Thrash metal? Thrash metal??? Pah! It's like y'mum humming Abba compared to this! I just knocked over the pot plant and I think I've tweaked me hamstring. Fabulous..
Although just been listening to the chieftains and theres a tune they do named the kerry polka which sounds nothing like this!! the same tune as this is on the pogues box set as the kerry polka so.......... fuck knows!!
was singing this in the rigging of our race yaght in a gale force 10 ! was an incredible experiance ...then we put the ACDC on when 12 metre waves started raking the deck
after singing this song on several tallships over the years (raising sails of course) i have to say i didnt really like this version at first. but the more i listen to it the more i like it, the pogues are just so damn good

I run her all night I run her all day Heave away! Haul away! Run her before we sailed away And we're bound for South Australia I shook her up I shook her down Heave away! Haul away! I shook her round and round and round And we're bound for South Australia And as you wollop round Cape Horn Heave away! Haul away! You'll wish that you had never been born And we're bound for South Australia
Haul away you rolling king Heave away! Haul away! All the way you'll hear me sing And we're bound for South Australia As I walked out one morning fair Heave away! Haul away! It's there I met Miss Nancy Blair And we're bound for South Australia There ain't but one thing that grieves my mind Heave away! Haul away! It's to leave Miss Nancy Blair behind And we're bound for South Australia

Sometimes the souped up versions of old classics work well, other times like this, not, sadly. Too fast, and too barn dancish at certain points. No denying the energy though, got to give them that.
@Mr1Silverfox1 In South Australia I was born,Heave away, Haul away, In South Australia 'round Cape Horn
We're bound for South Australia, Haul away your rolling king, Heave away, Haul away, Haul away oh hear me sing, We're bound for South Australia, As I walked out one morning fair,Heave away, Haul away'Twas there I met Miss Nancy BlairWe're bound for South Australia. There's just one thing that's on my mind,Heave away, Haul away,That's leaving Nancy Blair behind, We're bound for South Australia
It's not quite Salmon Tails, though it is very similar. But to be fair, I don't actually know what it is. On 'Just Look Them In The Eye and say Pogemahone' the tune is credited as 'The Kerry Polka', but it definitely isn't the Kerry Polka either. I suspect it's probably the Pogues taking Salmon Tails' and exercising a bit of artistic license. Whichever way, they did a good job of it anyway so never mind.
i was looking for the sheet music to the tune that they play at the end of this song. i heard it was called the Siege Of Ennis but all the music i found for that was different but i think found the right one now. thakns :)
@jebanjo1 It has a few names. Terry Woods called it the Kerry Polka but I don't think thats the proper name for it (as there is another very common and entirely differnt tune that already bares that name). The Siege of Ennis is possibly correct....
@Nessiefan The original is actually much older than The Seekers! A version was collected by Laura Smith from sailors in Tyneside and printed in her The Music of the Waters in 1888.
hey, i'm South Australian and i've never heard this song it's really cool though.
