Maybe some people are confused. James jamerson played the bass line on i was made to love her. Hank cosby, who co-wrote and produced it, signed an affidavit attesting to the fact. I dunno where michael henderson comes in, maybe he did this fukin awesome version, but just to be clear-the og bassline was by the legendary james jamerson
fuck so true. i'm researching about him n the stuff he played from 70 to 75, having a real hard time cuz there's nothin out there to read! found a book called miles beyond and it seems to have some stuff written about henderson. im yet to find dark magus, henderson said on bass player that was the best one.
yeah i don't think henderson influenced stevie either, henderson was apparently just doubling stevie's left hand, which was again influenced by jamerson!
but miles specifically wanted to revisit his african roots when he was recording jack johnson and wanted the groove to represent a boxer dancing, and the sound of a train, which apparently henderson and dejohnette did well! and henderson was the only musician to remain from 70 to 75 with miles, so miles musta really digged what he was doing!
Thanks - this vid copies a few of MH's licks from his original playing on Stevie Wonder's "Live at the Talk of the Town" album (UK, 1970) - he was (and still is) awesome!!
This owns man, nice work. Ever listen to John Kahn jam on this song with Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders? I really like this song for a jam band cover but I don't hear it played enough.
Awesome. I never knew that he recorded live with Stevie. So this is how Henderson played IWMTLH. Stevie sure knew how to pick his bassists and so did Miles.
How do you know Michael's approach to the song? Is there a recording of him doing it. Im really interested because im a huge Henderson and STevie fan.

henderson is incredibly underrated and anyone who's listened to the shit he did with miles in the 70's knows that.

I copied a few bits, but I'll learn some more of the MH original and post when I get a chance - it's a great track.

MH appears on SW "Live at the Talk of The Town" (UK album, 1970 - recorded in London), wrongly credited to Jamerson on allmusic com.
