I think it is awesome that she started her own company, and was able to grow it even with a down economy. Great advice on networking—a skill I need to continue to develop.
I really like the idea of her company. It's really great that it isn't only PR and that they offer a variety of things. I think that's the easiest way to bring in a lot of business.
I like her honesty that PR is a "who you know world." It's discouraging and uplifting at the same time. While in an ideal world, it would be great to be known for your skill set, it brings home the fact that you have to be friendly, sociable, and likable to be successful.
I agree with Ms. Dooley that networking is the most important thing a PR student needs to do. I work in the Wisconsin Sate Senate and was able to network with lobbyists, one of whom represents a company in which I'm in the final stages of hiring for. This has been a tremendous tool in advancing my career while still in college. Thanks for your insight!
Its great see her company has seen great success in the down economy. It really shows how well UWW prepares their students for the real world. Networking is definitely a big part of finding a career. It is important to get your name out there and market yourself. It never hurts to try!
It was interesting to hear how your company has expanded and the awards you've received. Public relation professionals have a constantly changing job, they have to be adaptable to any situation because every customer is unique. The only critique I would have is the background music makes it hard to hear the speaker in some places. DM
Before UWW I had no idea how important networking was. After this video I love hearing that Jennifer uses tactics that she learned at UWW today. Who you know matters is always really huge and I thought it was really interesting that she mentioned that in this video. PRSSA is also something I hope to look into in my future at UWW.
Networking is SO important. I've learned that with my future career. If I make a connection on facebook, twitter, or linkedIn I make it a priority to make the connection in person. When I do this I usually make about 3 connections off of that person.
Good to see we are in the right school! As she mentions UWW helped her a lot to get where she is. She emphasizes the importance of networking to be a successful PR pro and this is essential in any career path.
I love how she loves the diversity she encounters on a daily. She notes how PR is forever evolving and developing. I think the best advice she gives is that in PR you have to know individuals who know other individuals:)
She was part of PRSSA, like me; it helped her network! I am glad I joined my first club at UW-W and hope it helps my future like others say. Stephanie B
I like how she says that UW-Whitewater has given her basic principles of PR and ways of how she would be able to carry out her business. I find it very interesting that her own business she started has gotten to where it is today.
I like how she talks highly of whitewater right away some people who graduate from their past schools don't say many positive things about it. Starting her own business I think is a HUGE deal it gives other people hope that they can do it too!
I love the fact that she emphasizes researching. I also admire that she started her business in a down economy. Many people would be scared but she did it and she's successful. She is an example to WW students that we can go out and start our own business.
I think starting her own business in a down economy and earning awards are huge accomplishments! I am very inspired by Jennifer Dooley's story and her knowledge of public relations.
I think that it is so amazing that Jennnifer directly applied what she learned from public relations and marketing at UW-Whitewater to starting her own business. A business like Jennifer's is very important to have right now in this economy to save businesses.
Jennifer Dooley's achievements are an amazing inspiration to PR Students. Having your own company three years after you graduate is amazing and being able to be so successful in a down market is equally amazing!
I think it is really neat how she stated that what she learned at UW-Whitewater she still uses in her every day life. She stressed the importance of networking and it is really important for us to realize that networking is HUGE part of any job. She is very dedicated and proud of her and companies achievements.
Many people have expressed the importance of networking. I seems that networking is PR in a way. It is nice to hear about the awards that they have one to show the good job that she is doing.
That's interesting that she was apart of PRSSA and that what she learned in PRSSA still helps her to this day.The advice that she gave PR students was to network and I'm learning that networking will get you far in this feild.
I liked that Jennifer was a member of PRSSA and that it had a big impact on helping her network with professionals in the PR industry. PRSSA has a lot of guest speakers which has been a great way to start networking.
I love that she spoke about how much PRSSA helped her. My favorite part is that she informed me that every client is in a different situation, so they have different need and you need to adapt to those needs to help the client.
I thought it was pretty cool that her company has won an award. I also think that it is great that they have brought over 300 jobs to the state. That is a great achievement given the state of the current economy.
I liked how Jennifer said that PRSSA helped her with networking and meeting real world professionals. A lot of us join organizations and wonder if it will really help in the future and Jennifer shows us that it really does and it's really worth it.
I liked that her biggest achievement was that she started her own business. She had a lot of campus involvement and it was good to know that all the classes I'm taking will stick with me in the future.
This has really gotten me interested in joining PRSSA and AMA. I have been networking as much as possible with professionals in my field of interest and its nice to hear how important that is in finding a quality job after college. Once again, the difference of work from one day to another is awesome to hear.
The more people you know is definitely the key to networking in PR. In so many ways it's more about who you know than what you know. I like how she explains how UW-Whitewater help prepare her for the real world.
I like that she discusses how her research education has benefited her in her "real world" jobs today. I like how she explains how her campus involvement in student organizations has stayed with her throughout her career. I understand her contact experience through student organizations because that is the direct reason I am involved with AMA. The main goal of each is to obtain contacts to help you in your job hunt after graduation.
I like that she talks about the extra curriculars that she was involved in while here at whitewater, its good to see that the experience gained from the PRSSA, gave her an advantage compared to others who may have been applying for the same job, its makes me thankful that I am involved in AMA, which gives me an extra boost on paper and in experience.
It was hard to hear her because of the background music. She was very informational and I love knowing that classes I’m taking will forever stick with me in my career. I like that in a PR career you just have to take it day-by-day because everything is so unexpected and constantly changing.
Im proud of Ms.Dooley on starting Dooley and Associates three years ago in a down economy. I'm really encouraged to join PRSSA next semester. She make a great point about networking. Students need to realize the power of networking. It can not only get you a job but it can help you get your job done in a timely manner. I also like that PR is diverse, every day is different.
The more professionals I hear from or listen to they always say how important networking is and Ms. Dooley said that would be her biggest piece of advice. The fact that she started her own company is extremely impressive and I really like hearing that her days are always different because that is what I want for myself.
Networking has become a big part of my everyday life so hearing Ms. Dooley say that is her biggest piece of advice was great to hear. Involvement in PRSSA is so important and I have heard that from so many people. When you hear it from someone as successful as Ms. Dooley you know you are doing the right thing.
I am a current member of PRSSA and I've gained a lot of connections by being a part of this org. as did Ms. Dooley. It's nice to hear explain some of her real world experiences and how much she enjoyed them.
It was great to hear that Jennifer was a former member of PRSSA and that it helped in her professional career. It was great to hear that it helped her network with professionals. Jennifer also emphasized networking in general as an important part of PR because it's all about who you know, which is what has been emphasized a number of times in PR classes.
It is really impressive that Jennifer has created a PR and marketing company that has grown to take on clients from 8 states. I think this shows how determined she is and since she is helping other businesses create marketing plans to expand their business, she is the perfect person for the job. - Jaime S.
Jennifer was a member of PRSSA at UW-Whitewater and it gave her good experience with working with professionals that she still utilizes today. This is encouraging since I myself am a member of PRSSA and it makes me want to get more involved with the organization by taking on a bigger role. I like that every day for her is different and that she describes Public Relations as always changing, and to network as much as you can.
I like the fact that PRSSA at UW-Whitewater was referenced. Her greatest achievement was starting Dooley in a down economy and won many awards. This is a great accomplishment to know that bringing over 300 jobs to the state of Wisconsin was achieved. I also love that she said its IMPORTANT to network. It helps you get your job done.
The fact that they brought 300 jobs to wisconsin is not only her greatest moment but an awesome accomplisment. She impacted the economy and has probably inspired a great deal of people. (including me)
I enjoyed how she talked about being in PRSSA and how it helped her become more professional in the public relations field. Her love and passion for her business is quite great. Its great to see that someone from UW-Whitewater was able to bring more jobs to wisconsin and make the state a better place. I loved her advice on networking as well.

It is important to be able to be flexible and ready for anything because PR is different everyday. It is also important to take advantage of every opportunity within the PR field that you can because it is a who you know type of world. - SH
PRSSA was something that Jennifer said helped her along the way. Like many of the other Alumni, she shares that Public Relations is a very diverse job. Networking is what is really important in the long run.
I like how she highlighted networking and how that is very important in PR. "It's not what you know its who you know" is very true especially in PR. I really liked the logo for the company in the background. Her responses sounded very scripted, wasn't quite as personable as some of the other people in the videos.
Her most memorable PR moment is pretty cool to hear about. Almost inspirational, because I would feel absolutely great about my career at that point! To be a huge part of not only expansion of a company but also 300 brand new jobs is pretty big!
I found it very encouraging to see how far this alumni got. She has a great point with PR principles being able to help us in real world, and her point about being adaptable is most definitely true.
I always enjoyed hearing that what we learn in the class rooms today will soon help us out in the real world. I love hearing that every day is not the same in a PR professional world.
