Wow. Just seeing something like this throws me back to my early childhood. I wasn't even born until mid-1990, but just seeing this... Wow what a nostalgia trip...
@derekkozinski By the looks of it, he used a video capture card. I also have one. They're not too expensive, but they usually require a desktop computer since they're added onto the motherboard (though some are also available as USB 2.0.
I have a few vids like this of us macking on this girl while skateboarding.. last time I checked my tape was still good, that was about 5 years ago, now to transfer like you did.. it's from around 1988 too.. fun !!! The thing about these new modified PXL's is you lose that big ZIIPP noise everytime you stop the recording. hahah
Oh, this is eleven kinds of awesome. The video itself reminds me so much of just hanging out with my own friends back in the '80s, and the music somehow just fits the mood perfectly. And it's all in wonderfully grainy PXLvision, which makes it seem even more like a memory that's been fished out of a dusty corner of the brain. Bravo!
I wish I could find me one of them cameras that record onto a regular cassette tape. How does that work? Do they record sound too? and does the tape still run at a regular speed?
you can buy them on ebay cheap as is, some of have been modded / circuit bent and sell for $400. These output on RCA so you can record on a digital medium rather than cassette. I think they run a little faster than cassette speed... I don't think sound is record, can't remember. A friend has had mine for about 10 years :(
can you use any kind of audio cassettes?
BijanRamezani 2 months ago
@BijanRamezani Yes, but the video and audio quality is best when Hi-Bias tapes are used (Regular tapes have a staticky picture, and buzzing audio.)

Oh yes, and I have my own PXL 2000 as well. :D

If you record video to a tape with this camcorder then play it back in a regular tape deck what do you hear?
Lachlant1984 10 months ago
@Lachlant1984 You would hear a very bad quality audio track in super slow motion.

was the music actually recorded on the tape by the PXL2000?

I love old "home movies" on any format. The grainy nature of the format used to make these just adds to the fun.

I don't know why, but I love old home videos. And everytime I see PixelVision cameras, I think of Slacker.

This camera would go well in a sci-fi film. The picture hops just complete it.

why not if we had video tapes ?

because the actual bandwidth on a cassette tape is so limited.

They do record sound, although the running tape kind of gives it a scratchy sound. I loved that thing. It sits on a shelf in my bar.

the tape run VERY fast, maybe 5-8X normal speed? and records best with typeII (chrome tape)
