  • Hey Lisa,

Awesome video! I have the Thesis them on one of my site and didn't realize how powerful it really was until I watched your video. Thanks for the heads up. Then I downloaded the "Open Hook" that you talk about. Thanks again!

  • I seriously thought you hard coded your theme for your website. So do you suggest to use Thesis for beginners? Seems like it costs money to use it..

  • @seekdestroy16 It does cost money to download it but it's a one off cost so it's orth it. I use it on my blog.

  • Lisa, does thesis work with websites too?

  • Lisa, I've subscribed to your Channel for a few weeks now and you completely sold me on the importance of getting a Thesis Theme. I just purchased the $164 version from your affiliate link - I refused to buy it from anyone else ;-)

I'm putting together a workout blog for all my Youtube workout videos and I think it's imperative to get a Thesis Theme not only for easy customization but also great design look and flexible features! Thanks for making a great video, Lisa.

  • I read in your e-book that you have to use your own hosting to have adsense and affiliate marketing on your blog (can't use wordpress). I have my own domain name that I purchased, but I am currently hosting using wordpress (the name points to the wordpress blog). Can I still make money with it on wordpress, or do I need to get my own hosting? Thanks!

  • Hello there !!!

I've seen this video about Thesis theme for WP and I like it a lot . . . I have one question: what about vertical menu implementation ? I'm looking for some plug-in that allow me to build up 2-level vertical menu (or n-level) . . can you help me ?

    Thank you,

    Roby.

  • Hey lisa,

I have thesis and i just installed it on my local machine. the theme is brilliant and i can customize it easily. The problem i have is that the navigation, the navigation only shows the link to the home page and not the about page or any other pages, how do i add those

  • @thetechall Go to the Site Options and under "Navigation" you can select what other kinds of pages you want to show up there. For example, I have certain wordpress "Pages" that show up in my nav. Good luck!

  • Hey Lisa I am chuffed that at last I have located your website from this video. Thanks for this. It seems more flexible than the 'Squeeze' theme. Wonder if you have checked this out in your research and what your thoughts are. Book-marking ya baby . Have a great weekend : )

  • Thanks for the tutorial. I have been working with Movable Type for a long time and am making the transition to WordPress. I am thinking of going with Thesis and your tutorial sealed the deal.

  • lol for 87$ hope you will give me something more then few lines of code... hahaha

  • Xmas in April! Been tearing my hair out trying to choose an appropriate theme for my word press site. Like u happy with 80-90% and the 10-20% was driving me crazy. After spending $500 on a crappy social network script that further robbed u with having 2 pay for customization I was soo happy to find Word Press which was FREE! However couldn't change the themes the way I wanted. i'm very savvy w/computers n design but not coding. This huge 4 me 2. THANK U 4 THIS INFO! Woohoo!

  • Lisa do you have Thesis 1.7 now?

  • Thanks for explaining the benefits for the Thesis theme Lisa. Keep up the good work!

  • I dont see the big deal about thesis. I have had to custom several version and find the theme difficult to work with.

You can see some ofthe themes I built at wordpress (dot) gordonFrench (dot) com

  • Thank you for the video. It helped me a lot. You didn't mention the most important thing, though. How do you create those menus at the top of the page? For example, Home, About Lisa, etc. It would help me and others newbies a lot if you reply to this.

  • Hello Lisa, I have Thesis 1.6 and i can't seem to find that "open hook" option. Do you know where it might be on this newer version?

  • It's not part of the Thesis product. It's separate and was created by someone who is not affiliated with DIYThemes. Google it and you'll see the site where you can download it.

  • @lisa3876

Thesis 1.6 is part of THESIS & not as you say was created by someone else

Unless Chris Pearson is NOT the creator of Thesis.

BTW Thesis 1.7 is now out

  • How do I change the permission?

  • 74000 viewer

  • Lisa, I wanted to take a moment and personally thank you for going into detail about the problems you were having because I was having the same exact problems and experience.

    Sincerly, Chris Porter

  • I am very glad you made this video and explained in detail the problems you were having because I was having the same problems exactly and I think there are going to be many more.

    thank you lisa

  • I've been debating if I should purchase and I'm going to move forward with it. Thanks BTW LISA your greeeaaaaatttt!

  • Excellent presentation! You're natural teacher! I'll check this theme out. Thanks!

  • Have you seen any noticeable traffic increases with the Thesis theme since you implemented it?

  • Lisa nice work on the video! Thesis looks amazing so I'm really going to check it out and probably buy it real soon.

  • how easy is it to load your own customized banner and background into this theme? Do you need to be familiar with coding?

  • This is an excellent video!

It cleared a few doubts I had about this theme.

If you have an affiliate link on your blog for this theme, I'll be sure to come back and use it if I decide to buy :)

    Thanks again!

  • Nice video. I just bought this theme 2 days ago and installed, but "open Hook" doesn't show u as an option in my dashboard. I searched the Plugin Directory on WordPress but couldn't find "Open Hook" Can you tell me how to get that feature?. I posted on Support forum at DIY, but got no response.Thanks.

  • It's not an official WP or Thesis plugin so you have to get it from the official site. Just google Thesis Open Hook plugin and it should be the first result. RickBeckman(dot)org is the site.

  • Thanks lisa!!!!! This was exactly what I wanted!!!! Thank You very very much :)

  • Hi Lisa! I'm just new to wordpress. Just wanna ask, are we goin to pay if we download thesis? How much? tnx!

  • $87 or $164 if you want the developer's license and use it on multiple sites.

  • Tnx! Really appreciate it...More power!

  • Nice video, very informative, thanks for your review on the thesis theme, and as you said "you should stick with one theme for a little while" yeah there are many, probably millions of free themes but most of them have nasty/sloppy work, sometimes because of laziness and sometimes because of innocent work, you better of by buying a premium theme, some of the best ones are from wootheme, studiopress, elegant-themes, and thesis, I personally love studiopress.

  • I am new to this and trying to learn from scratch. This was very interesting and helpful.

Someone please tell me it runs on a Mac - or have I just revealed myself as a luddite.

  • Great Video Lisa! I love the thesis theme :)

Dream theme and thesis are my two favorites!

  • Wow, this video rules! This is how affiliate marketing should be. I went ahead and bought Thesis under your affiliate link and installed it. It's a beast, and a little confusing at first, but I'm sure that I'll get familiar with it have it under control in no time.

  • Thank you! Yeah I was a little lost at first too but the forums were GREAT. I think I got every question answered there so make sure you check them out. Thanks again for buying. :)

  • wow, great video. might have to consider this.

  • I love the video!!

I installed version 1.5.1, but the plug-in Thesis OpenHook did not install. I wonder why.

I just emailed the forum to see if they can help.

  • Great video, Lisa. I can't agree with you more. I didn't want to pay for a theme but Thesis rocks, and it's been only 3 days for me :)!

  • Thank You Lisa thae video is quite informative.

  • Lisa, Wow! What an awesome video. I have been searching/researching wordpress for days, nights, weeks. I want to build a website as oppose to a blog using it. I had many questions. After listening to ( I was laiding down because my eyes hurt from looking at the computer) your presentation, I was completely sold on the idea that I had to have Thesis. I am now a dedicated follower of "Lisa". Thanks.

  • This is awesome! I'm new to blogging, so thank you for bringing thesis to my attention. I'm purchasing now.

  • This was an incredible video and I appreciate the information. What program did you use to make this video? Do you know if you can convert a powerpoint into a YOUTUBE video and then do a voiceover like you are doing? Thank you again!!!!

  • Thank you. I use Camtasia Studio. I believe you can import a powerpoint presentation. All you need is a mic on your computer to do the voiceover. Go to TechSmith(dot)com for a free trial download.

  • Thanks SO much for this! I cant believe I found this a day after spending more money than I wanted to on a premium membership to premium wordpress theme design site. Im just starting with designing for websites with WordPress and Im not particularly savvy yet with CSS & PHP. This this is exactly what I needed and your video brings it all together in a way that makes sense for those of us who have been print designers. Glad to see you are an affiliate for something you like and actually use.

  • Thank you, Lisa. Great information about Thesis and great presentation. I will purchase this theme!

  • I just uploaded the OpenHook plugin into my plugins folder but can't see it anywhere in my Wordpress options. Can anyone help as I couldn't find anything in the forum. I left a questin which non one has got back to?!??

  • Did you upload it to the plugins folder? It should be located on the left side under "Appearance" in the WP admin area.

  • Yes that's exactly what I did and it just doen't appear on the left which is why I so confused. I deleted it and just repeated the whole process over again double checking at every stage. The process is so simple that i'm sure I did it right.

  • Hey, Lisa thanks for your help. It worked. Oh my goodness it feel like a weight off my shoulder. The strange thing is, I uploaded the 'UNZIPPED' folder and it worked.

    Now there's even more options:

    Thesis OpenHook

    Thesis Custom Styling

    Thesis Custom Programming

    Thesis Options

    Design Options

    WOW.

  • I know and I just yesterday. It's so nice to now be able to edit the custom stylesheet right from the WP Admin! Love Thesis!!!

  • Great vid Lisa. I already own Thesis but your video served as a useful reminder as to why I paid for this compared to many "similar" free themes.

  • Thanks for an interesting and informative video!

  • This is very good information.

  • This was great, thanks!

It's also great that you are an affiliate for something you like. I got Thesis when it first came out...it was supposed to be easy. It wasn't and I hated it. I'm not comfortable with PHP or CSS, and I just don't care to learn.

Coding was frustrating and I screwed my blog up...so badly that I went back to my old theme and swore (lots) NEVER to use Thesis.

With each update I check out the new improvements , but have not wanted to try it again until seeing your video.

  • It was a Safari 3 thing. Works on Firefox. Go figure...

  • Ahhhh.... cool. Glad u got to see it. :)

  • Is this video still available? It never seems to load.

  • It always loads for me. Strange.

  • Lisa - you mention in the hooks option you need to click "Execute PHP on this hook" - you only need to enable that if what you paste in includes PHP code, which yours doesn't. It shouldn't cause any problems by checking that box, but I thought I'd mention it.

  • Ohhhhhhhhh! I never knew that. Thank you. :)

  • I was disappointed at first because the first four minutes are audio with a static image.

The demonstration portion of the video was great.

  • Nice video. Never used Wordpress before, so this was useful

  • Lisa, if you are really or really want to become a professional blogger, you have to be able to change the css, and the php. If you are not savvy, you can, and should become. For less investment for the theme, you can buy css and php books (I did) Sounds you are selling the theme, therefore betraying your audience....

  • I COMPLETELY agree that in order to have total control over your theme you should learn PHP, CSS. HOWEVER, that is unrealistic that everyone will do so. Some people want to learn how to manipulate their blog without buying books, learning code. Is that the best way? Some will say no. That's a personal choice and that's why Thesis is such a great option for some. I am PROUD affiliate of the Thesis program. I love it and yes, earn a commission when people buy from my link.

  • [continued] I just got an email from a lady thanking me for sending her to Thesis. Unlike you, she did not want to spend time learning code so Thesis was a Godsend to her. I think the point here is that everyone values different things. Some people don't mind learning as you did, but others want other solutions. it comes down to individual value. Thesis is not the only option, but it is one I recommend because I use it and love it.

  • The books cost about a dollar each, on sites such as abe books and better world. It is possible to download PHP for dummies, print, and read, cover to back. Education will always be the best investment of them all, beating affiliate programs, since it can be resold, over and over. You may start contemplating on the fact that the next step on professional blogging is to enable to create, instead of reselling others....move on....

  • I respect your opinion, but I'm not a professional blogger nor am I trying to be.

  • Yes we have a divergence. I still plan to watch you once in a while, the videos are interesting.... regards from the middle east.

  • sayweb, sorry but I get so tired of "programmers" who attack people who don't want to learn code. Look, I bought Thesis for the reasons Lisa mentioned and don't care that she is an affiliate. She uses the product, likes it and recommends it. It's called Affiliate Marketing. She's not a professional blogger/coder and always admits that. I make $6,000/mo from my blog but can't write a LICK of PHP code. Some people value tools like this. That's great you learned code but not everyone cares to.

  • Yes, Lisa, the Thesis WordPress theme rocks.

    But, I digress...

RickWolff has poised an interesting question regarding your status with Intelligenterprises, LLC/DIYthemes, LLC. , the developer of Thesis.

Your affiliate code 2createawebsite indicates that you're an affiliate for Thesis. Would you please be kind to disclose that fact?

Because trust is paramount to your viewers, it would prove helpful to disclosure the truth. ;-)

  • Thanks for the comment. Yes, I am a proud affiliate of Thesis and never intend to hide that.

  • Thank you for your prompt reply and your "transparency," Lisa. You're very kind. ;-)

My posting my previous comment was intended to be helpful not insulting. I think RickWolff is suggesting that you duly disclose your affiliation to the products and services you promote in "each videos."

Perhaps that would lessen the anxieties of some skeptical viewers like RickWolff.

But, I digress... Personally, I think you rock, too. :-)

  • Lisa, are you part of the Thesis affiliate program? If so, wouldn't that be a good thing to disclose here?

  • I am learning so much, and you are great!

  • thanks for this great wp-tutorial

  • hi lisa,

    you're hot!

  • an excellent tutorial about a great theme!

  • Hi Lisa,

Did you buy the personal option or the developers option? Looks like with the personal option you can only use it on one site -- plus you have to keep their ad in the footer. Does that sound about right?

    Thanks.

    Kelly

  • Yep you got it. That's why I bought the developer's license. I want to be able to use it multiple blogs and remove the footer.

  • Thanks for putting together this tutorial. Now I see what all the hoopla is about. Since I don't know CSS at all, I thinking this theme might be what I'm looking for.

  • I'd like to know how this compares to Flexx from iThemes.

  • I'm sorry. I'm not familiar with Flexx themes.

  • how does this compare to artisteer?

  • You know, I just started hearing about Artisteer and don't know much about it. I must check into it.

  • artisteer lets you create themes from scratch...and joomla..and drupal. it does all 3 of them. the only downside is that they dont let you customize a theme you may have. does thesis allow you to customize any other themes? thanks

  • No, you can only customize the theme they provide.

  • sounds just like artisteer except artisteer can also do joomla and drupal.

  • What program are you using to do this video .

  • Camtasia Studio

  • Hey, I love your videos. :) I have subscribed. Did you choose the Personal Option?

  • Thank you. I bought the developer option. I wanted to be able to use the theme on multiple blogs and be able to remove the footer.

  • how did you create the border around the content?

  • It was part of the original theme. It's just a border attribute around the content container.

  • Wow, I just watched your whole Video. CRAZY.

I am Geeked, because my Blog is LAME. I got so many ideas of how I want it to look, but CSS and all other stuff just did my head in. I am marketer not CSS, and Code Guru. I am for sure gonna scoop this up. I love camtasia also. LISA YOU are so clean, and Clear in your videos. RIGHT ON. When you added that Banner with ease I just Smiled Ear to EAR.

  • LOL, thanks! I have been doing a lot of smiling from ear to ear since I got Thesis. This theme will not disappoint you!

  • Lisa, I must say that i am impressed. #1 out of 885,000,000 search results. WOW!!!!!!!!!!! also #5 out of over 300,000,000 search results. WOW!!!!!!! Your site is the bomb.

  • Great Thanks!

  • I have got to get my hands on thesis, in the near.

  • Great Video again. I have a question. Is Thesis only used for Blog themes or can it be used for any web template?

  • It's made for WordPress blogs only.

  • I just saw your affiliate link over to the side here. I looked for it on your blog, but did not see it. You are probably losing commissions because I had to take the time to find your link here.

  • Wow! Can't believe I forgot to add the link on the blog!! THANK YOUUUUU. :)

  • lisa, what is your desktop capturing software that you're using here?

  • Camtasia Studio

  • lisa!!!!!

  • You are always so awesome.

    oh how much?

  • $87 for the personal theme (only use on one blog) and $149 for the developer's option (that's the one I got). You can use it on unlimited blogs and can remove the copyright in the footer.

  • HTML for dummies like me!

  • cool theme! I think it would be cool if someone created a desktop app, similar to 'artisteer', where you could easily change the look/layout/feel of any wp themes! Great vid girl! Keep them coming.

  • I am gonna check it out.

  • Alright, I have a bit of a problem with my blog. I have a homepage that links to my blog, but when i click it, it takes me to the blog, but the logo at the top doesn't show or the naviagtion bar. how can i fix it to make it like yours?

  • Hard to troubleshoot this without seeing your blog. Are you using Thesis or is this just a general blog question/problem?

  • it's just a general blog question. You can find my site in my youtube channel since i can' t post it here.

  • thanks alot! ur support really helps me with all the info on website making :)

  • thank-you
