Archaeology has proven the historical context for the old testament, though nothing can prove any of the stories are real, the vast majority of the stories that are in the bible are rehashed versions of Sumerian ones. Sumerian versions of a flood story very similar to that of Noah have been found that predate the bible by many centuries. The bible is an interesting historical document though much of its content is not original and is ostensibly based on works of literature that came before it.
