Carriage driver here; couldn't tell from the video, but didn't see an overcheck on the youngster--wonder if that would've kept him from being able to get his head down far enough to start kicking. Kudos to the older horse- he kept things under control and stopped what could have been a bad runaway. If that happens, all you can do is try to steer to safety and hope the training kicks in for the horse to hear and respond to "WHOA." Been there, done that. It gets your attention in a real hurry.

I pay 500 bucks a month for him to have his shit scooped,fed constantly, sunscreen put on when it's sunny and all but have his ass wiped when he poops.

I know both of these men. The driver is a professional trainer, and very experienced, as well as the owner. If you listen they said they had been walking and trotting for 10 minutes prior to the horse bucking. I think when they were standing there and Roy signaled to the older horse to walk on Jet felt the tug of the near horse moving off and that spooked him. Jet couldn't see the near horse or behind him so when he felt the tug of the other horse moving off in his inexperience he panicked.

If you have seen the Country Pleasure Riding Class Gone Wrong video, I think that the horse that started it, was spooked by what was following him. It is possible that they went together since they are harnessed together...but more than likely "jet" had no other option. The older horse was disciplining Jet. "i don't care how scared you are....you do not kick." Older horses will teach manners when paired with younger hroses.

At my barn we paired up a little terror of a 1.5 yr old yearling with a 12 year old baby sitter horse for the purpose that the older horse would help us teach the little one manners; man the older horse didn't let the little one get away with shit, lol, it really helped us turn him into a model horse.

They arent understanding what you are asking, they are being forced to do something, it hurts, so they try to get away and are yanked, kicked and whipped. We had a 13hh buckskin gelding . The neighbours kid went up to pat him, he swung his hindquarters at the kid, I grabbed the kid only to get the kick in the groin missing the family jewels by 1/2 inch. Hurt like hell and my thigh went as black as night. This was from a little pony. I have a 16.1 hh ball of muscle as well (Boofhead) and would hate to think of the damage he could cause if he chose too... This is one lucky man!

Young horses, like children, are unpredictable. They don't know what too expect or what to do. Jet was a 3 year old Geldenlander, (this breed is known to have a ton of energy) who was new to the pulling experience. The real amazing thing about this story is the veteran horse. Evidently these breeders had a fantastic animal at their disposal, if they trained that horse, then you can expect that Jet would turn out to be an outstanding animal. They selected a good horse to be paired with Jet..
