he probably has ketosis already, poor guy doesn't even know what he's doing.
I was feeling kind of bad about making the loose skin comment awhile back. People lose weight, they don't know exactly what they're doing,.but they lose weight. Do they lose a ton of muscle..YES, and some get loose skin..especially after a certain age or they were 700 lbs. Bowulf wasn't all that heavy. Lots of people walking around at his former weight. If he got off that stupid low carb his muscles would fill out, he'd get stronger and leaner and look better. His bodyfat is well over 22% now.
I looked at his video and pictures. Bowulf does NOT have loose skin. He has HIGH bodyfat, against reduced lean muscle mass. He has EXACTLY the problem I had when I did low carb. Reduced lean muscle mass against a strangely high bodyfat considering all the exercise. The reason they look like Kemo patients is because you have muscles in your face, head and neck that are also reduced on top of the effect low carb has on your skin. This is odd, this guy could turn THIS WHOLE THING around in 6 weeks.
"A 60 minute core" workout is useless. Bowulf, that core workout is not going to allow you to see your abdominal muscles. You need to lower your body fat percentage by making a SLIGHT cut to your daily caloric intake, eating more natural carbs, starting a resistance training program, and adding in more intense cardiovascular exercises. Walking also helps burn up extra calories without overtraining you. The "Core" is a Madison Avenue term for the spinal erectors, abdominal, and hips muscles.
Why is it that most low carb/Atkin's diet users look like cancer patients going thru Kemo ? I've been looking around and you all look kind of weak. If you're on low carb diets how do you properly do cardio or weight lifting? Answer: you don't !
"how do you properly do cardio or weight lifting? "
I lift three times a week and can bench my body weight a complete set. I also run on average 20-45 miles per week depending what week of marathon training it is. My best half marathon time is 1:42:00 (7:45 pace), which beat over 3/4ths the race field of over 1500 runners. My full marathon time is just over 4 hours well under the median time for each marathon. I believe my results speak for themselves.
My body looks fine, and I'll take your comments with a grain of salt for someone with no videos. The performance of my body speaks for its ability, and as for how it looks, beauty is in eye of the beholder. Frankly, your opinion means nothing.
@TheAtomicDon You're correct about the low carb. LOL Brushfour is done talking to Bowulf as he found out his workout is "Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred" and "10 Minute Trainer" I remember Brushfour once told me in the Military Two Mile Run he tested out UNDER 9 minutes! Brushfour is in better shape than this guy, I am in better shape than this guy, and so are you!
@bowulf haa! ignorance, look who's talking mr. block people who know more than you, why don't you accept the fact that you r wrong and that the only reason your diet works is because people are eating less, not because is healthy. But then again, I'm ignorant, yet I know more about nutrition than you ever will, I really hope your diet never does you harm, but you goint the wrong way
@bowulf bowolf you don't know anything about nutrition, atkins diet is not healthy and does NOT burn fat if that's what u think, the only reason is working is cus people end up eating almost 45% less. learn something instead of giving more people heart problems
Relationship of Running Intensity to Hypertension, Hypercholesterolemia, and Diabetes
"When adjusted for km per day, each meter-per second increment in intensity in men and women reduced the odds for antihypertensive drug use by 54% and 46%, respectively, reduced the odds for LDL-cholesterollowering medication use by 55% and 48%, respectively, and reduced the odds for antidiabetic medication use by 50% and 75%, respectively"
Vigorous Exercise and Diabetic, Hypertensive, and Hypercholesterolemia Medication Use
Paul T. Williams and Barry Franklin "Compared with ≤ 16 km/wk (guideline levels), the odds in men and women who ran > 64 km/wk were, respectively, 69% and 55% lower for antidiabetic, 48% and 52% lower for antihypertension, and 64% and 51% lower for LDL-Clowering medication use. "
If you want to reap the rewards of heart health, you have to exercise long (8+ aerobic hours per week) and with intensity.
Another post with lack of insight and knowledge by p90x4lifewaswrong. Why should I have expected anything less? It must be his blood glucose levels crashing again.
""Almond Flour" LOL "
Really? That makes you laugh out loud? Your delirium must be worse than even I suspected. I doubt you even make your food -- instead eating processed food like no fat cheese and low fat yogurt.
p90x4lifewas....has 4 times the physique you'll have. He's a better athlete then you'll ever be. He has FAR lower bodyfat that you do, and is in better overall health you are. You got your weight within at least a " target range " of not being obese anymore. But if you want to get fit and healthy and really lean out and move forward from here on out,...you'd switch your diet to something better then what you're doing. Have a day of nothing but fruit and vegetables and reboot your intellect.
I just saw someone's post on his channel...she was writing how she's down 7 lbs and she'd only been on Atkins for 5 days. I can only hope people realize the damage they are doing to their bodies on a low carb diet.
Yeah that's the big hook with Low Carb. People are looking for that fast reduction on the scale. Everytime I tried Low Carb you'd get that huge water loss. When you remove carbs from the diet, it works like a diuretic. Unfortunately you lose a lot of needed minerals with that huge water loss. If you've been lifting hard, and you DON'T supplement to make up for the large mineral loss, you will be sore beyond your wildest dreams. NOT GOOD!!
You're so full of nonsense Bowulf. We tell the truth about low carb here...and you don't like it. That's why this video is here after all. I see you blocked me from your videos...and I have yet to leave one comment on them. You know why? They're filled with misconceptions, half truths, and myths. It wouldn't be worth the time. Brushfour is a former pro boxer and could knock you out before you could say "carbs are bad"
Actually Steve..do NOT block this guy. It's fun shooting down his posts.
You're SO far behind the curve I don't know where to begin. Listen close: It's NOT duration, it's intensity that cardio is built upon. I've done more distance road work then you've ever done in your lifetime. If I had my way, I try to get it down to 24 minutes ONCE a week if I can. You're SO far behind the learning curve guy. I'm sorry it's where you're at...but it's where you're at. You lost the debate here...you just don't know enough.
"Paul Williams, scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
"The more miles people run, the less likely they are to develop heart disease or have strokes. The health improvements continue up to about 50 miles a week of running, roughly eight hours."
"The health improvements don't just apply to runners - any sort of regular aerobic activity helps, and the more hours people put in, the more benefits they'll see, Williams said."
@brushfour I just read this goofball's blog. He said he does "Ten Minute Trainer" with Tony Horton. He is even WORSE and more misinformed of an athlete than I first thought.
Are you serious? This guy does the " Ten Minute Trainer?" No wonder he doesn't know shit. If you want to know about the benefits of running,...please see Dr. Kenneth Cooper. " Father of Aerobics," book on " Running," Director of the Cooper Clinic for Aerobic Research in Dallas and Houston. He'll inform you, Paul Williams,..and anyone else on running. Dr. Cooper also says " NO " to low carb dieting. Start there Bowulf. You're way over your head.
LOL There's more...here's a quote from his blog."Lately, I have been alternating between Jillian Michaels Shred and a 60-minute core workout. I may also add 10 minute Trainer from Tony Horton as well into the mix to boost the cardio part of the other videos. 34 extra minutes is doable per day, but 60 is not."
He relies on Jillian Michaels and The 10 Minute Trainer for his workouts...no wonder he's so confused and out of shape.
You can't be serious. C'mon. You CAN'T be serious. I'm here on a discussion board with a guy that follows Jillian Michaels? That's it,..that does it. I'm not talking to Bowulf anymore. LOL..he blocked me from his "fitness" site as well. I know he knows very little...I had NO idea that's where he was at. Core training and all the rest..beautiful...he's an idiot. Bowulf..post away. You will NEVER get a response from me again. p90x4...can you at least give me the links to these particular vids?
On his channel page, he has a link to his website-network-admindotnet. Scroll down to an article called "What are my exercise goals for the first few months". He wrote it last month
Not defending or attacking the Atkins diet, but I have seen studies done where test subjects were devided up into two groups. Both groups would consume low diets consisting of only 500 calories. One group would have all their calories come from protein, and the other would have their calories come from a mix of carbs and protein. At the end of the study, they discovered that the people who had the mixture of carbs and protein lost muscle mass. The ones who only consumed protein didn't.
More garbage.. He was the same guy that said no fruit or potatoes, but yet you advocate those same fruit over and over. Make up your mind. No wonder you have such problems - you have dis-associative exercise personality disorder...
As for my "exercise confused past", I have just designed an HIT program I will be undertaking the next 3 months. I've been training volume for a while, but I understand the benefits of rest, recovery etc. whereas you do NOT. My new program will add more thickness to my upper body, legs and hips on top of a ALREADY ripped physique than anything bowulf can design.
I guess if you mean by subpar runner that one who beats 86% of all runners in half marathon. Then sure I'll take that nomenclature. However, most people would see that as a successful runner. Heck check Athlinks for veracity.
The only thing outdated are these responses as they are based in criticisms that have been proven wrong over and over again in multiple studies. However, some people love their ignorance so much they refuse to see the truth even when it smacks them in the face.
LOL No one's refusing to see the truth. We're concerned for you bowulf. The long-term effects of low carb are WELL documented, including links to cancers, kidney failure etc. You're the reason Steve has the Body Performance channel;this channel was created to dispel myths and misinformation from fads. He created this to protect people from misinformed fad-dieters like you.
If you would actually watch and listen to the video instead of reacting with your drama queen angst, you might actually learn something as I dispel all the myths and misconceptions you just brought up. Then again it might get in the way of your nuthugging...
LOL..he couldn't refute it. He tried to make a claim that had no legs. Bowulf is a sub par runner....his diet is the main reason. He tries to fuel his workouts with very inefficient fuel. I would encourage and and ALL of you to NOT listen to this guy. Most of you have good common sense and are a bit more studied then this guy is. He's trying to sell and outdated and VERY unhealthy approach to weight loss.
I just watched this clown's latest video. The only question is: Where can I get that time back? LOL Not only is he a shitty runner, but I could tell from his forearm development the type of strength this moron has. His forearms are comparable to that of a young girl's. He suggests we all follow along on his low carb fad craze, but why should we when we know better? I assume he is a big fan of Mark Sisson as well.
Another nuthugging, drama queen with low carb angst... Big surprise....
Big words for someone with zero credibility whatsoever, was I using too many big words that you couldn't understand. Maybe I'll talk slower next time for my more dim-witted watchers.
@bowulf I've watched your vids. You're beyond stupid and are NOT a good athlete by any means. Folks, if you want anymore reason NOT to go low carb, just check out bowulf's channel.
Another ignorant person with his head buried in the sand... What a surprise to be found here! As for my athlete status, I'll let my finish times speak for themselves.
All you need to do is look at my profile picture. I know you're jealous. You want the traps, upper chest, and biceps that I have...but guess what? you ain't ever going to get it. Why? You need to lift with intensity. Weightlifitng is anaerobic (in other words it burns SUGAR) No ignorance here. Your body runs on sugar...and you're neglecting it of what it wants! Read a Biology book for God's sake. You've allowed fad to interfere with logic. Come back to us...
A profile pic grabbed from anywhere... Wow I can feel my jealousy burning. You were confused about P90x and now you are confused about low carb. As Jim Nabors would say, "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!"
Weightlifting requires ATP molecules, and it doesn't care what provides them. "Your body runs on sugar..." Really because mine has been running well on fat as its primary fuel source for 6 years.
As for jealousy, I'd at least have know you to be jealous of you.
You want to repeat the part about where and how your body produces ATP...and how " it doesn't care where it get it from." Please repeat that bit of knowledge if you could. I'd like to see you make an ass out of yourself twice in one hour.
If you would have lost all fat...slowly...in a proper way...you would not have loose skin. Loose skin is the result of losing large amounts of muscle mass.
Show me a single other person with 200 pounds lost with less loose skin without surgery and you might have a point... Until then, you are grasping at straws.
As far as running,....that would be interval wind sprints. Don't bother with them. Bowulf...you don't have the power for acceleration you need to do them well. You won't recuperate well afterwards either. Keep to your jogging, that's the best you can hope for.
I'll agree with ONE point you made. When you said you lost lean mass but NO muscle. You most certainly lost a certain amount of brain tissue. You might be able to " train " it back....but that might require 250-300 grams of carboyhydrates per day. Seeing as you won't do that....you're stuck in Stupidville.
You think you lost 211 lbs and lost NO muscle in the process. Keep talking. You lost and enormous amount of muscle and it shows. You're bodyfat isn't super high,...but it's high relative to your weight and you're supposed expertise as a dieter. You're no one to guide anyone. You're misleading with ignorance.
You are a guy with low carb drama queen angst, and you have zero credentials to make recommendations to anybody. You couldn't even make follow the simplest and easiest of diets. The diet proven most successful in multiple studies. That diet is low carb.
I've been around this think long enough I can spot bodyfat percentages within a percentage point or two very well. Most bodybuilders can. LOL....that's when I knew you were full of shit.
Sorry you've been stomped on this issue on the BodyPerformance Channel. Over on your site you're the Captain! Over here you're nothing but a lonely sailor. This this Body PERFORMANCE. NOT Body Under-Performance. Why don't you look for the Body Under-Performance Channel where you'll be treated like a King and wise old professor at the same time. You can amaze all at Body Under-Performance. Even the guy that runs this site..who by the way knows 40 fold what you'll ever know, has ALSO shot you down.
You're a walking billboard for the horrors of Low CARB. You look like a zombie with a slight beer gut. Sorry to be so direct but it's true. You haven't seen your adominal muscle....ever. You don't believe me...or Steve...go over on Vince Del Monte's site with all the male fitness model competitors. Lecture them about low carb. Tell them what you " know." You'll be laughed right off the channel.
Low carb dieting.....diet choice of the lame. I can't imagine being lame enough to let my bodyfat get to where you let yours get to. 46%. Do you know how lame you have to be to even let your bodyfat approach 30%?? If you know how to READ and interpret labels goofball.....and I kind of get the sense you don't....they'll tell you all you need to know. WAKE UP!!
You failed when you chose Low Carb. You failed when you tried to sell it on this bodybuilding web channel. You're so scared of anyone confronting you on your poor science and your physique that you BLOCK anyone from your channel who disagrees. I've been handing you your ass over here and it's been fun. You're an easy target. You know very little and your physique is a testament to everything you fail to understand.
LOL....Charles Poloquin has been slammed and debunked by every qualified coach and sports organization across the country. Many of his former athletes have referred to him as a " Quack." His training methods are NOT sought after. He tried to lend his " expertise " the Mixed Martial Art community....and from there he was sent packing. Charles Poliquin is a terrible example...or actually a GOOD example of someone to not tie you horse to. He fucked up some very good athletes.
Let's see someone who actually trains Olympic athletes or some idiot who can't even read the book he's has some drama queen angst beef. What credentials do you have? NONE.
Forget about the tape or "held' the body impetence montior. No wonder your dilluted about your 11% bodyfat. Take a DEXA SCAN. Do a hydrostatic measurement. Do several of them over several months. I have. You'll be stunned at how difficult it is to put on bodyfat and how easy it is to LOSE lean muscle while dieting; Low Carb being the diet that robs lean muscle more then any other except the cabbage diet or the jelly bean diet or other shit diets like that. You don't know you're body comp fool.
If you EVER switched your diet, you would have an increase in energy and in your mood. You're athletic performance would go up and you would be more rested between workouts. You would put on muscle mass and your Basal Metabolic Rate would rise. You would then burn more calories and fat while you exercised. You would feel an increase in strength and in muscle contraction because you would now be using a better and more natural source (carbohydrate-glycogen)..to produce ATP for activity. WAKE UP!!
When I did Low Carb,....I was also " skinny fat." I had lost muscle and water....like you did, yet maintained a surprisingly high amount of fat in relation to that. I looked sort of pekid....like you do. If I " failed " and Low Carb...and did not, ..they you're FAILING TOO. Why would that be?
Sorry...no failure here. LOL...Low Carb is the big failure....and you follow it. You've hitched yourself to a falling star and want others to do the same. I've seen you vids and dude....YOU ARE about 18% bodyfat...AT BEST. You could be 20%. You're in a condition known as " skinny fat." You're not carrying that much muscle, and your workout and diet,..yet for some reason you're carrying quite a bit of fat IN RELATIONSHIP to the amount of muscle mass. YOU ARE " skinny fat." And you're diluted.
I remember that crappy taste in your mouth when you'd go over your carb limit. (Terrible). I remember always dreaming of chocolate chip muffins....and never being able to have one. What an awful way to go though life. And what was the sacrifice for?? I'm lean, strong and cut...and I sacrifice very little. I'm leaner (by FAR) then any of those lazy-hazy low carb days and look and feel better in the process. I feel sorry for you Bowulf, I really do.
Atkins is NOT a sustainable diet. The food choices are low and the uncomfortablity is high and the results are not great. Keto breath wlll lose your friends in time. Most people who continue on with Low Carb become depressed, cranky,...and less focused. The sit around more. What a horrible choice for a lifestyle. Come back to us Bowulf. Rejoin the world and partake of all the great foods that's out there. Your physique will improve and you won't look like a vampire.....anymore.
I've experienced this first hand Mr. CCLL. Your understanding of the systems of the body is not good enough to even have an intelligent conversation. I wish I never told you to visit the American Heart Association website,..because you don't understand it anyway. Most of the colorful fruits...in any reasonble volume..ARE NOT O.K. on Atkins. I did this stupid friggin' diet for 18 months. I know exactly what you can and cannot do and it what volume. Everyone goes ON and OFF....ON and OFF Atkins.
"Most of the colorful fruits...in any reasonble volume..ARE NOT O.K. on Atkins. I did this stupid friggin' diet for 18 months. I know exactly what you can and cannot do and it what volume."
Apparently not. You don't even know what your CCLL was. You think it has something to do with ketosis. I guess reasonable volumes of Strawberries is more than a pint per day for those on 20g or less. Heck you don't even know how to count your carbs.
Actually it's simple to count. You just have to read the side of the package. You should try it sometime. You get to that stupid and unneeded carb limit so fast it's not even funny. You get weak, you get pekid looking and boy do you retain fat. You're a PERFECT example of this. You're preaching diet and that idiot Charles Poloquin with a roll of fat around your waist. You're bodyfat many not even be UNDER 20%. You don't know anything.
Wrong otherwise you would know the right answer. Remember the whole almonds question just a few almonds and it is 18g... Few almonds like 9 oz aka a whole can of almonds. It's the net carbs that you count MORON.
Every...every...every study, and reputable coach, fitness expert, and trainer will tell you that there is NO equal replace for for carbohyrate as a producer of ATP for athletic performance. You would get your ass kicked in a rowing competition. You would peform significantly less then your ability on the football field...especially over subsequent days of practice and game play. You would NOT be able to hit nor maintain the same levels of intensity as an equal athlete doing the same activity.
I have pointed to other trainers like the United States Olympic Strength Coach Charles Poliquin who advocates a low carb approach for most of his clients. You fail again.
Charles Poliquin
"There are some many advantages to low carb nutrition:
Advantages
It promotes muscle gains while reducing fat stores
Poliquin Performance was founded in Phoenix, Arizona in 2001 by Coach Charles Poliquin. Hailed as one of the world's premier strength coaches, Coach Poliquin has successfully trained professional athletes and Olympians worldwide. His training methods and nutritional philosophies quickly became highly sought after in the industry and it became our goal to improve the level of sports performance throughout the world by developing a higher quality strength coach.
YOU ARE TRULY MIND-NUMB. NO ONE is envious of you Bowulf. You're on your own. No one has " low carb envy." We all instead have " low carb pity." The ADA..the American Diabetes Association and ALL major health organization recommend...( for the 15th time ) A BALANCED DIET from ALL major food groups and DO NOT recommend a Low Carb Approach to either treating..or preventing diabletes. What is wrong with you? Will you have a banana? Have and apple and a banana...and don't come back until you do.
I suggest NO ONE re-read Dr. Atkins book because it's a waste of a fine afternoon. Everyone fails at this diet....because the diet is a failure. People don't fail the diet....the diet fails them. You're on a bodybuilding channel trying to sell Low Carb to people who know better. LOL....I just read the ADA website for the 4th time. You're not getting enough carbs to your brain. Loss of concentration and memory loss is part of Low Carb...you're a perfect example of that. WAKE UP!
Sorry, you fail again. You couldn't do it right, and now blame others for your failure. Your limited intellect (apparent by the inability to read) leaves you with the inability to understand others who do follow the diet correctly might actually succeed where you have simply failed.
You can't even work up the energy to make your own videos..
Use your heads please. See these organizations first. Do not listen to the ACBW...." The American College of Bo-Wulf." He never studied this in College.
Wow talk about the low carb and success envy in you... You have an exceptional amount of jealousy for someone. It's all right. I understand you failed at the diet, and now want to blame others for your own failure.
Go to the American Heart Association Website. They make their recommended diet VERY clear so there is no misunderstanding. Bowulf has tried to rewrite that for you as he understands it. Bowulf understands very little and is handing out very bad advice to the uninitiated. Go to the American Diabetic Association Website. They will list thier OFFICIAL ADA diet right there. They make it VERY clear so there is NO misunderstanding. The ACSM..the American College of Sports Medicine has the same thing.
AHA recommends eliminating 75% of a person's refined sugars.
As for the ADA:
"Every year the American Diabetes Associations revises and updates its Clinical Practice Recommendations, a publication upon which many doctors and medical caregivers depend as a primary source of diabetes treatment information.
The current edition reaffirms the ADA's landmark decision in 2008 to accept low carbohydrate diets"
Maybe you should write to the ADA to reverse their decision for 2011...
Maybe you should write to the ADA and tell them everything you understand. Then they'll write back and correct you so you'll no longer be confused. Make sure you have some Oatmeal and protein on that day---SO---YOU---CAN---MORE--CLEAR-LY---UN--DER--STAND---WHAAAAAT---THEY---AAARRRREE---TRY-ING--TOOOOOO---COMMUNICATE---TO------YOU-----. I slowed that down for ya so you get grip on it.
If you've ever been to the supermarket and seen someone pushing a cart FULL of healthy vegetables, fruit and natural food, more likely then not the person pushing the cart is going to look good and be lean and trim. If they're an athlete as well........boy you can count on it. DO THAT! That's the road for success. NOT figuring out a completely unneeded and unhealthy CCLL number that you must worry about or else you fall out of Ketosis. DO you really want to be in a state of Ketosis?
Go to ANY farmers market. See all the grains and colorful vegetables and fruits...Yeah,...that's the stuff of life. It's full of carbs and healthy fats and protein that will energize your workouts, improve and maintain your health, and help you repair muscles after hard workouts. You'll also look better; hair, skin, nails, etc, because these foods are SO rich in nutrients. And no matter what a low carb dieter tells you, supplements are NO SUBSITUTE for vitamins and minerals you get from FOOD.
EVERY MAJOR Health Organization in the United States recommends people NOT do low carb. They instead recommend a natural healthy diet from all major food groups. For optimum health they suggest 4-5 servings a day of fruits and vegetables. They suggest a certain portion of healthy Omega-3 rich fats. They recommend high fiber foods, whole grains, breads and brown rice. Have 2 apples a day if you can. They're better for you then you realize. They recommend lean dairy and legumes of all sorts.
There are many posts on this channel about HIIT cardio. That's = " HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING." If you're on LOW CARB,...and you think you're going to perform well there......You're in for a big suprise. I've did 18 months on LOW CARB. I regret it. At that time, TRAINING was my strong point, DIETING some what less so. Thankfully I learned and studied how to truly get lean though healthy, natural dieting.
Do NOT go back to this LOW CARB cult to try to lose weight.
Here's a short list of secondary health problems that can be brought on by low carb dieting watching and believing in a stupid CCLL number: Increased Risk of some Cancers, Increased Calcium excretion resulting in increased risk of Osteoporosis, Increased Hypoglycemia, Decreased Serum Glucose levels, Decreased Endurance, and a higher trend over time towards Diabetes.
You don't even know what it is how would you be able to explain the dangers associated with it. I had to tell you what it was.
As for Diabetes, that's funny the world's preeminent diabetes educator Richard Bernstein recommends low carb lifestyle both preemptively to prevent and as an reaction to diabetes.
NO college or professional sports team will recommend their athletes employ a low carb diet. They will instead warn their athletes to stay away from low carb dieting. Low Carb dieting can also be very dangerous for athletes that perform in intense sports specifically. Wrestling, Boxing, Football. The loss of vitamins, minerals, and phyotochemicals is acute. You will be very sore and tired and not recuperate properly between workouts. It will HURT your performance on the field.
An extended Low Carb diet will put your body in a state of Glyogen Depletion. All you guys wanting to do high rep, heavy poundages..of all lifts,...powercleans and for Gods sake HIIT cardio, you will collaspe on the machine from exhaustion under LOW CARB. Your body CANNOT oxidize fatty acids or amino acids from protein rapildly enough to meet the demands of your sport. In short, you'll get your ass kicked by a comparable athlete next to you who is fully carb and glycogen loaded.
"An extended Low Carb diet will put your body in a state of Glyogen Depletion."
There was a collective Duh heard round the world...
"owercleans and for Gods sake HIIT cardio, you will collaspe on the machine from exhaustion under LOW CARB. "
You apparently have buried yourself completely in the sand as I have done that since starting the Atkins. I laugh at how you totally ignored the study that proves athletic performance is the same on ketogenic diets with trained athletes.
Low Carb goofballs suggest that there is this " induction phase,"..kind of like the Army, that your body must go though. I had to consume 30 lousy grams of carbs per day. Then...luck me, got to consume 50 grams a day and had to worry constantly about falling out of Ketosis. You see everyone......YOU DON'T SUPPOSED TO BE IN A STATE OF PROLONGED KETOSIS. This is VERY hard on your body and not good for the functioning of your body...and terrible for athletic performance.
TankTysonFan 4 weeks ago
Even in your opening statement of calories per fat and carb, you state that removing anything would lower the calorie intake, correct? The only problem w/ this logic, is that carbs are replaced w/ a higher fat / protien intake. By your own calculations, we would surely be doubling our calorie intake and still losing weight. The lack of high-end non fiberous carbs in the system is the reason for the weight loss. Cleaner fuel for your engine (protien) is much more healthier than low octane (carbs)

You can lose fat even while eating bananas, rice, or potatoes. The so-called high-carb fattening foods.

Thanks.
Doberman4488 1 year ago
@Doberman4488 Eating whole grains and brown rice is not a low carb diet. You're losing weight because overall you're eating less calories. Leaner meats will also help.
BodyPerformanceTV 1 year ago
@BodyPerformanceTV Steve. I guess you are right. I am not really on a low carb. I guess what i was asking is: I love eating meats and I like whole grain carbs, beans etc. I am still consuming the same bulk of food (loosing weight) but is this combination just less calories because of the kind of foods I am eating. why is this combo working. I am also weight lifting and doing cardio 4 times a week.
Doberman4488 1 year ago
@Doberman4488 THAT will help too! Keep up the good work.

In the long run a low carb way of living will be more healthy for you, then living on a carb oriented food intake. Its not about the amount of calories its more about what the ingredients does to your system.

when you go low carb increase your fat intake(it does not cause heart disease!)
whatever you do dont go low calorie.
topheramazz 1 year ago
@topheramazz I don't understand the comment you put about low carb increse your fat intake.... ?
justlegal21 1 year ago
@justlegal21
if your going to cut carbs then increase fat to get enough calories. low calorie diets reduce energy an can negatively effect metabolism.
saturated fat and cholesterol are very good for you despite the conventional claims otherwise...
topheramazz 1 year ago
@topheramazz ok? Sorry I would never cut carbs, and if what you say is true then heart disease would not be so high up. Also I don't see how increasing fat intake on a low carb diet would help, the only thing you should actually increase on a low carb diet is protein, not fat. Your body will use your protein for glucose when carbohydrates are missing. Fat cannot be converted to glucose, and saturated fat is very hard for the body to process, so I'm sorry but idk where you got that from.
justlegal21 1 year ago
@justlegal21 heart disease is not as high in countries and in cultures who dont eat as many carbohydrates. hormones like leptin and insulin are the real factors in fatloss.protein can be converted to glucose so their is no need for carbohydrate for that purpose but you forgot about ketones.the body and brain run optimally on ketones. dont get your diet info from a dietition. try a clinical nutritionist or do your own research. good luck.
topheramazz 1 year ago
@topheramazz ok? are you saying dietitians are wrong and people who search on Google are right? please... and I know what ketone bodies are and their not healthy if they accumulate, even if you develop ketosis they cannot give you enough energy to even keep you alive, and can cause many symptoms. Your brain uses carbohydrates for energy, not fat. Also just cause protein is converted to glucose doesn't mean you dont need carbs. Remember you need protein for other important things, not glucose.
justlegal21 1 year ago
@justlegal21
beleive whatever you want.the information is out there. good luck.
topheramazz 1 year ago
@topheramazz I believe in real education, not a cult telling people doctors and registered dietitians are wrong, I'm studying nutrition so I don't need to do research, I learn facts, but same to you, believe what you will. Good luck

@justlegal21
that was cute...thanks :)
topheramazz 1 year ago
@justlegal21 Keep up with your education. It was great reading your posts. You're one of the few people on here that knows what the hell they're talking about. People who lack real knowledge have nothing left but attack doctors and registered dieticians.
brushfour44 1 year ago
@justlegal21
as long as you eat enough protein on a lower carb diet you wont lose muscle mass.
low carb would be between 20 grams - 50 grams of carbs(from vegetables) daily for fatloss. increase cabs as neede for exercise intensity and post workout recovery. don't exceed 300 grams of carbs a day unless your extreamly physically active.
topheramazz 1 year ago
@topheramazz You can and will lose muscle mass on low carb no matter how much protein you consume. The reason you lose muscle on low carb is because of the lack of carbs. Protein will not protect you from that.
brushfour44 1 year ago
@brushfour44
gluconeogenesis(in the liver) converts some of protein/ fat into glucose. if you don't eat enough protien muscle won't be spared.didn't say NO carb but LOW carb.seems that every time someone says "LOW CARB" everyone freaks , thinks it's NO CARB...why?humans aren't predominantly by nature sugar burners,we are fat burners. biology has proved this...get with it man.this isn't religion, u must have facts...
50-100 g. daily is all you need unless you are an elite/professional athlete
topheramazz 1 year ago
@topheramazz This is regarding another comment u put on another vid, you're wrong about gluconeogenesis, it doesn't convert fat into glucose, only protein, so if you believe that you're wrong. also you said our brain uses fat for energy, you're wrong again. we use carbohydrates for energy. I'd like to see where you r getting your "facts" from.
justlegal21 1 year ago
@justlegal21 Protein converts moreso than fat (excess fat will convert though).the brain uses some fat for energy( not exclusively though) Look up anything by a Reputable CCN, the science is clear and has been peer reviewed. great books with alot of info- "Good Calories Bad Calories"-By Gary Taubes or" How to eat move and be healthy" By Paul Chek or "primal Body Primal Mind" by Nora T. Gedgaudas. good luck.
topheramazz 1 year ago
@topheramazz & no, Fat has nothing to do with gluconeogenesis, you should really take a real nutrition course. Fat can't be converted to glucose to any extent, it's only made into ketone bodies, not glucose, so you can stop believing that. The brain, yea is made of mostly fat and cholesterol, that doesn't mean you can just eat fat and clog ur arteries with cholesterol, carbohydrates are the brain's main fuel source and protein is needed for other important things, not glucose.
justlegal21 1 year ago
@justlegal21 the body can convert 100% carbs,60% prot. and 10% fat into glucose.
the brain gets it's energy from ketones when insuffient glucose is available.after blood glucose is lowered for 3 days the brain gets 30% of it's energy from ketone bodies.@ 40 days this goes up to 70%. in time the brain reduces it's glucose requirements from 120g to 40g daily. the brain and heart operate 25% more effiently using ketones as a sourse of energy
topheramazz 1 year ago
@topheramazz You still don't get it, ketone bodies do give some energy when you're starving, but is not enough to even keep u alive, which is why even a fat person who is starving will die before we uses his his fat. The brain doesn't prefer to use ketones please stop talking nonsense. You won't convince me cus I know what I'm studying. And stop blaming carbohydrates I've eaten them all my life and I'm in great shape, so u can drop that theory. Go to school and learn facts.
justlegal21 1 year ago
@justlegal21- your brain actually prefers to be fueled by ketones,it does require glucose also but glucose can be easily converted from excess protein if needed or dietary fat. some evolutionary biologists accept(depending on evidence) that dietary fat is what spured brain evolution.
topheramazz 1 year ago
@topheramazz " Your brain actually prefers to be fueled by KETONES." NO...IT...DOES....NOT.
brushfour44 1 year ago
Sorry to gang up topher, but that is also correct. Our brains run on sugar,..(carbohydrates). And yes I know that Low carb does not mean NO carb. It means about 30-60 grams of carbs each day. Did low carb for about 14 months in total. Kept it to 50 g per day, but went off the diet every 2 weeks or so and had even more carbs. Nevertheless, I lost 45 lbs. in total and I by my waist/scale measurements, I believe that about 40% of it was muscle loss. You need to carbohydrate present to burn fat.
brushfour44 1 year ago
@brushfour44- i dont mind it. I never said our brains run exclusively on fat alone. dont forget though that our brain is 60% fat.
answer me this:
1. does sat. fat and cholesterol consumption contribute heavily to heart disease?
2.are grains healthy, should they be the muscles predominant fuel?
3. is weight gain(for most people) predominantly a matter of +caloric intake?
no seriously....i want to know who im dealing with here.
topheramazz 1 year ago
@topheramazz Well in many respects the jury is still out on saturated fats. In terms of weight-gain, the conversion time for saturated fat is relatively short. The calories from saturated fat will more likely be deposited on your body as fat. Saturated fat has been shown to reduce insulin sensitvity and increase inflamation. No debate there. It's the overall effect saturated fat has on BAD cholesterol is where there is a lot of discussion.
brushfour44 1 year ago
Fat replacement is the main focus right now. Replacing a certain amount of saturated fat with Polyunsaturated or Monounsaturated fats. Simply reducing Saturated fat and replacing it with carbohydrate....but particularly REFINED carbodydrates, does not improve and in fact can worsen cholesterol ratios and increase triglycerides. Please stop listening to Gary Taubes.
brushfour44 1 year ago
@topheramazz There is a multitude of reasons people gain weight. The main driver in weight gain is really related (in my opinion) to a decrease in caloric burn through an increase in inactivity. It's more related to what people are NOT doing then what they're eating. No one puts a lot of weight on over night or in a weeks time. Creeping obesity is the result of a consistant pattern of behavior over an extended period of time. Any reputable doctor or dietician will tell you that.
brushfour44 1 year ago
@brushfour44
well i guess theres nothing more to say.
topheramazz 1 year ago
@topheramazz YES...whole grains are healthy. And by that I mean " WHOLE" grains. Not refined carbohydrates and processed food trying to pass itself off as whole grain. Your muscles will use the energy (ATP) from food as it's fuel source. That question alone along with some of the books you recommend already tells me who I'm dealing with. Good luck.
brushfour44 1 year ago
@brushfour44 for most people whole grains are a problem, u ever heard of gluten intolerance, leaky gut syndrome, lectins or phytates? they can also inhibit mineral absorbtion. consumption of grains(over time) can destroy the fat absorbing lactaels in the villi of duodenum. if you "must" eat grains, try fermenting or soaking them overnight to neutralize some phytates.sprouted grains are a good choice also.
topheramazz 1 year ago
"For MOST people grains are a problem." Are you kidding? NO topher...for very very few people grains are a problem. An extreme minority of people have gluten intolerance. You're focused on such the extreme edges of things so much that you're not seeing the main event. And boy are you wrong about ketones and gluconeogenensis. Evolutionary biologists theorize that the consumption of Omega-3 fats spurred brain evolution. It's a theory...and it has nothing to do with what we're talking about.
brushfour44 1 year ago
The reason I have sprouted grain bread,..is because it's not made from flour and is generally a bit more filling in the stomach so I'll consume less calories over the course of the day. You know NOTHING about whole grains and you're reading a lot of nonsense out of the Gary Taubes book or some other. Stop reading Gary Taubes and pick up books by more qualified people.

hey, im all for more knowledge and info. please send me some book names, authors, references, articles etc. im always searching for more info on topics of nutrition, health and fitness. if whatever you do subjectively works for u or your clients, then do it. there isn't one way for everyone in their health/fitness journey. thanks :)
topheramazz 1 year ago

His bodyfat is well over 22% now.
brushfour 1 year ago
I looked at his video and pictures. Bowulf does NOT have loose skin. He has HIGH bodyfat, against reduced lean muscle mass. He has EXACTLY the problem I had when I did low carb. Reduced lean muscle mass against a strangely high bodyfat considering all the exercise. The reason they look like Kemo patients is because you have muscles in your face, head and neck that are also reduced on top of the effect low carb has on your skin. This is odd, this guy could turn THIS WHOLE THING around in 6 weeks.
brushfour 1 year ago
"A 60 minute core" workout is useless. Bowulf, that core workout is not going to allow you to see your abdominal muscles. You need to lower your body fat percentage by making a SLIGHT cut to your daily caloric intake, eating more natural carbs, starting a resistance training program, and adding in more intense cardiovascular exercises. Walking also helps burn up extra calories without overtraining you. The "Core" is a Madison Avenue term for the spinal erectors, abdominal, and hips muscles.
p90x4lifewaswrong 1 year ago
You have no clue what my body fat is, and perhaps if you would stop nut hugging others, you might actually learn something.
bowulf 1 year ago
Why is it that most low carb/Atkin's diet users look like cancer patients going thru Kemo ? I've been looking around and you all look kind of weak. If you're on low carb diets how do you properly do cardio or weight lifting? Answer: you don't !
TheAtomicDon 1 year ago
"how do you properly do cardio or weight lifting? "
I lift three times a week and can bench my body weight a complete set. I also run on average 20-45 miles per week depending what week of marathon training it is. My best half marathon time is 1:42:00 (7:45 pace), which beat over 3/4ths the race field of over 1500 runners. My full marathon time is just over 4 hours well under the median time for each marathon. I believe my results speak for themselves.
bowulf 1 year ago
But your body doesn't.
TheAtomicDon 1 year ago
What the heck does that mean?
My body looks fine, and I'll take your comments with a grain of salt for someone with no videos. The performance of my body speaks for its ability, and as for how it looks, beauty is in eye of the beholder. Frankly, your opinion means nothing.
bowulf 1 year ago
You're right. You did lose 200 lbs. Congratulations.
TheAtomicDon 1 year ago
@TheAtomicDon You're correct about the low carb. LOL Brushfour is done talking to Bowulf as he found out his workout is "Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred" and "10 Minute Trainer" I remember Brushfour once told me in the Military Two Mile Run he tested out UNDER 9 minutes! Brushfour is in better shape than this guy, I am in better shape than this guy, and so are you!

bowulf 1 year ago
@bowulf haa! ignorance, look who's talking mr. block people who know more than you, why don't you accept the fact that you r wrong and that the only reason your diet works is because people are eating less, not because is healthy. But then again, I'm ignorant, yet I know more about nutrition than you ever will, I really hope your diet never does you harm, but you goint the wrong way
justlegal21 1 year ago
@bowulf bowolf you don't know anything about nutrition, atkins diet is not healthy and does NOT burn fat if that's what u think, the only reason is working is cus people end up eating almost 45% less. learn something instead of giving more people heart problems
justlegal21 1 year ago
@bowulf
cardio that long and intense will strip you of youf muscle. try high intensity interval sprints.

Hmmm sounds like marathon training as opposed to HIIT-alone gives the best chance to avert heart risk factors and diabetes.

Have a day of nothing but fruit and vegetables and reboot your intellect.
brushfour 1 year ago
I just saw someone's post on his channel...she was writing how she's down 7 lbs and she'd only been on Atkins for 5 days. I can only hope people realize the damage they are doing to their bodies on a low carb diet.
p90x4lifewaswrong 1 year ago
Yeah that's the big hook with Low Carb. People are looking for that fast reduction on the scale. Everytime I tried Low Carb you'd get that huge water loss. When you remove carbs from the diet, it works like a diuretic. Unfortunately you lose a lot of needed minerals with that huge water loss. If you've been lifting hard, and you DON'T supplement to make up for the large mineral loss, you will be sore beyond your wildest dreams. NOT GOOD!!
brushfour 1 year ago
Just lifted two days ago, and I feel great. Keep living in the sand and clinging like heck to proven wrong beliefs...

More talk from a guy who can't do cardio more than 2 days a week or longer than 30 minutes...
bowulf 1 year ago
You're SO far behind the curve I don't know where to begin. Listen close: It's NOT duration, it's intensity that cardio is built upon. I've done more distance road work then you've ever done in your lifetime. If I had my way, I try to get it down to 24 minutes ONCE a week if I can. You're SO far behind the learning curve guy. I'm sorry it's where you're at...but it's where you're at. You lost the debate here...you just don't know enough.

Ahh, so misinformed...
National Runner's Health Study
"Paul Williams, scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
"The more miles people run, the less likely they are to develop heart disease or have strokes. The health improvements continue up to about 50 miles a week of running, roughly eight hours."
"The health improvements don't just apply to runners - any sort of regular aerobic activity helps, and the more hours people put in, the more benefits they'll see, Williams said."
bowulf 1 year ago
@brushfour I just read this goofball's blog. He said he does "Ten Minute Trainer" with Tony Horton. He is even WORSE and more misinformed of an athlete than I first thought.
p90x4lifewaswrong 1 year ago
Are you serious? This guy does the " Ten Minute Trainer?" No wonder he doesn't know shit. If you want to know about the benefits of running,...please see Dr. Kenneth Cooper. " Father of Aerobics," book on " Running," Director of the Cooper Clinic for Aerobic Research in Dallas and Houston. He'll inform you, Paul Williams,..and anyone else on running. Dr. Cooper also says " NO " to low carb dieting. Start there Bowulf. You're way over your head.
brushfour 1 year ago
LOL There's more...here's a quote from his blog."Lately, I have been alternating between Jillian Michaels Shred and a 60-minute core workout. I may also add 10 minute Trainer from Tony Horton as well into the mix to boost the cardio part of the other videos. 34 extra minutes is doable per day, but 60 is not."
He relies on Jillian Michaels and The 10 Minute Trainer for his workouts...no wonder he's so confused and out of shape.
p90x4lifewaswrong 1 year ago
You can't be serious. C'mon. You CAN'T be serious. I'm here on a discussion board with a guy that follows Jillian Michaels? That's it,..that does it. I'm not talking to Bowulf anymore. LOL..he blocked me from his "fitness" site as well. I know he knows very little...I had NO idea that's where he was at. Core training and all the rest..beautiful...he's an idiot. Bowulf..post away.

As for my "exercise confused past", I have just designed an HIT program I will be undertaking the next 3 months. My new program will add more thickness to my upper body, legs and hips on top of a ALREADY ripped physique than anything bowulf can design.
p90x4lifewaswrong 1 year ago
I guess if you mean by subpar runner that one who beats 86% of all runners in half marathon. Then sure I'll take that nomenclature. However, most people would see that as a successful runner. Heck check Athlinks for veracity.
The only thing outdated are these responses as they are based in criticisms that have been proven wrong over and over again in multiple studies. However, some people love their ignorance so much they refuse to see the truth even when it smacks them in the face.
bowulf 1 year ago
LOL No one's refusing to see the truth. We're concerned for you bowulf. The long-term effects of low carb are WELL documented, including links to cancers, kidney failure etc. You're the reason Steve has the Body Performance channel;this channel was created to dispel myths and misinformation from fads. He created this to protect people from misinformed fad-dieters like you.
p90x4lifewaswrong 1 year ago
If you would actually watch and listen to the video instead of reacting with your drama queen angst, you might actually learn something as I dispel all the myths and misconceptions you just brought up. Then again it might get in the way of your nuthugging...
bowulf 1 year ago
LOL..he couldn't refute it. He tried to make a claim that had no legs. Bowulf is a sub par runner....his diet is the main reason. He tries to fuel his workouts with very inefficient fuel. I would encourage and and ALL of you to NOT listen to this guy. Most of you have good common sense and are a bit more studied then this guy is. He's trying to sell and outdated and VERY unhealthy approach to weight loss.
brushfour 1 year ago
I just watched this clown's latest video. The only question is: Where can I get that time back? LOL Not only is he a shitty runner, but I could tell from his forearm development the type of strength this moron has. His forearms are comparable to that of a young girl's. He suggests we all follow along on his low carb fad craze, but why should we when we know better? I assume he is a big fan of Mark Sisson as well.

As far as running,....that would be interval wind sprints. Don't bother with them. Bowulf...you don't have the power for acceleration you need to do them well. You won't recuperate well afterwards either. Keep to your jogging, that's the best you can hope for.
brushfour 1 year ago
Another fail reply...
Staying on a couch in your mom's basement all day does not count as wind sprints.
bowulf 1 year ago
I'll agree with ONE point you made. When you said you lost lean mass but NO muscle. You most certainly lost a certain amount of brain tissue. You might be able to " train " it back....but that might require 250-300 grams of carboyhydrates per day. Seeing as you won't do that....you're stuck in Stupidville.
brushfour 1 year ago
You think you lost 211 lbs and lost NO muscle in the process. Keep talking. You lost and enormous amount of muscle and it shows.

And you know better than I - whatever. I would suggest you seek some psychiatric help because you are becoming delusional.
BTW - how many miles have you ran today? How's that lack of energy working out for you?
bowulf 1 year ago
If you EVER switched your diet, you would have an increase in energy and in your mood. You're athletic performance would go up and you would be more rested between workouts. You would put on muscle mass and your Basal Metabolic Rate would rise. You would then burn more calories and fat while you exercised. You would feel an increase in strength and in muscle contraction because you would now be using a better and more natural source (carbohydrate-glycogen)..to produce ATP for activity. WAKE UP!!
brushfour 1 year ago
When I did Low Carb,....I was also " skinny fat." I had lost muscle and water....like you did, yet maintained a surprisingly high amount of fat in relation to that. I looked sort of pekid....like you do. If I " failed " and Low Carb...and did not, ..they you're FAILING TOO. Why would that be?
brushfour 1 year ago
Sorry...no failure here. LOL...Low Carb is the big failure....and you follow it. You've hitched yourself to a falling star and want others to do the same. I've seen you vids and dude....YOU ARE about 18% bodyfat...AT BEST. You could be 20%. You're in a condition known as " skinny fat." You're not carrying that much muscle, and your workout and diet,..yet for some reason you're carrying quite a bit of fat IN RELATIONSHIP to the amount of muscle mass. YOU ARE " skinny fat." And you're diluted.

Your physique will improve and you won't look like a vampire.....anymore.
brushfour 1 year ago
I've experienced this first hand Mr. CCLL. Your understanding of the systems of the body is not good enough to even have an intelligent conversation. I wish I never told you to visit the American Heart Association website,..because you don't understand it anyway. Most of the colorful fruits...in any reasonble volume..ARE NOT O.K. on Atkins. I did this stupid friggin' diet for 18 months. I know exactly what you can and cannot do and it what volume. Everyone goes ON and OFF....ON and OFF Atkins.
brushfour 1 year ago
"Most of the colorful fruits...in any reasonble volume..ARE NOT O.K. on Atkins. I did this stupid friggin' diet for 18 months. I know exactly what you can and cannot do and it what volume."
Apparently not. You don't even know what your CCLL was. You think it has something to do with ketosis. I guess reasonable volumes of Strawberries is more than a pint per day for those on 20g or less. Heck you don't even know how to count your carbs.
bowulf 1 year ago
Actually it's simple to count. You just have to read the side of the package. You should try it sometime. You get to that stupid and unneeded carb limit so fast it's not even funny. You get weak, you get pekid looking and boy do you retain fat. You're a PERFECT example of this. You're preaching diet and that idiot Charles Poloquin with a roll of fat around your waist. You're bodyfat many not even be UNDER 20%. You don't know anything.
brushfour 1 year ago
"You just have to read the side of the package. "
Wrong otherwise you would know the right answer. Remember the whole almonds question just a few almonds and it is 18g... Few almonds like 9 oz aka a whole can of almonds. It's the net carbs that you count MORON.
Your body fat is probably still in 40% range.

Ahh, the comeback of the weak...
bowulf 1 year ago

YOU ARE TRULY MIND-NUMB. NO ONE is envious of you Bowulf. You're on your own. No one has " low carb envy." We all instead have " low carb pity." The ADA..the American Diabetes Association and ALL major health organization recommend...( for the 15th time ) A BALANCED DIET from ALL major food groups and DO NOT recommend a Low Carb Approach to either treating..or preventing diabletes. What is wrong with you? Will you have a banana? Have and apple and a banana...and don't come back until you do.
brushfour 1 year ago
I suggest NO ONE re-read Dr. Atkins book because it's a waste of a fine afternoon. Everyone fails at this diet....because the diet is a failure. People don't fail the diet....the diet fails them. You're on a bodybuilding channel trying to sell Low Carb to people who know better. LOL....I just read the ADA website for the 4th time. You're not getting enough carbs to your brain. Loss of concentration and memory loss is part of Low Carb...you're a perfect example of that. WAKE UP!
brushfour 1 year ago
Sorry, you fail again. You couldn't do it right, and now blame others for your failure. Your limited intellect (apparent by the inability to read) leaves you with the inability to understand others who do follow the diet correctly might actually succeed where you have simply failed.
You can't even work up the energy to make your own videos..

"NOT figuring out a completely unneeded and unhealthy CCLL number that you must worry about or else you fall out of Ketosis."
Wrong. I suggest you re-read the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution book for what the CCLL actually is because it is apparent you have no clue.

"See all the grains and colorful vegetables and fruits"
Most of which are fine on Atkins Diet.
But where will you find the no-fat cheese or the low fat yogurt in this farmer's marker. Nowhere, but yet you advocate it.

"believing in a stupid CCLL number:"
