Awh, I miss the fresh experience. If I could wipe my memory of Dark Souls I would, because the first playthrough was one of the best gaming experiences of my life. After that it just became too easy. New game plus, PvP, SL 1 playthrough. Hundreds of hours later and the game is a repetitive drag. But those first 200 hundred hours were fantastic. I hope they release another game like this, even harder with more bosses. And better online play.
i got a backstab off of him and got the helm, i think(if i recall correctly) that the only way you cant get the helm is if you throw the skull into the fire, having him kill himself, or sotin like that
ive killed this bastard 2 times and didnt get the boar helm.
also in the darkroot garden or whatever its called, i killed the black knight with the spear/halbred thing and he didnt drop the weapon, he gave me a blue titanite chunk.
If you go down the stairs behind and to the right of him, just lure him into it and attack him from the front, he cant get all the way down so if you dont have any arrows you can do that. he drops the shield after that kill too.
You know, if you had stayed on the top where the archers were and sniped the boar in the face with arrows, he would've dropped the helm. Thats what I did like an hour ago. And P.S, the helm is a really good equip!
@EpicNameBro One other cheap way to beat him: have him chase you to the stairs, right next to the fire. He'll be in a little cranny, and has to turn around. Walk off the stairs and plunge attack (from five feet off the ground). Done. No skulls and no arrows required. Ahahaha
Greatshield of Artorias cancels all status effects, so no poison, toxic, or bleed build up as long as you have it up, also has the highest stability (that I know of) great for bosses
@Bachinator009 You can do a Str / Dex hybrid if you want. I would recommend other builds more, but it is possible to use. Are you wanting PvP at SL 120 or just making a build for killing bosses?

Hmmm, this looks pretty nice Epic. One build I found interesting was Jerp's build from JerpdoesGaming. He uses a Lightning Ricard's Rapier +....something probably as high as a lightning weapon will go, and he also went straight Vit/End after getting to that stats for Ricard's and this triple shot crossbow. Thanks for the advice, and by the way great work with Dark Souls. You, Quelaag, MichelKobeyashi, and Mushinroja make this game a wonderful experience.
This game is great - the story is hidden in the item description but even without paying attention to any story it's so addictive. Although I'm not happy with some of things in the latest patch, namely that you get twice as many souls and that you can buy twinkling tritanite.
@adamleehays1994 i used a drop attack on him from the bridge, use one of the skulls to get him right under the bridge then use a drop, i think i killed him in one hit and then got the helmet. really easy
I find that the best way to counter spear soldiers is to kick them until they attack and then counter it (L2/LT then R1/RB). Kills them instantly if you have a good weapon, though you need to time it correctly to avoid getting penetrated (Oi! You at the back of the room! Stop laughing!).

Hey guys i've found a good way to get the Boar's Helmet . I tried it 10 times and i got it 6 times .Get on the small bridge and keep hitting its head/neck until its about to die , then go down and hit the head few times .
I would rather say the amount of dmg it deals to you or the time of killing it is important to get the helmet. I was luring him out of the gate where I was on the top narrow part shooting his ass with bow. That's how I killed him and I've got helmet. I didn't get any dmg.
3:05 if you defeat that black knight. and shoot the dragon from the top of those stairs. youll be rewarded with 10,000 souls and he'll reveal a bonfire at the end of that bridge! he was keeping it blocked but after one shot he'll dissapear!!! BTW thnx for the guide. its helpin my ass out
You can buy a repair kit from the vendor in undead burg (found by smashing the crates to reveal a stairway near the two spear undead) that way you can spend souls to repair weapons and armor at the bonfire. It costs 3,000 souls which is pricy for early on, but definitely worth it so that you can keep your rare weapons in shape
what i always do to backstab on the pikemen and most of the enemies is to always drop down my shield and circle around them closely cos they will start attacking when they know your shield is down.
If you guys don't know, there's a new awesome addition to the game, you can jump! To jump, you have to sprint (holding O/B) and quickly press O/B while sprinting. You can do this to easily jump small gaps and break many objects at once.
Also, for the helmet, it doesn't matter whether you backstab the boar or not, but there's a percentage chance (like in Demon's Souls) that you'll find items, and unlike Demon's Souls, you can increase it with Humanity, not Luck.
My experience with the boar was that you can gitch him near the stairs when you first come up to the spearmen, then just casually lead him into the fire. It will do a moderate amount of damage and he will be downed in 4-5. Also leading the dark knight to the fire works too.
Nice. You knew your Demon Souls pretty well. I like that. Even the World Tendency system and all the hidden loot too. Now that's a hardcore DS player.
I really hope DkS has the same kind of replayability and depth like that. I've just rung the church bell and probed a little bit of the Darkroot Gardens, so I'm hoping the claim that "the story doesn't even start until after you've rung the 2nd bell" is really true, cos the game's been reeeeaallly slow so far.
@JapanForSale Just like DS, there are TONS of hidden parts to the story that you can only see under certain conditions. The main story is straight forward, but the subplots are great. I can also tell already that every NG or NG+ is going to be different.
With the Master Key, you can clear areas in a lot of different orders... thus getting different items, etc. I went church->sewers, but many people went church -> forest, etc. I love DS, but DkS blows it out of the water in most ways.

The boar drops the helmet after you kill it. I got it the first time, luring the boar into bashing against the wall and shooting its butt (its only unarmored part) with bow and arrow.
@EpicNameBro Yeah I just got the helmet a few minutes ago and I was wondering when and how I broke the boars head piece. Literally got him in one back stab with the Drake Sword and was thinking I was SOL, when I saw he dropped something. Helmet is pretty damn nice.
@OsuRaven If it's anything like Demon's Souls, you simply push the D-Pad in the direction you set it to. Equip both sword and bow on the right for example and pressing Right on the D-Pad switches them.

Three reason you miss some back stabs is BC you've just recently or immediately let go of the block. If you block too long you'll just hit em in the back. I go it all the time. Let go of the block sooner and wait about a second or 2 longer behind them
if it wasnt for fact im a pyro i wuld get heal i prefer an attack over the heal = / and a good tattic for the spear is to not block and when u see him wind up an attack cuz it takes him a cool second to do it then u throw up your sheild and counter attack
I got the helmet without attacking the boar, I threw the lure skull into the fire and the pig just circled it and burned to death, got an item drop, got the helmet :)

Killed this pig by accident.. back stabbed it with drake sword when it came at me under the draw bridge, hit me slammed into wall got up as it turned around spammed attack (backstabberd it :D) ... and it dropped a Bad ass massive helmet..
@ohhjamesk If you are a cleric, you start the game with it. However, you can also buy it from a cleric relatively near the second bonfire (the one after the giant crow scene). talk a few times to him until he decides to sell miracles.

I'm actually puzzled, why were you using the axe, when you actually claimed the dragon sword, which is 200 dmg, the strength required is 16, but you can use it with both hands if you don't meet the requirement, still a lot better than the axe!?

drop rates are based off of your humanity till ten with the 1.05 patch so higher drop rate higher chance but still it is not ever guaranteed to drop.

@Bachinator009 Your starting class isn't important at all, but for PvP at 120, there are three common build types:
A straight build that focuses on ONE of the main stats (Str, Dex, Int, or Faith)
A hybrid that usually uses a weapon buff like Crystal Magic Weapon or Darkmoon Blade- (these builds use Srt/Int, Str/Faith, Dex/Int, or Dex/Faith)
An elemental build- meet the stat requirements for your weapon, and then put EVERYTHING in Vit and End.
Everyone needs some Vit and End.

The boar drops the helmet after you kill it. I got it the first time, luring the boar into bashing against the wall and shooting its butt (its only unarmored part) with bow and arrow.

Fought the boar with 3 characters, used both the fire method and the backstab = no helmet. That's right, 3 fights, 0 drops.

Just a note for everyone who is thinking there is a trick to getting the helmet... the helmet appears to be a random drop.

@EpicNameBro Yeah I just got the helmet a few minutes ago and I was wondering when and how I broke the boars head piece. Literally got him in one back stab with the Drake Sword and was thinking I was SOL, when I saw he dropped something. Helmet is pretty damn nice.

Is there a trick to switching from your main weapon to your bow? When you do it it seems very fast how exactly do you switch?

@OsuRaven If it's anything like Demon's Souls, you simply push the D-Pad in the direction you set it to. Equip both sword and bow on the right for example and pressing Right on the D-Pad switches them.

Make the boar die in the fire to get the helm!!!!!!!! Just get behind it and let him charge you.. roll out at the last sec.. he'll die a fiery death.. helm looks sick

Three reason you miss some back stabs is BC you've just recently or immediately let go of the block. If you block too long you'll just hit em in the back. I go it all the time. Let go of the block sooner and wait about a second or 2 longer behind them

if it wasnt for fact im a pyro i wuld get heal i prefer an attack over the heal = / and a good tattic for the spear is to not block and when u see him wind up an attack cuz it takes him a cool second to do it then u throw up your sheild and counter attack

I got the helmet without attacking the boar, I threw the lure skull into the fire and the pig just circled it and burned to death, got an item drop, got the helmet :)

@MorgonCB i didn't use the skull, but i stood near the fire and wait for the boar to charge at me before rolling out. then just circle around the circle around the fire and the boar will follow u. helm dropped

Killed this pig by accident.. back stabbed it with drake sword when it came at me under the draw bridge, hit me slammed into wall got up as it turned around spammed attack (backstabberd it :D) ... and it dropped a Bad ass massive helmet..

@ohhjamesk If you are a cleric, you start the game with it. However, you can also buy it from a cleric relatively near the second bonfire (the one after the giant crow scene). talk a few times to him until he decides to sell miracles.

I'm actually puzzled, why were you using the axe, when you actually claimed the dragon sword, which is 200 dmg, the strength required is 16, but you can use it with both hands if you don't meet the requirement, still a lot better than the axe!?

@mhduckman You buy it, for 10,000 souls, but it has limited used, like 14. So it's not a good idea to spend it frivolously.
