  • wahe guru!! wahe guru!!

  • Guru Gobind Singh Jee Maharaj said very clearly "Jab Eh Gaye Bipran Kee Reet, Mai Na Karaon in Kee Prateet". When Sikhs all over the world started to cut their hair, shave their beards, drink alcohol (Delhi Sikhs are no less in this regard), dance wildly at parties, practice Hindu rituals (like India's prime minister), what do you expect? When people like Bhai Vir Singh and Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia were "in charge" of running Sikh affairs, there was no such plight of Sikhs anywhere.

  • @Ikjyot yes bro ur right

  • i live in Australia born in rural part of punjab, and since the day I was born I was being told to come up as doctor, engineer and later not less than computer programmer BUT never as a electrician, plumber, labourer or the jobs which are considered menial (that is sick mentality). And today I am working with Australians, British and Americans and they have the highest respect and higest paid jobs here. So BRING A CULTURE OF LABOR AND AVERAGE WAGE. Indian race was better when whites ruled india.

  • I wish i could do something to help i live in california ( USA ) it hurts me deeply to see my people living like this..i hope one day i make enough money to help these people out because life is all about helping people in need god bless these people and i hope and pray life gets better for them especially the kids..

  • Bhaji, who is the councilor of the Area?

    Did you meet him?

Let us help them but not before humiliating people who are responsible for them and have chosen to neglect.

Feel like spitting on the face of Manmohan Singh!

  • I reckon the government has failed these people miserabley over a few generations. Possibly maliciously on purpose. Brahminsim is in there too so it stinks of some dark forces keeping these people backwards. To only go backwards. Regardless.

  • I reckon the government has failed these people miserabley over a few generations. Possibly maliciously on purpose.

  • is this because of 1984

  • has there been any medical treatment made available for the girl with a big tissue growth on stomach?

  • I guess every religious group lives in slum areas.

  • dont be shocked as every person has his own right to choose and worship any god they like no matter who they r ...... afterall they all lead us to one alma mater and one god if u think with ur whole heart soul and mind

  • @zeenatv There aren't many Gods to choose from like you said then where does any god they like come from. When sikhs bow their head in front of Guru Granth Sahib, they not only respect 6 gurus bani but also, amritbani of 11 hindu saints from different castes.

  • this is just 1 village

  • Well, Sirji this video looked more appalling and despicable to me than the actual state of the community shown. The creator is oblivious to other "human beings" living in similar condition next to these "special community people" (I belong to it as well , btw). Also, in all this misery, poverty , illiteracy and disease , we don't miss the fact that how important it is to worship according the orthodox and traditional ways prescribed ?!! Pray someone tell me how this video helps the "community"?

  • @parampreetjudge : This is actual video footage hence whatever you see are facts. About other next door communities- I was oblivious to even this community living in such conditions. This video helped the community in following ways -Education is being provided to 205 children of the area (people from USA, UK, Thailand, India & Australia have sponsored). A 2 day medical camp was organised by a team of doctors from USA. Gurudwara Sahib in the area was totally renovated where also go & learn path

  • @gbpksehgal why "slumdog" sikh??

  • @gbpksehgal bro keep it up thanks for showing about the truth i did"t about this before i feel so bad for this!!!!

  • I found several poor sikhs, but amazingly not even 1 was found begging. (not derogatory in any way)

    thank u

  • poverty has no religion. However, there is one strange fact which i personally observed here. there were several poor sikhs, but still i did not find 1 single sikh begging on the streets.

Sad, but amazing at the same time.

  • i got one point to make ,,,,,in punjab we have people coming from all the other states to earn their livings and they earn too gud,,in which they live in punjab and even send money back to their own families in their own states,,,THEN WHY DONT OUR OWN PEOPLE LIKE THESE COME TO PUNJAB FOR ALL THE LABOUR WORK THEY ARE DOING FOR JUST A MEAL OF DAY,,,in punjab atleast they can eat gud food and live a little better life then this and even can go to schools ,,,,why they are stick to that place only,,

  • So what if the Sikhs are living below the poverty line, let the walls of Gurudwaras be decorated with Gold plates? Sikhs are hard worker not the beggars. Even by living in this inhuman conditions, whenever they visit their Guru, they offer something out of their hard earning which ia accepted at first hane by Guru not the gold offered by richest Sikhs who have done nothing to promote Sikhism or it's upliftment of society.

I feel proud of these Sikhs.

  • IS SGPC and delhi GPC sleeping? REQUEST TO ALL SIKHS- A beautiful gold covered gurudwara or a candid langar is worthless if your own brothers and sisters are living in SLUMS. Help your community before helping others. Divert your daswand for Sikhs not for pockets of the Gianis or for the Kar Sewas..

  • I feel so bad. I want to do anything i can

  • if i had the cash i would help people who are in dire straits, doent matter wether muslim, hinu or sikh, all are brothers!

  • I am taking up this issue with local jatha . we will contact u soon.

  • sikh population of the world is less than 0.36%. sikh population of india is less than 1.8%

there are now more christians in india than sikhs.

SPREAD SIKHISM TO EVERY CORNER OF THE WORLD

  • From now on , I feel like guilt sleeping even in under a fan ! or AC !

  • this is because of the genocide in 1984

  • waheguru aap ji nu hor bal bakshi ji.bachan SHRI GURU HAR GOBIND SAHIB JI.GARREB THA MOO GURU DE GOLAK

  • show to D.G.P.C AND S.G.P.C

which are thekedar of sikh religion

  • This is a good cause. God Bless you.

  • I guess Veerji we are to blame ourselves as we have not done anything for our community till now. And no one else wants to help Sikhs. Apart a couple of Sikh organisations I have not come across any Sikh organisation or NGO working to help these needy Sikhs. Dog fighting among Sikhs is common. When committee members in one Gurudwara fight the members leave and start building another Gurudwara nearby. We need NGOs to help these Sikhs and not Gurudwaras every 5 minutes

  • Is there a trust fund that one could contribute to? Are you in touch with any of the Sikh organizations? I have exams until the end of December. After that, I will try and contact the Sikh students Association at my university and talk to them about contacting relevant NGOs. The Gurdwaras in the West are more than capable of helping out. I'll get back to you around the end of December.

  • Thanks Veerji. I am enthused by your comments. We mainly want to be involved in education and employment related projects. However, when I visited the Gurudwara Sahib I was shocked to see the state it was in. When I saw a lizard crawling on Guru Granth Sahib Ji, I was taken aback and decided that we need to renovate the Gurudwara Sahib also. I agree with you that we do not need Empty Gurudwaras every 5 minutes. This locality also has 4 Gurudwaras.

  • I am saddened to hear of this, but DO NOT discriminate based on their religion.

I am a Sikh, however you must help all people who need help regardless of their religion!!!

This happens to a lot of people please don't discriminate this is against our religion!!!

  • I agree. Our Gurus always preached & practised "Sarbat Da Bhalla". Out of the kids sponsored in the area a good no. are non Sikhs. So we are not discriminating. Besides, our Gurus also preached helping the deprived- in this area 1984 victims have not received a single penny from anyone. Also there is not even one NGO working in this area- so do we leave our brothers & sisters like this just because they are Sikhs? When we work in the area the idea is to help all.

  • Non-Sikhs included this is good.

Do we leave our brothers and sisters because they are Sikh NO.

And that is my simple point.

To me all people are brother's and sister's some good some bad; some rich some poor; our job is to help all no matter what.

I am not trying to denounce what you are doing or trying to do. I do agree with Dharm47's point. Sikhs are too busy arguing and fighting politics and build Gurdwara's 5 mins from the next one. Donate that money to a good cause instead

  • I m feeling bad to hear this, but this happens to a lot of people in India besides Sikhs. So as a human being we should think and serve all the people living in slum area without any religious discrimination.

  • I have a "Reservation" here..

Agreed, there should not be discrimination... But what if society discriminates against Sikhs by making laws relating to "Reservations for SC/ST/OBC"?

Theoretcally, there is no castiesm in Sikhi, but such policies of govt force sikhs to get certificates relating to being sc/st

Instead of looking upto govt, the need is to make sure Sikhs get education without assistance of "SC/ST/OBC" certificates..

  • If there are 100 seats in a medical college, 40% are reserved under various categories, and for remaining 60% seats, there is a huge competition in general category, where will sikh youth go? Maybe abroad..!! :P

  • I agree. In institutions where there are some seats reserved for minorities Sikhs are considered as a minority community. In Delhi, we are helping poor Sikhs in getting Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificates from the govt. This will help them in getting Free educcation in Public Schools. Last month we got 42 kids into schools. Next year target is 1000 kids.

  • Thanks for this documentary Mr. Sehgal. I am appalled to the conditions these Sikhs are living under. We have this image of the Sikh community as a very prosperous one, and in sticking to such stereotypes we ignore the plight of several Sikhs who live under conditions of abject poverty.

As for idol worship, I agree it is AGAINST sikh principles, in every sense of the word. However, I don't think that compares to the magnitude of the problems these Sikhs are facing. I am sure you agree.

  • What an eye-opener.

    The title needs amendment pls.

  • To know the real story, please ask to shoot in the same area in the Evening also to know the facts.

  • Lets all support them.

And, please amend the title if possible

  • I think their poverty is directly related to what happened in 1984

  • bhai sahib jeeo pls dont just show plight of sikhs but others as well. in the eyes of Bab Nanak all men are equal

  • Dear Veerji

    WJKK, WJKF.

I agree with you. However, there are many Sikhs who feel this pain. Since uploading this documentary the studies of 110 kids have been sponsored from the area. We have received funds from Australia for reconstruction of Gurudwara Sahib also. I urge you and all to come forward to help these poor brothers and sisters.

  • WHO CARE'S?

the sikh's are too busy building massive gurdware that cost million's than help the poor regardless of their faith.

other sikh's are too busy building big house's and driving big mercede's,oh yeah not forgetting the big koti's in the pind with the trademark safari parked outside to care.

while the poor keep donating at these big building's to keep the commitee's in there merc's.

    have i lied?

  • I agree with u ..let's start with ourselves first..
