Could any of you seasoned listeners give some feedback on Obituary's new CDs (from Frozen in Time to current)? One of my very first Death Metal CDs was Slowly We Rot, and I own every CD since then, except for the newest one. I would like to know if anyone thinks the new stuff is of the same caliber as the old stuff. Does anyone feel they are going down the wrong road?

I think their earliest stuff is the best, even now, but they have created their OWN sound, no one else is like obituary, therefore they are allowed to do as they way with their unique sound.

I wish they would try to compete with their younger selves though.

Thanks a lot for the response. I absolutely agree that Obituary is completely unique. While I think their old stuff was some of the heaviest Death Metal ever written, this "new" sound is certainly not contrived.  I think this newer style is reminiscent of the era they began starting with World Demise. They are still uniquely Obituary, but I wouldn't mind their trying to make a throwback to their first two CDs.
