Its simple - gays are a minority the majority can unite against and oppress. The cant unite against liars e.g. because everyone lies. They need a "sin" that most ppl wouldnt ever do that way they can set themselves up as holier than the few gays.
In the words of Hitler "The efficiency of the truly national leader consists primarily in preventing the division of the attention of a people, and always in concentrating it on a single enemy"
Many religious people are ignorant, intolerant and biggoted. They take what they want out of the bible and use it to justify their already corrupt beliefs.
This is why religion needs to be stamped out in all of its forms. Then we can see these people for what they really are since they won't have some pathetic book to hide behind.
I think they're so adamant because it is the very last public institution that has some overlapping magisteria with religious tradition. It is christianity's version of The Battle of Little Bighorn, except marriage (unlike Col. Custer) has managed to survive. Religious leaders know that when religion becomes 100% irrelevant to marriage, they will have lost their last man in the fight. Consequently, the godless heathens can live without ever needing religious permission for anything.
To all who is against homosexuality. We all have reproductive parts to REPRODUCE...we all have a heart to love. A penis and a vagina is solely for making babies they have no emotions in them. We love with our heart and soul so starting using your hearts and souls and love one another. Yes it is impossible for a man to impregnate a man but why can't he love him? Or for a woman to love another woman?
Most of us find 2 guys kissing each other a bit disgusting, now 2 girls making out, that's just AWESOME :D. Some of us just see that it as their right, others think that it's inappropriate and use their " Holy Book " to justify their views.
There are plenty of atheists homophobes, you don't need a fictitious book to justify your irrational hatred, you don't need to justify it at all.
@AinEstonia it sounds like homophobia is related back to a culturally created sense of masculinity that some think is violated when two men love each other. wtf?
i disagree about having to justify. you should have to justify your hatred, that's what makes it rational. needless to say, it is irational to have an irational fear
You won't have Pat Robertsons preaching about punishing ppl for violating laws about mixing linens etc, because they consider those laws to be done away with or nailed to the cross & they don't have to keep them- THAT IS WHY Christians do NOT keep the Sabbath. They change what they want to change & enforce what they want.
While homosexual behavior carries a death sentence in the law, orientation or desire did not- just the sex act. But Paul condemns it in the NT, & they certainly follow Paul.
Why don't they care about other issues? Because mixing crops isn't (I claim) seen as disgusting by anyone. Now, the thought of two men kissing and performing anal sex? Yeah, I find it pretty icky. I don't find the male body particularly appealing. Does this mean I am anti-gay? Fuck no. But something disgusting is easily transformed into something immoral. It plays off (dare I say) innate reactions to things. And whomever is responsibly for preaching the hate should be ashamed of themselves.
I find thoughts and images of someone putting cheez whiz on their spaghetti to be absolutely disgusting!! Therefore, it is an abomination and morally wrong!!
Ummm, no. I would suggest re-reading what I wrong. As far as I am claiming anything it is that human beings have innate mechanisms that illicit feelings of unease or disgust. The idea of me eating my own feces is an example. Now, as a heterosexual male I don't find the thought of two men having sex all that appealing. (not in anyway comparing it to eating poop - lulz). And it's easy to go from feels of disgust (about anything) to moral subjectivism.
@BuBBaGump014 well that's exactly what I thought you said the last comment. it sounds to me like you are suggesting that straight people have a natural disgust of homosexuals and that disgust is what leads people to be homophobic. If that were true it would explain why so many people hate the gays. maybe we need a larger forum for this discussion?
Well, no, what you are proposing suggests too much. If what you say is the case then (nearly) EVERY heterosexual would be disgusted by homosexuals. Think of disgust the same as fear. People don't have innate fears of THINGS, but we do have the capacity to fear what we are conditioned to fear. And yes, the process of conditioning is easier when it's things like heights, small spaces, and even snakes. Think of if like this: if everyone was bisexual, would there be a problem?
@NegativeNick We're not saying that the Bible teaches us to be "disgusted" by gays, but rather a natural "feeling" (conscience if you will) you get when something isn't right. It doesn't matter if you're religious or not, the fact is HOMOSEXUALS CANNOT REPRODUCE!!! Therefore there is nothing right about it. It's wrong, for if we were all "homosexuals" we would lead to the extinction of humankind in a matter of years.
@lmbluke So, do you consider heterosexual couples that have no intentions to get kids wrong ? Do you consider condoms to be wrong ? We don't go running around and getting every chick we can our hands on pregnant. Sex in these times isn't as much about reproduction as it is about connecting and getting satisfied.
@AinEstonia & @Biocarbs, your both taking what I said out of context. It's impossible for a woman to in pregnant a woman, and a man to in pregnant a man. End of story. Age, fertility, condoms, etc...are irrelevant, and steer mt point off course.
@lmbluke you are really backing your argument with "the fact is HOMOSEXUALS CANNOT REPRODUCE!!"? Well, neither can heterosexual couples who are infertile. Does that make it wrong for them to be together? Elderly couples can't reproduce. Should they not be allowed to get married past menopause? Obviously not.
@lmbluke That should not be considered, lets say the Earth had a council and brought to the councils attention was the fact we might face possible over-population of the earth and its food and water resources, that almighty council might of earth might want people to not reproduce. Like eating, we eat bad stuff, empty calories that are bad for us, to get us by, no nutrition value, like saying no use for it, but we still do it..
@lmbluke yes, but if everyone had children the earth would be even more over populated than what it already is. Plus, lots of people cannot have children. They are not banned from being married, or executed.
@lmbluke Your logic suggests that we should also kill out those who are sterile, because they can't reproduce. Of course the bible doesn't say to be disgusted- but the religious idiots see it that way.
Ah, "IF WE WERE ALL GAY WE'D BE DEAD!@" Well:
1. If everyone were to become gay, it'd already happen by now. Nothing stops it, time won't change it either.
2. There's other ways to reproduce humanity than a man and women fu*****.
Stop defending these morons rallying up a genocide, pathetic.
Just wanted to say that your question/statement shows you have the critical thinking skills and historical and cultural knowledge of a child. "Can someone explain why I don't know anything. Thanks"
pat robertson will say whatever comes to his mind. i think when hurricane katrina happened, he compared the meteorological photo of the storm to an unborn fetus and said this happened because of abortion.
This question is so logical that there is no religious answer for it. I would almost consider it rhetorical. Why do people nitpick obscure 2000 year old text for a reason to get furious at homosexuality? Because, they fear what they do not understand. Such is life.
They're not gonna protest things like polyester because it's inconvenient. It's much easier to be self-righteous about something you don't do yourself (or if you're a priest, something you do secretly...)
Because they use the Bible to reinforce their own prejudices. They're grossed out by gay sex, so they cherry pick a verse from a book in the Bible that is generally disregarded as being part of the "Old Covenant" and treat it like it's absolute truth.
It's a scapegoat, in the same way abortion is a scapegoat. Ever wonder why a bunch of middleclass white people give such a shit about issues that don't affect them (gay marriage, abortion, immigration), it's to separate people and sway opinion with ease. You're not gay, so you don't care, you'll buy anything the paster says. But suddenly the paster is telling you to donate more to the church to help the poor while dressed to the nines and living in a mansion, suddenly that mindless sway counts.
@Anthama I'm with you on the scape goating thing but i'm not sure if that explains why they go after the gays and not the double linen wearers. I think Pokerslut made a good point when he said that it would be TOO divisive, they need something on the border that will stir up support but not alienate a large portion of their flock.
It's pretty clear to me that religion needs divisive issues in order to make people choose a side. The gay issue is perfect for this since most people are generally somewhat offended by the idea of homosexuality, even if they're not an outright homophobe. Something like the two-linen "rule" would be far TOO divisive though, so they purposely and conveniently overlook it. Same with working on the sabbath, (which people used to literally be punished for during the first few centuries).
my opinion..for what its worth..its because there bullies.Gays are easy to pick on.Christains love to pray on the weak.Just my guess it might be as simple as there assholes.

Because being a gay like myself who is out make Christians feel like we are saying, "Nanner nanner I'm gay and you can't do a thing about it".
So they are just trying to prove us wrong and killing their religious numbers at the same time.
