  • I am looking for a Sweet video that was once on youtube, where they are singing an early song of theirs close to a fountain... might have been at Trafalger Sq. Can't find it anymore. :(

  • the first lp (yes record) I ever bought was Sweet singles album. 15 yrs old, long hair, f#@%$cken loved it. this rare footage is fantastic. Who's Nicky Chin? must have come later. I remember Brian connelly-vocals(what a champion) Steve priest-guitar Andy (sh%t I forget his last name... someone help me) and mick on drums. saw there "countdown"(aussie music show of the 70s and 80s) episode the other week , loved it!!

  • @awatchernamedwidget Nick Chin was the guy who wrote the song for the guys along with Mike Chapman

  • @spikeman14 Is that the guy who wrote songs for Smokie & Suzy Quatro?

  • My Foots Tapping

  • ONE OF THE BEST SONGS OF THE 70S DEFO IN MY TOP 5.

BRIAN CONNOLY HAD ONE OF THE BEST ROCK VOICES EVER

LISTEN TO HELL RAISER, ACTION, BALLROOM BLITZ ECT

GREAT MUSICIANS ALL OF THEM. SWEET WERE BIG ALL OVER THE WORLD

WETHER IN CONCERT OR CHARTS A VERY BIG ACT IN THE 70S.

    RIP BRAIN, AND MICK LEGENDS.

  • Blockbusting Music ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • fanbloodytastic

  • "Keep your eyes on the road, your hands upon the wheel...." sounds like Roadhouse Blues by the Doors.

  • @docloge Might even be Bowie's 'Jean Genie"...doesn't antimatter..this riff was already used by The Yardbirds' I'm A Man"in '65. And probably way before, by 50's rock'n'rollers.

  • "Keep your eyes on the road. your hands upon the wheel..." .sounds like Roadhouse Blues by The Doors...lol i still kinda like it though

  • The King himself, Rod Stewart has used "The Stripper" as intro to his shows...

  • I am so glad to hear them getting some respect! Motley Crue even use David Rose' "The Stripper" to open, Sweet did this in '76 when I saw them, best concert I've ever seen! Mick Tucker is the best drummer of all! They didn't really wear makeup by that time, kids! They were more like Deep Purple than the Bay City Rollers! They were just better looking than Purple, Heep, Sabbath, or anybody else, and people were jealous!

  • The only similarity between Blockbuster and Jean Jeanie is the guitar riff.

The reason both riffs are similar is that both "borrowed" from the old "Tobacco Road" riff.

Jean Jeanie was released just before blockbuster and when Andy Scott heard it (JJ) on the radio he phoned producer Phil Wainman and asked him to pull Blockbuster.

Phil Wainman refused and said it was going to be a smash.

The rest is History. Neither song copied from each other - just used a very similar guitar riff!

  • Thanks 6PB for your post.... know we can all rest. Blockbuster is a gem of a song!!

  • Great Upload thanx .....a Gem!!

  • Glitz,Blitz + Hitz is the video you Sweet fans have to see + listen.

  • yeah thats a great dvd

  • Tanx....funny føøtage./

  • Hi and a Happy New Year 2008 !

    Info.

1st part from the Audio International studios, Rodmarton Street W.1. London.

They only spent 1 week making "Desolation Boulevard" (UK release)

Mike Chapman is talking to the band, looks like Phil Wainman inside at the mixing desk.

2nd clip from the rehersal of "Blockbuster" for Top of the Pops on the 25:th of January 1973.

Finally: The man in red is the presenter of TOTP on this day, Jimmy Savile.

    Stay Sweet and

    best wishes from Sweden

  • Are you sure? I thought the guy with the glasses talking to the band is Nicky Chinn?

& Mike Chapman sitting at the mixer?

  • Jimmy Savile? I thought it was Brian Connely's Gran....similar hair!!

  • Nicky Chinn is not the guy in the glasses.....he's my uncle, so I am 110% sure of this. :)

  • Good to hear that from reliable source.

I have followed the band since 1971 and I was 100% sure but "aniseedrock23250" didn't want to change her statement. Hate people who can't accept a misstake.

By the way, what's your uncle doing today?

    Thanks jomamah2

  • Never Ever seen this before.its so funny

the end part.. thanks so much.

  • So thats nicky chinn hey?

  • Another Great Bit of The Sweet behind the scenes at the Top Of The Pops, Many thanks for uploading. Looks like Jimmi is having a lot of fun dancing !

  • Just to make it clear ;) it's the footage of the studio work on Desolation Boulevard. Only, this clow at the end ... wtfk is he? However, it's great and rear. Thanks hakkman, cheers!

  • November 72....now who says Jean Genie came first???....Rock On Sweet. xx<3xx

  • Bowie licks lamposts....THE SWEET RULE!

  • Rock on! my point exactly. The Sweet shall live forever!

  • I never get tired of The Sweet. Their songs are always fresh and brilliant. One of my faves is one of their later ones, "Lost Angels". This band could ROCK! They were great because they had incredible songs plus they were excellent players and brilliant singers; their harmonies were fantastic. Plus they had one of the best frontmen of any band ever, Brian.

  • yeah...totally....i'm 18, and most people expect me to like whatever crawled into this weeks chart....but The Sweet is my all time favourite band and each member had their own uniqueness, and i never get tired to listening to them. i have most of their albums...in the main lineup i only lack the 3 piece albums.

  • They really were best as a four piece. Without Brian they really weren't quite The Sweet anymore. He was indespensible to the band.

  • well yeah i agree...but as a fan of each individual as well as a band i can appreciate any other material...well except for todays lineup of BC Sweet...because i just think that's wrong.

  • I am proud to say I saw them on their first US tour in 1975. They were fantastic, opening with Hellraiser. They didn't play Little Willy but it really didn't matter. They were rocking and magnificent. They did their set, and left with no encore. This was before encores became a cliche. I saw The Hollies in 1972 and they didn't do an encore either. Now everybody does them of course.

  • you lucky son of a .... i'm so jealous...with or without an encore the original lineup would have been heaven for me....i saw AS Sweet a month ago and i thought they were fantastic, so that makes me wonder how i'd react to something even better.

  • How great is it, though, that we can see all these incredible videos of The Sweet now and bask in their glory. Make sure you see the ones where they play live and are not miming to a record. They are so great that words are almost inadequate. In fact, I think The Sweet makes most other bands look inadequate for that matter. Simply astounding.

  • i've listened to and watched nearly every video on here already...including my select favourites that i watch time and time again.

  • The acoustic songs "Lady Starlight" and "You're Not Wrong for Loving Me" are very nice, too. But of course we love the rockers best. Who wouldn't?

  • too right! it'd be a cold day in hell before i stopped liking The Sweet.

  • "you're not wrong for loving me" suprised me. I remember when I thought the song was made w/ lady starlight. It was so early in their career. that's what makes sweet, so good.

  • Hey aniseedrock23250

can you shed some light to this mystery. Is the guy with the glasses

in the studio a young Nicky Chinn or Mike

    Chapman???????????????????

  • Mr Chinn...for sure.

  • Nicky Chinn is not the guy in the glasses. I know this for sure...he's my uncle.

  • The Sweet didn't open with HELLRAISER on that particular occasion because they only EVER played it once in the US. This was in DETROIT on 27th Feb 1976.

  • You're telling me I didn't hear them open with "Hellraiser" at their first ever US gig at the Santa Monica Civic in S. California? But I was there!

  • I'm quoting Brian as he announces the song taken from the recording from MASONIC AUDITORIUM, DETROIT 2

7-02-1976 "We're gonna do a song that we never did in the States before because we didn't think anybody was that worth it but you really are.............it's called Hellraiser"

  • The similarity between this and Jean Genie is v.superficial. Play them on a guitar and find out. Both great tunes

  • i would if i could play my guitar.

on the point though...i would like to comment that superficiality goes further than just this musically.

  • Fuck off, they're the same song

I'm a Man by the Yardbirds, LOL

  • not the same song dick head. fuck off their not !!!!!!!!!

  • Only musically, you cunt

  • what the FUCK do you mean, only musical . they either FUCKIN ARE OR FUCKIN NOT .. YOU FUCKIN COCK!!!!

  • Do your mother drive you about in a wheelchair?

Otherwise walking abortions get left to vegetate quietly, LOL

  • chromosome 21, run in your family retard!!

  • Nock nock, LOL

Learn a language, then speak, LOL
