hey in some weeks my art academy study starts and i d like to know what kind of steel do you use and how thick it is :3 you make really good stuff i wish i could do it so im going to try it. you inspire me !
No armor doesn't break when you bang on it while its not hot, thats called cold working when its cold, and hotworking when its hot. Forging is alltogether molding something like pouring a sword or a knife in steel.
yes, the steel used for armor is thinner than the steel used for swords, if the armor was the same thickness as a sword, then the armor would be too heavy to wear. If you had a sword the same thickness as armor, well, the sword would be too....thin....to use
drawing it out to form it seems a lot harder than the way I do it I just make molds of my body out of concrete and form the steel into it but drawing it out you don't create creasing though but if your good you don't have that prob
It's most likely steel. Mild steel can be worked hot or cold, but when cold working, martensite crystals form, making the metal brittle. Heating it prevents this from happening. Hot metal is also softer, therefore easier to work.
Yes - mainly that you don't have to heat it! You need a torch to heat the metal, and when you hammer the hot metal, a very fine layer will flake away, thinning the metal. Hot metal also demands respect. Even when it's not visibly hot, it can still burn you.
Haha, I love the slow motion at 1:51, brilliant. Thanks so much for these videos, truly an inspiration. And showing the raising process sped up instead of small sections from each step is genius.
A quick question if ur making an armor is better to use hammering technique, or heat the metal? Im asking cus im not sure if that makes the metal to brittle or is it ok?

Rosenrot64 2 years ago
@Rosenrot64 I think it's Le Nozze di Figaro from Mozart
jayhellcat 1 year ago
@Rosenrot64 to be more specific: the "Letter Duet" ("Canzonetta sull'aria") from Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro.
jayhellcat 1 year ago
@Rosenrot64 The other one is ''J'Attends'' a soundtrack from the movie Black Hawk Down. So was the other one (from The Shawshank Redemption).

Doesn't the armor break when you shape it when it's not heated?
SlappieBob 2 years ago
no, there is a forging method called 'cold forging', where (as the name implies) the steel is formed as is, without being heated
JonasIsdiaNeravar 2 years ago
Howcome that can be done with armor and not with swords? Just because it's thinner?
SlappieBob 2 years ago
yes, the steel used for armor is thinner than the steel used for swords, if the armor was the same thickness as a sword, then the armor would be too heavy to wear. If you had a sword the same thickness as armor, well, the sword would be too....thin....to use
JonasIsdiaNeravar 2 years ago
Yes, I get that..:P I was just referring to the steel not cracking because it's thinner:P
SlappieBob 2 years ago
oh okay! I think the only time that steel would actually crack, is if you hit it to hard and it was too thin, or if it is a weaker steel
