2 Quick Question, I am a mobile DJ and really need to know!
- Do I connect my amplifier directly to the Pioneer Midi controller? And if yes, I use DMX Cables for good sound quality and did not see any DMX input on the Pioneer controller, how do I make the connection?
- Is it possible to plug in a hybrate midi keyboard controller using logic on one of the DDJ T1 channels for live performing?
Im a bit confused.. Will this controller work with any version of Traktor?
I mean, if I bought Traktor Scratch Pro 2 today and then in a week buy the controller.
Will I be able to use the controller with the same Traktor Scratch Pro which i've bought or is it needed to use the traktor that comes with controller?
I just upgraded to the Traktor Pro Pioneer edition for version 2. If you want to upgrade to Traktor Pro 2 it costs around $129 USD. You don't have to pay full price. You can do 4 decks on the T1, but I found it easier to just turn the other two decks into sample decks, but that is just my style and not necessarily a limitation of software or hardware.
@allexanderf I just recently got the T1. I like it. My only complaint is more directed at Traktor. It doesn't do full kill when you have your hi, mid, or low rotated full left. I never had this problem with the NS7, and having perused the forums I'm not the only Traktor user complaining about this. That said. You can bind full kills to your keyboard, but for me I view this as a major pain the behind particularly when Pioneer market the T1 and S1 as not needing to touch your keyboard.
@WodensRaven thx I got to the ddj t1 yesterday and it's ok anyway from serato to traktor it is a big difference serato is better ... now I prepeare to go to New Zeeland
if i dont have RCA speakers and i am using my computer, and i dont have money to get speakers but i do have them for my pc, is there a cable where i can use a RCA to the computer so i got the sound coming from my computer please write back, thanks (:
this set of videos are excellent im just a starter dj and just getting into it and i have learned alot of these videos this is not just a video advertising the ddj-t1 but it is also a good video to watch if you just want to generally learn about djing on cdj's or digital controllers great vid
@ellaskins I am really encouraged to get this piece of equipment. Could you honestly tell my does the sound ever skip? On a setup with MacBook Pro of course. Thank you for a quick answer.
question: i know this ships with just the standard traktor...will there be an upgrade (free) available to traktor pro 2 or whichever newest traktor was just put on the market. and also, for the ddj s1, do you foresee there being an upgrade in the future for 4 decks instead of 2? i only say this because i find it a little odd that numark's ns6 is with serato itch as well and has 4 decks.
i used to own a midi controller, then pioneers CDJ and now technics with serato and i'm never turning back. No matter how many 19031813's of effects this can offer me and how much easier it is nothing beats mixing on turntables and it's just much more fun. Plus people that use traktor even if they say they won't they'll use the sync function, if not it's just a case how good they are at pressing play in time and having the bpm pre set correctly. They say it's to have more time with effects....
Yeah agreed with other comments here too many effects ruin the music, and a good decent mix doesn't require all that to sound good at all.
I've just invested in some technics 1210s, serato sl3 and It's my favourite way to mix, just tune to tune and keep it simple.
I've owned pioneer CDJ and i've owned MIDI controllers and nothing compares to wax to me. I'm no vinyl purist either, i just think the abiltiy to do all these extra novelties is bullshit.
@GingerGAMER7 you can still learn to beat match. the 'pitch faders' wont be accurate at all, but you would be hitting sync any way. allowing you to map those now useless faders for something like the dry/wet for your effects.
Prat III> you should use a mosue/wireless mouse etc, for naving around the
screen plugs right into the usb port lol, having said that, Hercules lets you scroll around in VDJ using the arrow Nav buttons right on the console so you can
brows to folders Dir's add to play lists, load up decks all via the nav controls on
the console there is a Shift control for different Efx also you can record your
Dj sets & edit them later if need be, for $200 bux you cant beat it.
Part II> aux input, it also dose time code for records...Also >Iamgreataish, you have to get creative in the DJ world, if you dont you may get left behind, Efx is part of djing showning not only that you can DJ but it also shows off your skills. Dj~Ez.
Part 1> I think I'll stick with my Hercules Mk 4 mixer its loads smaller as i can pop it in to the laptop bag, I am running the latested VDJ, it has midi mapping, Eq's, and a bunch of Efx, create a play list, beat mach, time pitch, create cue points, even manual beat match, you can also add audio inputs EG part II >
Thank god people still want to beat match , i only say that because an awful lot of people seem to just want to synch all the time , i've tried to keep traditional and not synch, but that's the way its going.. would be better with cdj 1000 platters it looks too much like 400's for me.
hi jon, im aspiring to become a DJ and have been following your recent videos. however with your huge video list, could you direct me to a playlist that would help me get started on the basics of DJ-ing? THANKS :D
@omidr : It would be better to buy the S1 instead if you wanted to use Serato. ITCH does have 4 Deck control with some units (Xone:DX for example) but I don't think you can buy ITCH on its own, so you would be left with SSL which is still only 2 decks (I believe).
@omidr just get the serato version. either way you couldnt use the t1 with serato (itch) since itch needs specific controllers to actually work. the t1 is not one of them. however, the t1 should work with, for example, virtual dj. but i dont know why you would use that if you get traktor along with the controller
@bigdima3 : One word Pioneer. Actually it's a bit more than that. Pioneer will have used different quality circuitry in the DDJ units than other Manufacturers. You can see that the buttons are now flimsy and rubbery. So the higher pricing is a combination of components and Brand image.
@VVooDz It is understandable. But, even when considering high class hardware components, software configuration etc, DDJs are still expensive. So i guess brand image is the main reason.
@bigdima3 : I'm not a big fan of Pioneer because I feel there is an excessive premium set against the product. Maybe that's a bit rich coming from me who uses a Xone:92 a 2 Xone:1Ds. But I do think Allen & Heath's pricing comes from the fact that they're fraction of the size of Pioneer and thus the lack of synergies inflates the price.
Still do not understand why you would need a CD system to play MP3. TSP was meant to help vinyl DJs. There are controllers already that control these programs... what benefit does having the time coded CD and other fail points in the mix?
@Cliffraves : When mixing there isn't enough room in the sound spectrum for 2 or 4 tracks playing at once. You you have to use subtle Eqing to make room for the bits you are mixing and what you want the listener to hear.
@cgountanis good effects used correctly can actually help with mixing. effects are not just meant to be used during the tune. the 3 band eq again, used correctly can make the difference between a standard mix and a flawless mix. the eq again, can also add weight to your mix. these are all tools for a dj to use. and as they say, "the right tool for the right job" experience is a great tool for determining when and where to use effects.
@dadge35 Not that complicated really. Mix new song with bass down on 32, switch bass to new on beat on 32 and cut out first song at 32. You are talking playing MP3s here. Not like you gona bust a Q Bert in this BIATCH.
@cgountanis you're example would be what i would call a standard mix. the mids are just as important when eq mixing. try paying a trance set with 3 minute transitions. dropping the bass after 32 beats will make you look/sound bad. i don't understand you last comment. playing mp3 files means you can't scratch? i've seen q-bert videos where he's actually using digital media.
@cgountanis agree with you on the effects, but eq tweaking is just that: tweaking. If you do it properly your transitions can sound a lot better (thinking of double drops mainly here)
Having a controller on top of your laptop is so impractical, I can tell from experience. 09:12 displays a bit what I mean. That, plus the huge size of this controller doesn't really make me wanna use it,let alone buy it.
@HRP02 It's meant so you can choose not to use the keyboard, but you can remove the stands from the controller and have it level with the table and add a stand for the laptop to raise it. Just a matter of preference.
@HRP02 you can choose to position your laptop somewhere else in your setup if you choose, but once your setting have been set on Traktor, you wont need to touch the keyboard. so makes scene to dock in underneath. the size of the controller is to ensure high quality performance on the industry standard club dj setup. no small fiddly control's here
@ellaskins I find myself constantly using the keyboard to search for tracks either by name or by using keywords that I set up in the comment field of the ID3 tag. Using keyboard for searching tracks is essential for digital DJing with a laptop and is a huge advantage over using CDs. I think the thought of designing a controller so that you can put the laptop underneath and hide the keyboard and mouse is... in plain words stupid...
sup guys. nice vid. i'm planning on moving to pioneer for my digital solution. initially, i was going to go for the cdj900's. this system looks to be just as good. as an experienced DJ but a midi novice, which system would you recommend and why? the Pioneer DDJ-T1 looks so promising though. and at a fraction of the price of a single cdj900.
@cgountanis thanks for your answer but i think you'll find that DJing is more than just playing some random mp3's. but if it were the case, i don't think i'd spend my money on hardware that restricts the freedom that normal mp3 players provide.
@dadge35 Numark NS7, Pioneer DDJ-T1 and DDJ-S1 are the biggest MIDI-controllers, size-wise. All of them are good, it's just the software and DJ style that determine what you want to get (Traktor, Serato, Itch, etc.)
@oXoAeternooXo i think if i were to but one of these items, i would opt for the T1 simply because of the 4 deck option. i'd hardly ever take full advantage of it. but i'd rather have something and not need it, than need something and not have. :)
@dadge35 you can map any midi controller to do anything. so my little numark total control can control 4 decks, cue points, effects, basic functions, and scrolling/ track search
@dadge35 : If you're using 1200's ATM then I'd recommend either Serato Scratch Live or Traktor Scratch Pro. Then just add a set of Novation Dicers. You'll find the transition amazingly easy, you'll still retain than vinyl feel but the Dicers will enhance your sets Ten-fold.
@dadge35 head over to the djtechtools . com forums and ask. plenty of guys willing to help. just post your budget and what you know already, we can try and find a set up for you :)
@RazorRomance00 the dude asked a question, i pointed him where he can go to get a better answer than youtube. chill. its not even like it was spam. look up ean golden on here, hes the one that runs the site. brilliant controllerist.
@kirisakiflow i disagree. some people have never seen a dj set up before. this could be the first video they look at about the subject. so, although J's usual viewers have seen/heard this all before. there's still some viewers who haven't.

@dadge35 Not that complicated really. Mix new song with bass down on 32, switch bass to new on beat on 32 and cut out first song at 32. You are talking playing MP3s here. Not like you gona bust a Q Bert in this BIATCH.
cgountanis 9 months ago
@cgountanis you're example would be what i would call a standard mix. the mids are just as important when eq mixing. try paying a trance set with 3 minute transitions. dropping the bass after 32 beats will make you look/sound bad. i don't understand you last comment. playing mp3 files means you can't scratch? i've seen q-bert videos where he's actually using digital media.

@cgountanis If done right it can sound good. It's just when it's overdone that it starts to get annoying.

@alloriginal true.. to much efects end cut's kill's it..
jigibao 9 months ago
@cgountanis agree with you on the effects, but eq tweaking is just that: tweaking. If you do it properly your transitions can sound a lot better (thinking of double drops mainly here)

Is possible to set-up traktor for 3-band EQ with FULL kill ? it is bothering my for almost for 2 years?
harizhent 9 months ago
Having a controller on top of your laptop is so impractical, I can tell from experience. 09:12 displays a bit what I mean. That, plus the huge size of this controller doesn't really make me wanna use it,let alone buy it.
HRP02 9 months ago
@HRP02 It's meant so you can choose not to use the keyboard, but you can remove the stands from the controller and have it level with the table and add a stand for the laptop to raise it. Just a matter of preference.
oXoAeternooXo 9 months ago
@HRP02 you can choose to position your laptop somewhere else in your setup if you choose, but once your setting have been set on Traktor, you wont need to touch the keyboard. so makes scene to dock in underneath. the size of the controller is to ensure high quality performance on the industry standard club dj setup. no small fiddly control's here
ellaskins 9 months ago 8
@ellaskins I find myself constantly using the keyboard to search for tracks either by name or by using keywords that I set up in the comment field of the ID3 tag. Using keyboard for searching tracks is essential for digital DJing with a laptop and is a huge advantage over using CDs. I think the thought of designing a controller so that you can put the laptop underneath and hide the keyboard and mouse is... in plain words stupid...

sup guys. nice vid. i'm planning on moving to pioneer for my digital solution. initially, i was going to go for the cdj900's. this system looks to be just as good. as an experienced DJ but a midi novice, which system would you recommend and why? the Pioneer DDJ-T1 looks so promising though. and at a fraction of the price of a single cdj900.
dadge35 9 months ago
@dadge35 Just get an iPod.
cgountanis 9 months ago
@cgountanis thanks for your answer but i think you'll find that DJing is more than just playing some random mp3's. but if it were the case, i don't think i'd spend my money on hardware that restricts the freedom that normal mp3 players provide.
dadge35 9 months ago
@dadge35 Numark NS7, Pioneer DDJ-T1 and DDJ-S1 are the biggest MIDI-controllers, size-wise. All of them are good, it's just the software and DJ style that determine what you want to get (Traktor, Serato, Itch, etc.)
oXoAeternooXo 9 months ago
@oXoAeternooXo i think if i were to but one of these items, i would opt for the T1 simply because of the 4 deck option. i'd hardly ever take full advantage of it. but i'd rather have something and not need it, than need something and not have. :)
dadge35 9 months ago
@dadge35 In that case, I'd rather get the S1. I like the black finish and the different layout. That's just me, though ;)
oXoAeternooXo 9 months ago
@dadge35 you can map any midi controller to do anything. so my little numark total control can control 4 decks, cue points, effects, basic functions, and scrolling/ track search
DJtheory28 9 months ago
@dadge35 : If you're using 1200's ATM then I'd recommend either Serato Scratch Live or Traktor Scratch Pro. Then just add a set of Novation Dicers. You'll find the transition amazingly easy, you'll still retain than vinyl feel but the Dicers will enhance your sets Ten-fold.

This representative dude is kinda boring. Yes, we know DJ setups usually consists of 2 players and a mixer.............
kirisakiflow 9 months ago
@kirisakiflow i disagree. some people have never seen a dj set up before. this could be the first video they look at about the subject. so, although J's usual viewers have seen/heard this all before. there's still some viewers who haven't.

Why the hell do you need a vinyl coding system for CD? At that point you might as well just use 1200's.
