  • Either two sad people, or they missed the wrong button.

  • this always reminds me of lake winderemmere in 1972, me and my palls caught about 4 buses to get there from Leeds, this was been played in the pubs at the time, we had nowhere to sleep except bus shelters and peoples garages, police kept moving us on and cos we were all long hiared hippies. still, i love this song, want it played at my funeral.

  • 70's - musically, the last great decade. Come to think of it, same for TV and Movies too!

  • Great, I have been a fan of folk rock for more years than I can count, possibly since 1970, and this is the first time I 've been on this site thanks to Tempest

  • Fallen in love with this song all over again, fantastic lyrics, someone must have been a huge Poe fan, the lyrics just sum up Poe's writing and Usher.

  • Awesome!! Marty Craggs still gigs in the Newcastle area with 'The Happy Cats' - check their website for dates:- thehappycats(dot)com

  • One of the most romantic and ethereal songs ever recorded .Genius!

  • ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAV GROUPS, AND SONG, WELL PRESENTED. 10 OUT OF 10 FOR THIS ONE MY FRIEND.

  • Is the flute and guitar intro played here part of the original studio track??? I only ask because the BBC live sessions I have on CD do not feature a prolonged intro with flute. I happen to love it!!! very haunting way to lead in.

  • First single I ever bought - first band I ever saw live, Had a pint with the lads before the gig. Wouldn't happen with todays bands.

  • One of those songs you grow up with and which stays with you your whole life, and there aren't many of those.

  • Two original members here: Ray Laidlaw (drums) and Rod Clements (songwriter and bass then - mandolin and guitar now). Plus Marty Craggs who's been in the band since the 1980s (lead vocal here); Billy Mitchell (ex-Jack The Lad); Dave Denholm (guitar - Alan Hull's son-in-law!); and Ian Thompson (bass).

Miss the old guys - Simon brews beer, Jacka paints (pictures of) buses and we all miss Hully, but time rolls on and the lads are rollin' just fine here. It's all about the music.

  • Who are the band members here?

  • Don't recognise many old band members in this video but it's excellent!

  • If anything this version is even better than the original. Goes to show, musicians could play it live in those days, hence they can still do it. Well done lads!

  • WoW! Just WoW! No, not just WoW, this song is legendary in my head and in actuality. These guys are loved by millions, and justifiably so.

  • still my favourite ever single and this is a great version..

  • Crap audience, a bunch of stiffs!!

  • I have been listenng to this track since it was recorded (yes, I am that old) and I really like this version. Great work from a great bunch of proper musicians. Wish there were a few more left.

  • It's a classic.....

  • @americangeordie1 Not for you, for them!

  • @americangeordie1 Who is your interpreter lol?

  • its in the hair.

  • what a great version of one of the most haunting records ever made cant stop playing it

  • I have a problem with rock bands who have short hair

  • @noproblem53

    They're not a rock band!

  • It seems strange at first seeing this song without Alan Hull and Jacka at the front. I never saw the post Alan Hull iteration of the band, but this is a really good version of a classic. Like it.

  • Always loved this song.....the video is beautifully done; takes me away............

  • Sad yes, but Marty Craggs actually sings it better. The flute is a wonderful, haunting addition.

  • So sad not to hear Alan Hull's voice singing it!

  • great posting my friend, great song well performed by the boys, and fantastic vidio, 10 out of 10 for this one.

  • classic song, miss their christmas shows at Newcastle city Hall

  • A fine rendition, up there with the original.

  • Great

  • great A++

  • Ah... se meu Brasil fosse assim.... os verdadeiros talento valorizados!!!

  • Man can't you just hear the changes over the years. This band is now tight as - well - real tight....

  • Great song - named my daughter Eleanor because of it! saw them live at York Uni crica 1982

  • really like this

  • Very nice, I've never heard this song before, thank you. Peace.

  • beautiful and eternal.....one of my all time favourites

  • Classic, Thanks for this Wayne

  • just great like the groundhogs

  • i wish i had seen this band but i saw twats like gary moore who treats is fans like shit and was useing a back tape the last time i saw him

  • thought you might like this daddy,as we say in the rave circles nuff respect! Innit.Poor grammer i know but ive not sent you the fog on the tyne with gazza (well not yet)

  • I absolutely love this song. Who is the singer? What a great group.

  • The singer's Marty Craggs. He joined the group in the 1980s and took a bigger role in the 90s after Ray Jackson left.

When Alan Hull died in 1995, Billy Mitchell joined the group as front man, and they split most of Alan's songs between them. Marty took Lady Eleanor :)
