The original locations of Kotor to me are more awe inspiring and fresh compared to these "known from tv" locations. And the older counterparts of the pre-existing locations. I hope they don't really screw it up. Otherwise they could just call this Star Wars Galaxies 2 wouldn't they ? Btw. just played kotor2 again for a long time and i gotta say Mandalorians would never be destroyed by puny fleets like that. Only a jedi and the whole republic would be enough to fight honourably against.
I think this is sad that they've completely changed things from the old kotors. Like "the empire" never existed, there are numerous references to locations in the films. As I friggin love the Kotor game series one of the things that is probably the best about it is it's non canon timeline sum 4000 years before the star wars films. I'm not a sw guru i know nothing about comics or other extended universe stuff. But kotors were great without empire. Sith faction was so and more menacing.
We have a fully functional website, a very strong leader and rank structure, along with very high goals are expectations.
Why start the game alone when you could start with an army of friends and enjoy it? If you hate the Republic, Join now. We will focus on PvE/PvP/RP and anything else the game may offer.

After reading Darth Bane: The Path of Destruction this all seems kind of pointless. Banes just gonna kill all the Sith and then orchestrate the downfall of the Republic a thousand years later - so that virtually every Jedi and Sith in the universe will be dead as f*cking fried chicken. I agree that all these force users fighting against eachother with little to no end or resolution in sight isn't very compelling.

@MysteryPoet917 graphics dont make the game good lol. Yeah it may make it ok to look at but the graphics makes it good? Really dont make me laugh lol. Gameplay makes a game good, why do u think they call it GAMEPLAY? Plenty of games look good, but has the worst gameplay I have ever done. So really dont think graphics makes a game good. Graphics just help and if u play a game just for its graphics im sorry but it wont last very long. So have fun with that thought.
@ShmityCent I had a cool idea about that earlier, have recorders of data, and after a certain large battle, take stuff from the data, and then patch the game to whatever side had won. If data on one server shows Republic victory in general, then the game is changed likewise. Say, there would be a large battle, data is taken, and then the planet is either kept or captured by the winning side. It'd take work and dedication from the developers, but it'd make the game amazing.
@ShmityCent are you suggesting that star wars would have a conclusive ending. i mean if you look at the story, its always one side hiding and one in power. thats the thing about a star wars mmo. one side can never truly win because the other may dissapear for a time. but a jedi can turn to a sith. so technically this is a better game than a conclusive kotor because star wars physically cannot end with one side winning, also making your first point invalid since no side can win permanently. owned
yeah, I'm not buying this stuff. I'm not going to spend monthly for a poor storyline game that goes nowhere. I'm waiting for KOTOR 3.
And may I add to that list of your a new JEDI KNIGHT? Why does Lucas Arts don't care about what fans really want? We've been asking for a new battlefront kotor or jedi knight for years.

But think about the money with a mmorpg u pay a fee to play so more money with a simple single player game u pay like 60 euro(or nothing;) and you play it .... nowadays they dont care about originality only about money :(

@EmilioIsMyName The storyline does go somewhere, it's just a different story. This is an old comment, before beta got out there so don't take this as me trolling as I realise your opinion can be different now. But the story is focused on "being a Jedi Knight in the old republic" or smuggler, trooper, etc. You're a hero-esque of these archetypes but your story isn't as "save the world" as Revan's was it's more about being part of the world, and it puts RPG part back in MMORPG.
@ShmityCent you realize that its not gonna be a MMO story the story is gonna be with NPC no real ppl are gonna be in it nothing else will be affected unless they do large amounts of phasing even in KOTOR no side actually won

But Revan may have had a different reason. Revan though, was the only Sith in the whole existence of the Sith, to ever know the True Sith's plans. Noone else did, so truly, Revan was the best. All hail Emperor Revan, glorious as he is.

@MiTSuBisHiEVo08 galaxies is a good game, but idk, i just don't have the same joy as i play kotor, kotor 1 and 2 are really made well.. but bioware is known for they're superb games so i bet they'll make of swtor one to remember
why do they reference the empire? its in the mandalorian period.. 300 years after KOTOR 2 but before the first film. it cant be after episode 3 when the empire is clearly there because all the jedi were wiped out by order 66 and there wern't any other sith because there was only palpatine (sidious) and each of his apprentices
@psychicdumass Wrong empire bud :) This is the sith empire. The one that rose to power in the KOTOR games. Its the one that you spend all your time battling. You remember Darth Revan and Malak? They birthed this empire after the mandalorian wars as I remember. And its that empire that you are fighting. Not the one from the films which was brought to power by the Palpatine

@rockyinchester this occured 3000 years before the Phantom menace. the Star wars galaxy goes back 25,000 years Before the Movies, and 120 years after, so far.
@arktheball Actually you are wrong too, this is the empire that turned revan and malak to the dark side. you dont actually know this happens in kotor, as malak and revan decide to forsake the sith emperor and create their own empire, thus the jedi civil war of kotor. after this the republic had no idea that the sith empire actually existed and were caught completely off guard.
the sith empire was started after the great hyperspace war (2000 years after formation of republic) bythesithsurvivors.

@cryssiss Yes, but technically they were on the same level of strength and cunning, but also the dark side is more powerful in comparison of brute force, thus he won. Also, he didn't own Yoda it was pretty close.

so the first game and second game was called the nights of the old republic so to save time the call it THE Old republic and that title puts star wars at a different series. what dose this meen? there is no link to The N.O.T.O.R. but the story line is similiar to the other games. so the title is it's own series... so it's not notor.
The graphics suck. Sure it a huge mmo, but has anyone seen the graphics? Its worse than WOW and that sucks. I honestly don't see what everyone's psyching themself up for.
@mwarrior17 You do realize its barely even into beta. The graphics aren't comparable to WoW seeing as WoW has different engines... So we psych ourselves up for gameplay... not graphics...
@crofud Actually just like how our current technology is based off old technologies and theories, the Star Wars universe does the same thing. It merely revives old theories and technologies, and makes them stronger.
Sometimes in war technologies get better, sometime worse (because worse is cheaper). Example: In Episode II on Genosis the CIS used small missile droids; they didn't work so well, so they were gone by Episode III (the same can be said about regular Battle Droids, in favor of Supers)

Hey yall might not belive me but the games is supposed to come out summer 2011. I know a guy. So start making friends/allies. I am also creating a group of mercs that can be jedi's bounty hunters or troopers...but no sides....no dark or light...just killing. pm me or add me for details.
So far all Kotor worked for mac, Kotor 1 natively, Kotor 2 via wine, if not native TOR will surely work with wine or crossover, but i bet LA and BioWare will make a native mac version after PC version is out

I have to agree with Kekkon3n. The Mandalorians weren't part of the empire. They were essentially bad ass space vikings. They were a warrior race.
I honestly think they were the coolest part of star wars.

@EmilioIsMyName The storyline does go somewhere, it's just a different story. This is an old comment, before beta got out there so don't take this as me trolling as I realise your opinion can be different now. But the story is focused on "being a Jedi Knight in the old republic" or smuggler, trooper, etc. You're a hero-esque of these archetypes but your story isn't as "save the world" as Revan's was it's more about being part of the world, and it puts RPG part back in MMORPG.

why do they reference the empire? its in the mandalorian period.. 300 years after KOTOR 2 but before the first film. it cant be after episode 3 when the empire is clearly there because all the jedi were wiped out by order 66 and there wern't any other sith because there was only palpatine (sidious) and each of his apprentices

They birthed this empire after the mandalorian wars as I remember. And its that empire that you are fighting. Not the one from the films which was brought to power by the Palpatine

Revan and Malak were recruited by the Sith Emperor on Dromund Kaas, after the Mandalorian Wars, explaining their fall to the Dark Side.
Revan defied the Emperor and began having visions of his own empire (Kotor 1+2).
These are the "True Sith" which Kreia mentioned in Kotor2.
These Sith have been preparing ever since their defeat at the hands of the Jedi after the Great Hyperspace war.

@arktheball Actually you are wrong too, this is the empire that turned revan and malak to the dark side. you dont actually know this happens in kotor, as malak and revan decide to forsake the sith emperor and create their own empire, thus the jedi civil war of kotor. after this the republic had no idea that the sith empire actually existed and were caught completely off guard.
the sith empire was started after the great hyperspace war (2000 years after formation of republic) bythesithsurvivors.

so the first game and second game was called the nights of the old republic so to save time the call it THE Old republic and that title puts star wars at a different series. what dose this meen? there is no link to The N.O.T.O.R. but the story line is similiar to the other games. so the title is it's own series... so it's not notor.

@crofud Actually just like how our current technology is based off old technologies and theories, the Star Wars universe does the same thing. It merely revives old theories and technologies, and makes them stronger.
Sometimes in war technologies get better, sometime worse (because worse is cheaper). Example: In Episode II on Genosis the CIS used small missile droids; they didn't work so well, so they were gone by Episode III (the same can be said about regular Battle Droids, in favor of Supers)

So far all Kotor worked for mac, Kotor 1 natively, Kotor 2 via wine, if not native TOR will surely work with wine or crossover, but i bet LA and BioWare will make a native mac version after PC version is out
