Some here have posited that Dr. BMK is lucky to be Telugu, etc. fail to grasp and distinguish between essential characteristics and accidental characteristics. Dr. BMK would have been as great (IMO greatest since Tyagaraja) if he were a Martian. He trained in Carnatic classical music since he was 8 years old and fully utilized his talents. That is his greatness!!
out of this world.I followed his lalitha sahasranama lyric and this is very inspring and very clear and deep voice compared to many singers.22 seconds to long ones indicate age has no bar to speed as well.
South Indian Carnatic music is far superior to North Indian Hindustani. Refer to books. Similarly, Bharatantyam and Kathakali of south are far far superior dance forms than North Indian dance forms.
"Endaro Mahanubhavalu" is one of the greatest kritis of Thyagaraja Swamikal, if not the greatest! Balamurali is one of the greatest if not the greatest living Karnatic musician! No question about it. But my humble opinion is that this particular video is not up to the mark. This must be a "Bad hair" day for BMK!! I had the privilage of listening to his live performance twice in the past. They were nothing like this!!
Rules are a big part of classical music both in India and the West. You would get pilloried for a single false note at the Milan opera house. (Happened even to Pavarotti) Carnatica is actually more forgiving. With any real classical music, only if you know a bit, you can actually enjoy it.
My comment was about this particular piece- this WAS terrible. BMK is a gifted singer- when in form. He is the greatest figure in Carnatic music. Yet, this particular piece sucks to hell.

Good God! What on earth is this? And you people actually like this? Broken notes, showing off, suppression... lost raga, lost scale, pitch.... and he is almost ready to make out with the violinist girl... god I could go on and on... yet... people here think this is a nice rendition... Quelle suprise!
Honestly speaking I don't have keen knowledge of music. But, I believe music has no language .. its a medium of expression. A baby's cry which has no rhythm or tune still carries a message to its mother. Likewise, We loved this, we may not know about any Ragas, but its moving us, it could create vibes in our minds and that's what really matters for us.
South Indian ppl may not like North Indian music, Asians may not like western music and vice versa .. its every individual's personal choice, all that matter is whether particular music is being enjoyed or not .. that's it !
who wants the rules and ragas? may be the one who want to learn and compose ... and there is no hard and fast rule .. everyone has their own choices .. but everything is okay for plain listeners like us .. as long as it sounds great for us :-)
amazing i think balamurli is lucky to be telegu as this helps him with the pronounciation and is a great singer. Sri Thyagaraja ahs composed this song beautifully and deserves full credit. Well done !!!!
