I´m not the best but the pilot at 1:33 just "jump" into the Glider... instead, leting the glider lift you, that is why he kind of "dive" a little after launch. See the difference between 1:33 launch and 1:54?

It seems to me that the most common mistake that people make on that ramp is to try too hard to get a lot of foot speed. That, plus some of the grip switches are too early.
Great video, great shots, great quality. I'm working on my H2 right now so admittedly I'm no qualified critic. However it appears that many of the launches were premature. So many of them dove into the launch when they should have been making long strides all the way down the launch. It also looks as though a few pilots pushed out on launch before airspeed was sufficient. But seriously beautiful shots.
Last take off -sweet as...everyone else was too slow with their take off run and too eager to get into the harness before gaining sufficinet clearance from the hill-on a more challenging take off and /or tail wind/cross wind thermic launches there would have been problems with stalls or glider control issues.
This is the first video I've seen of me launching as well ....other than my very 1st. I'm glad I wasn't the worst L) I was third off in the red and white Stingllxc. Thanks for taking the time to video some of us rookies :)
I am only halfway through the video. First comment, beautifully done video. Second comment, WTF is wrong with these people? Are the pilots SO bad that they have to be tossed off the hill by the wire people? or do the wire people think that the pilots are so bad that they need all that pushing on the wires and keel? Seriously, WTF?!?! Is it a compulsion, or what? It's not that windy, besides, CLEAR means let go, not give me a push.
Why do I have a gripe/ Oh, I don't know, maybe because I have some sort of complex which makes me think that pilots should be able to launch unassisted, regardless of whether the assistance is needed or not,. When wire people "assist" when there is no reasonable need, that's worthy of a gripe. If you feel you can school me in techniques and safety, by all means, I'm all ears.
13 Launches - - 2 very good ones --- 4 ok and the rest not so good - # 8 Blue under surface with lime green trailing edge, definitely the worst- ( major nose pop before he even got running and jumped into it to boot)-- I say # 7 was the best with 11 and 10 being good
Thanks Lucas, I've never watched myself launch . It definitely helps to watch yourself to get better. I don't think mine was the worst , but not the best either (red, yellow, and white Sport II). Beautiful day to be in the air!
@jan288y - Excellent, glad to help John, I'm the same way, and I always find it helpful. I thought you had a good launch, nose popped a little but not as bad as others, overall good!
@R3DBRISK - yea, it's pretty exhilarating - that day (yesterday) I flew with a red tail hawk for a little while - and stuff like that happens all the time - it's so much fun

What?? The wire people weren't "pushing" on the wires. Why do you have a gripe when there is no call for one?? Get a grip, not a gripe!

nice touch with the hacki-sack circle in the end. As far as launches are concerned, jwm239 nailed it.

can someone tell me were to get the stream lining for the Falcon cross bar?

Northwing makes them commercially for their glider--I designed my own

Cool mailbox, Big Banana, couple popped noses, orange shark PULL IN, nice launch Eric W., hackin' keeps you young!!! FUN STUFF

...many pilots seemed to rush getting
their feet into their pod harnesses; others
dropped their hands to base tube maybe
a bit soon...? I would first want to focus
on clean launch, proper airspeed, and
getting well clear of terrain first. A couple
pilots seemed to 'jump' into gliders,
cutting the takeoff run a bit short.

Don't know about the launches--but my glider is definitely the baddest looking one on the vid : )
litespeedRS 2 years ago
HA, nice - c'mon Mark, you mean to say all of the launches looked fine? I'm just looking for some constructive criticism here to help these pilots.
LucasRidley 2 years ago
Well, I'm not one for the great grip mass-debate--but I will say this: all launches everywhere are all about correct angle of attack and airspeed.
