  • Would love to be able to see the DVD!!

  • She is simply brilliant! One has to admit to her undeniable beauty, but there dozens of women that are even better looking. When I'm listening to her CDs I can't see her nor do I imagine her. I'm listening to the music. The fact is that she pours her heart and soul into it and her interpretation is excellent. She is just a great musician and when her beauty fades as it does with us all, she will still be a fantastic artist. I love her work. As someone said, any negative comments are simply envy.

  • PS: I am the film's director and copyright holder, so it can only go through me

  • Hey Alison fans, many of you have E mailed to ask for the full length film. To be able to put this on DVD I need a lot of requests to submit to the record company for permission. If you click 'Like' on the trailer and ask to see DVD we can get it out... and I promise 'Nigel' is not in the film, he was just a trailer gimmick!

  • some guys here don't really know the work that take to get this level. she is pretty, so what? is it a reason for a to wear a mask or not to show up at parties? you know, other musicians would not be enthousastic to her if she was only a model. she had to gain respect from others, and it is what she doing.

  • I wish for a version with german subtitle :)

  • Is there somewhere I can purchase this documentary??

  • Alison is a great artist, naturally some people are incredibly envious of that, but unlike some rather childish critics she has maturity and humility as to rise to this level of artistry one needs to be devoid of EGO to transcend to these heights.

  • egotistical bitch

  • The song is Scualo or Squalo of Piazzola

  • @richarddunkley Count me in!

  • perfec woman trumpet musician beautiful

  • Trumpet is great! I love Jesus.

  • @ApostlesoYahwehUnite can't say I ever heard him play...

  • Thanks to YouTube I just discovered Alison Balsom (England) in addition to

my other favorites: Tine Thing Helseth (Norway) and Melissa Venema (Netherlands) ... this is what "heaven" should sound like. And Alison is a sexy, intelligent, talented & grownup young lady . I must make an effort to go to

heaven !! thank you God almighty.

It also helps if Andre Rieu will bring his orchestra :)

  • Justificate is not a word...

  • And the use of the word delusion is also misplaced. I think they might've meant disillusionment. But given that English is maybe not their first language I think these mistakes are justificateable...

  • @isitvalottioryoung1 Crude and disappointing comment. I would think that the fact that you enjoy this genre, you might exhibit more class. Until you mentioned it, I hadn't even noticed her incredible physical beauty and aforementioned attributes. ;-}

  • @almailman

Oh, I'm sorry for bringing attention to it... I guess I was worried that no one would notice --apart from Nigel, that is.

  • @isitvalottioryoung1 Nigel has unfortunately turned down the invitation to the concert. Fiona is now shattered by the revelation that not only does her Nigeypoos not like classical music, he has fessed up to being gay.

  • @almailman Not a crude and dissapointing comment in my book! Along with my comment currently the highest rated. In fact my comment was only inspired by isitvalottioryoung1's excellent comment. My comment is only cresting on the wave of their astute observation. But only time will tell, maybe your referring comment will put our lude vulgarity in it's place. And as for not noticing her "incredible physical beauty and afore...." - yeh right, too busy admiring her perfectly symmetrical embouchure!!

  • What an embarass.....this is our society.. the society of the IMAGE... Alison you are suppoed to be an artist, not a top-model! I don'y have words to express my delusion...

  • @Lexaander90 She IS an artist, not "supposed to be." If she has the talent and physical beauty to be both, why not? Would she be any less-talented if she were obese, had a hooked, crooked nose, an over bite (o.k., that might affect her playing) and was bald? Should we all use "spell check"?

  • My delusion is not her.. my delusion is the fact she is obliged to do this.. my delusion is that if she wouldn't have been pretty she couldn't be a top-soloist... have you any idea how much is difficulty to be full-time brass soloist? Can she be really the best. or is she is just in such prestigious position (exclusive contract with EMI!!!) because of her face? I like her playing, but it is not something so extraordinary to justificate all this.

  • @isitvalottioryoung1 LOL! I like it. Now Nigel can tell his mates he's not coming to the lap dancing bar tonight as he is now a culture vulture!

  • @mrwasbesonders

I'm just glad someone else has a sense of humor about it!

But, truly, it is unfortunate to see such extramusical aspects emphasized; I must admit that I cannot help but find it a bit degrading...

Furthermore, I am not convinced that "new" audiences come to so-called "classical" music to experience the same kind of hyper-sexualized commercialism they get crammed down their throats elsewhere... As a performer, I just don't see the evidence of that on a day to day basis...

  • @isitvalottioryoung1 Christ all mighty! Bit of an over reaction. its not like she's splayed out on a car naked or licking her lips at the camera or anything. She's just flashing her blonde hair around a bit whilst playing the trumpet and signing autographs.

  • @editboxes

    True.

I can probably relax a bit.

She's a good trumpeter, you know?

    Thanks for your comment, Sir.

  • I will (also) marry her some day. :)

  • Wow, this is so unwaveringly condescending, I almost don't know where to begin.

For starters, ever think maybe the poor trumpeter might actually like to be known for her musicality rather than how not particularly "old, boring and uptight" she might be? (And, I promise you, one day she will qualify as "old, boring and uptight," just give it time...)

Secondly, perhaps her audience are not as shallow as you imagine...

  • @Skaface013 I thought the same thing until I read she's with a British conductor and has a kid (but I dont think they're married...so our dream might still be a reality haha)

  • That's an excerpt from paganini's caprice. The other song is libertango. there both on utube

  • @angelchamate She doesn't seem to have an ego about her beauty..she's just beautiful...keep on choking your chicken!

  • When I was 33 years old I fell in love with Alison Balsom . Don't tell my wife!

  • Look at her..., she is FABULOSO!!!!

  • To try to suggest that her success has nothing to do with her marketable appearance is naive and misleading. Success has much to do with opportunity and good looks means a lot in the music business. No one would argue you can't play well and hold her own. Likewise no one would argue that she can match it with those at the top of this profession.

  • @Arborwaychet It clearly is not a disadvantage to be attractive in these days where sadly appearance often transcends artistry in terms of success criteria. However she is an extraordinary trumpeter and great artist full stop. Even if she was a fat ugly geezer she would still be successful though admittedly her fan base would probably be smaller!

  • She is a very gifted trumpet player who just happens to be beautiful too.

  • What is song?

  • @schazabyt

It is on the credits at the end

  • Anyone can tell me what is the name of the song playing in the video extract, clarified that it is not the capriccio, or is an excerpt from Libertango. thanks

  • @schazabyt

Escualo Tango by Astor Piazzolla I think

  • yes she is obviously a very attractive woman, but to suggest that her success equation is heavily influenced by her physical appearence is a bitter and nasty comment. Yes I am a musician, and get paid to perform on my Bb, C, and piccolo trumpets. I'm a male, and I celebrate her talent and realize that it is something to aspire to.

Mikloxydian, Alison is a monster player pure and simple. To degrade her talent as being as much about her appearence is like calling Wynton Marsalis a hack sell out

  • 0:58 and following, and I'm thinking that she definitely needs to put Jacksonville FL on her concert itenerary

  • I definitely agree that she wouldn't be as well-liked if she wasn't so gorgeous (I mean, WHO would prefer to watch an ugly, blotchy-faced person than a slim, beautiful blonde?), but she's still an outstanding musician.

  • Mikxolydian, I don't think she would have won prestigious contests, been taught by Hakan Hardenberger, or even studied at the Paris Conservatoire had she not been genuinely gifted. Also, there are thousands of good trumpet players in the world not as famous as Alison, who live very confortably. I'd say you aren't a musician.

  • *comfortably

  • You know as good looking as she is, she is an incredible trumpet player, lets not take away from that!!

  • she is really good how dare you say that!!!!!

  • HOT as helll.................

  • the one who voted with thumb down, must be ugly, fat frog, full of complexes and jeloise...Alison is truly the Queen of the World of Art, she is great performer, nice charming person and beautyful lady

  • TALENT in all senses of the word !!!!

  • WOW..she's a knock out..what a babe. Oh, she plays very well too.

  • .... wonderful trailer... you are beautiful Alison, don't ever change!
