  • I remember the first time i heard this song, it was the winter of 1967.

Little did i know that it would it would be immortal........superb.

  • Yepp - great sound from my youth - thx... ;-)

  • still making the world a better place! :-)) rule Brittania!

  • just love him.....

  • Random observation I know, but this show was played on this day precisely 18 years ago, which means this was the night before Steve Marriot died.

Apologies for randomness. :P Just something I realised.

  • Hi Yes the first we knew of Steve Marriot's tragic death was when we came back through London airport & saw the news on the front page of the Sunday papers. Cor don't timer fly 18years gone . it don't seem possible.

  • @DrummerFreak04:

Thank you for bringing to our attention Mr Steve Marriot. YouTubers everywhere will thank you.

He was the Guitarist / Vocalist for the Small Faces and Humble Pie (?isthisrite?). Check out "All or Nothing" by the Small Faces.

Back to Everlasting Love: Is there a video of the song filmed at the time? Links please.

  • Hi everybody, just so u know my name is Steven ellis. Im not this steven ellis but i am also in a rock band named rage and fire

  • Hi Steven Ellis Thanks for the msg. just don't go around singing Everlasting Love "lol" as over the Years Steve (this Steve Ellis ) has had quite a few people impersonating him which on a couple of occasions has caused him a couple of Problems .Any How Good Luck with your Band !! "Rage and Fire" Regards Mel amps-n-bits.

  • Brilliant live version of this awesome song. Lovin' it.

If you haven't heard it, there's a shorter (unextended) but also smashing live version on the "Edinburgh Live '95" record.

  • Bounding onto the stage , hard to believe that he wasnt capable of walking from 1980 to 1988 . He had a horrific accident in 1979 when he was working in a dockyard . A forklift truck smashed his feet to pieces and it took 8 years of operations and recovery before he could walk again.

  • Yep! I visited Steve EVERY single day of the months that he was in Southlands Hospital. That was a travesty as we had been rehearsing a new band The Flyboys, re-named The Steve Ellis Band. With all New Original material & were about ready to gig. If You go to myspace & search for tongecaptainjoneslives See the Ozzy Garvey Tribute Pictures you will see a picture taken in my studio not long before Steve's accident. I have more pics & recordings of the band & may do another myspace Regards Mel

  • yes! i heard this on the tv i think and was shocked, good to hear he improved so much..

  • Being a Yank, surprised at this version, for the "first time" 40 years later!

Ellis' version, esp.the early versions is IMHO equal to & in many areas a better cover. Orchestration spot on. Ellis has a lot of energy in the clips. Think the reason it didn't make it here in U.S., it is SO close Knight's version. Love it, & will ask our local dj to play on the Request show. And thks to the bloke who recreated the TV version! Put mike next to the TV speaker! Something WE would have done back then!

  • Hi ampsnbits-is love affair the original singer of everlasting love? When I was young I heard a version which is faster but I don't remember the person's name, that's why I am wondering if love affair is the one.

  • Hi cheungnan8, Yes Steve Ellis was /is the original "Love Affair" singer from all thise years ago! Regards Mel

  • But Robert Knight recorded the US original of Everlasting Love that Love Affair covered. It's also on Youtube.

  • Hi chess321-thank you for pointing that out, I checked out Robert Knight, I like his version he has a louder & stronger voice. Take care.

  • Depends what you call "the original singer"? This song was written by American guitarist Mac Gayden (finished by his colleague Buzz Cason). The original version was by a singer called Robert Knight in 1967 & it was a small US hit. Late 1968 the Love Affair version came out on CBS records & was a huge European hit. Gayden played in bands like Area Code 615 & Barefoot Jerry and is still active. This song has been a hit in 5 or 6 different versions so which version do you remember? Gloria Estefan?

  • Hi yes Steve Ellis is the Original Singer of the Original Love Affair & the singer on all of the Original Love Affair Chart Hit Singles and Albums of the 60's & early 70's there is only One Steve Ellis & that's Him !! thanks for the Comment Mel (amps-n-bits)

  • Hi Tracyfulford we were the 5th band on followed by the Swinging Blue Jeans. The show was opened by (I think!)either Eddie Floyd or Percy Sledge a dutch band called T-Set, The Box Tops, The Tremeloes. Chubby Checker & a few more acts that I can't think of their names Right Now! Regards Mel

  • Hi Mel

Are you a memeber of Love Affair ??

  • the woman at 4.30 in the green, black n red jacket aint gonna join in steve, forget it. hes like an avangelist.

  • Well tracyfulford You are obviously as musical & intelligent as a Flying Rubber Mallet! This was a Live show in front of about 20,000 People. Back in 1991! & you pick out one woman that was deliberately standing like a statue each time the camera panned past her. I know as she was right in front of me, dancing most of the time! The original of this vid is on VHS It was my first attempt to convert VHS to digital (sorry for loss of picture & sound quality) At Least I uploaded it here on Youtube

  • he might be a great mate and this song sold a few units but that is as flat as a pancake, and that keyboard sound is a bontempi if ever i heard one. and the audience is finding it hard to contain itself, whata frontman!

  • In addition to my previous reply to

tracyfulford Steve Ellis Is & always will be a Great Vocalist & a Great Fontman So Tracy what band do you Front? Have you sold as many millions of records as Steve? I doubt it !! Oh & by the way How do I know about Steve? & How do I know about the Woman in the Green Jacket deliberately Standing like a statue? well I am the Guitarist in the Black Suit on Steves Left asn she was right in front of Me! BTW It was a Great Gig, Great On Stage & Outfront sound !!

  • Can you tell me when they are coming to Holland, this is still my favorite band,Thank you

  • Have you got the version he did with the cast of Casualty for Children in Need? I would love to see it. The actress who sang it in the programme did a great job on it but surprisingly has never been seen since.

  • Hi Sorry no I am afraid that I don't have the version he did with the cast of Casualty for Children in Need. I do have quite a few more of the live gigs that we did but they are all still on VHS format But I will get to transfer a few more of them & put them up sometime Best Regards Mel

  • I agree theres nothing wrong with his voice,if you ask me this is a difficult song to sing and he pulls of great.

  • it's a concert....not a studio.

  • Sorry to say this mate! but you obviously don't have a Musical Bone in your Body??. Not Only was I in this band with Steve He has been a Long time mate of Mine for Years! He Still has a Great, Great!! Voice!! Go And See him Live as the many many thousand did at this show in Belgium as you can see most were on their feet Enjoying Every Moment (I Rest My Case) Regards Mel

  • Bloody awful singer (give me Robert Knight anyday)
