  • The ROOTS back up the BOSS. Wow, thats a treat!

  • The Roots is a pretty good band, but no E STREET BAND!!! just watch Live in Hyde Park, the BEST sounding DVD I've heard. They just get better with age.

  • 3:52 to 4:07 Bruce plays an epic shred solo

  • Great. Only problem is tht Bruce tries to look mad but just ends up looking constipated lol

  • from 3:20-4:34 if that shit don't make you horny, nothing will

  • At the end, Quest's afro pick fell out and landed perfectly on his rack tom.

That rack tom soon turned into SOLID GOLD.

  • Bruce is ripping in that solo and the guy from the roots is representing as well on the drums great performance

  • I keep coming back to watch this performance. It was pure magic. I'm giving Bruce more credit than I ever had (even though It looks like he's trying to go #2) but the support by the Roots(forget the drummer's name/laziness) brought it to a whole new level. Jimmy was even at a loss. It sounded sonically richer that ever, just a hell of a performance!

  • @bayonet87 lol he duz

  • would've loved to have seen max come back to "late night" to perform.

  • Orgasmic guitar solo, does he know how good he is? Love you Bruce!

  • I, like everyone else have the live dvd's and if you look at the end of the song you see the smile he gives Savage Love is the smile he gives Max at the end of the songs where he knows they absolutely tore the hell out of it! Jimmy should have just let bruce and the Roots play for the whole show. That would have been righetous!

  • wow! intense!

  • 2 people need to get some serious help.

  • GOOD, but miss Nils's solo. Bruce can do a decent job too.

Steve, he is funny to see. We should keep him just because we are used to see him on stage. AHhahahah....^ ^

  • @toujoursjuste I'm gonna be nice, but I won't be the next time you speak of my Stevie like this, I warn you I will have to hurt you!!!!!!!! LOL ;O)

  • @toujoursjuste I'm gonna be nice, but I won't be the next time you speak of my Stevie like this, I warn you I will have to hurt you!!!!!!!! LOL ;O)

Stevie's expressions are hilarious at times lol

Nils is good but no comparison to Stevie......

  • @MsSongcollector i disagree...stevies great and e street wasnt the same without him but even bruce himself says nils is the best guitarist in the band...check his r&r hall of fame acceptance speech

  • wáááááááááááááááááááááááá

    CLASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • This set was killer! Thumbs Way Up!

  • holy fuck

  • @leosussan straight up my friend. Vintage Boss and Stevie. There is no comparison.

  • I'm not even a Springsteen fan but that performance was pure magic. The jam at the end is basically unrepeatability. After it all, everyone was looking around like they couldn't believe it -- it was that good.

  • Holy shit

  • Saw this last night on Jimmy Fallon, Awesome performance. Had to see it again. All I can say is WOW!

  • wow

  • Absolutely blistering. LOVE how they're all in unison toward the end. Just one unit, in spirit, playing together. The Roots delivered. And what can you say about Springsteen? National treasure, my friends.

  • About Patti's vs. Bruce's version...On the recently released "The Promise", Bruce recorded Patty's version, so now there's Bruce's version, Patti's recording and the new...cover? Bruce never sits still for long. Where would rock n roll have gone without Springsteen ? It would be less of a world.

  • I like Bruce but not the E Street band or the production on most of his albums. This is killer shit. Roots Springsteen should tour.

  • Bruce is starting to look like DeNiro.

  • Best Ever!!!!!

  • Freakin' AWESOME!!! ...Bruce's new album "The Promise" ROCKS!! ...I highly recommend it.

  • Absolutely wonderful!

  • JIMMY, YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL SENSE OF HUMOR. I LAUGH ALONG WITH YOU EACH NIGHT! I LAUGH AS YOU YOURSELF, CAN NOT CONTROL YOURSELF AND SO GIGGLES ESCAPE... YOU CRACK ME UP!! I ENJOY YOUR GAME SHOWS AND YOUR MINI SHOWS, STEVE AS A "REAL HOUSEWIFE" (G) YOU CAN ALWAYS SEE THE "SNL" IN YOUR SHOW! IT IS LIKE HAVING A NEW EPISODE OF SNL EVERY NIGHT.

THE ROOTS COMPLIMENT YOU YOUR SHOW! IT MUST BE FUN WRITING FOR QUES AND THE GANG. I LOVE THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO SING AND "ACT" ON YOUR SHOW TOO!

  • ALL I CAN SAY IS '"WHAT CAN I SAY?" THE BOSS WILL ALWAY BE "THE BOSS!!'

I MET THE ROOTS 352 SHOWS AGO ON JIMMY FALLONS SHOW AND I HAVE BEEN CRAZY ABOUT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM SINCE!! I AM SO EXCITED TO HAVE THEM ALL ON THE BIG SCREEN IN MY BEDROOM EVERY LATE NIGHT!!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!

  • this was baddass!!!!

  • like his very life depended on it. like always.

  • @paulcdallas The Boss.

  • bruuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccccccccceeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I LOVE YOUUUUUU

  • effing brilliant. I love this song.

  • I have now watched this video 10 times over and it's all like hearing the song for the FIRST time...when they honored him at the Kennedy Center, Jon Stewart said he empties the tank every time, whether it is for his family, his friends, or his fans...and from seeing him live, this performance only captures a taste of what you get...to watch someone jam this way for two and a half, three hours straight sets the bar REALLY high for others, hell they can't keep up! This man really is THE BEST

  • I usually get up for work at 6:00 a.m., and don't stay up late, but when I heard on a promo spot for Jay Leno that Bruce Springsteen was going to be on the Jimmy Fallon show, I said, work be damned...I am not missing this! anyone that missed this really deprived themselves of one of music's natural resources...longevity is the key to success in any endeavor you attempt, and for him to have rocked this long and with such passion and energy really says a lot about who he is.

  • I'm not a fan of Springsteen. Got nothing against him, just not a fan. But I AM a fan of Patti Smith and excellent musicians playing her music. Except for Van Zant. He needs to go lay down or something.

  • @ChristopherRobinH Bruce wrote this with Patti, so technically it's his music too.

  • @MrStroodlecutie Yep, for what I now Bruce recorded the song with his band during the "Darknes on the edge of town" recording sessions at the same time and the same studios where Patty was working on "Easter", so that would have made for a collaboration in the making of the song.

  • @Youtubax Bruce wrote this song, thought it did not fit the Darkness album and gave it away to Patti who changed some of the lyrics. That's the story.

  • @spanskajohnny You're right. In fact the song was originally written for Darnkness but as you said Patti made it's own version. Anyway, I like Bruce version the most!

  • @Youtubax ...Yeah, I think his version on the 75-85 Live set is better than Smith's to be honest. I'm glad he still brings this one out once in a while. Not sure why he left this off of Darkness but on the other hand, I'm kind of glad Smith got it and got a little commercial recognition for it.

  • @Youtubax Bruce wrote this song, thought it didn't fit the Darkness album and gave it away to Patti who changed some of the lyrics. That's the story.

  • @MrStroodlecutie I completely forgot about that. lol

  • The Boss is unbelievable...and he just teamed up with my other hero Ray Davies for a great duet on the Kinks song Better Things...hence my name KInksBoss1

  • There is not an artist or band on fucking planet earth who could follow Bruce Springsteen. This guy is an American legend.

  • Silvio Dante rockin the guitar solos : D

  • Bruce is amazing. Max get a haircut? Clarence is looking younger.

  • awesome. ahhh need nils solo here tho

  • Still totally hot at 6ß!!

  • Love how at the very end of the clip, just as the song is over, the Roots' drummer, Questlove pumps his fist because he's so psyched about having been part of such a terrific performance. I am now an even bigger Roots fan than I was before. (Couldn't possibly be a bigger Springsteen fan, by the way.) Thanks, Jimmy and NBC for this great TV moment.

  • Every wannabe popstar should be made to see him live at least once... so they can see how it is really done...

  • @4:30 you know its serious when quest love's pick falls out

  • they KILLED IT! Absolutely murdered that! Oh my gosh! The Roots went ALL out! Love them! Bruce Springsteen is so BOSS! WOW!!!! What a performance!

  • From 3:20 on my face melted.

  • 3 guitars rocking at once. Amazing.

  • Fuck me, fuck me and FUCK ME, this is fucking fantastic. Excuse the language but fuck, nothing comes close to describing how awesome this is!

  • I love Bruce and the E street band sooo much but I think this group should tour

  • oh dat feels sooooooooooooooooo good

  • Amazing. As usual. He bores me with his brilliance and talent. Maybe he could suck once in a while just the make the rest of us feel better about ourselves. No, he has to go out every single time and kick ass. Every time. Amazing. :-)

  • @dstalld Eh??????? You smokin dope? Ever heard of the E street band??

  • That was just amazing. Imagine switching on tv and seeing a performance like that.

  • The Roots are really breaking barriers. Barriers of hatred. They are absolutely (hands down) amazing. They feel their music. Both the Roots and Bruce have found the way (into many hearts).

  • Per Questlove in RS, the song was supposed to end on the chorus after the bridge. That was how they had rehearsed it, but at show time, Bruce and Stevie took their solos and added another 2 minutes to the song! What an audible!

  • Great performance!

  • BRUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I thought he was born in 48.... my bad

  • What do you mean by "roots"?

  • @grbosss Jimmy Fallon's Late Show band is called "The Roots"

  • he is 62!!!! and looks better than me at 31!!!!

  • @kramer56 Born 23 september 1949 makes him 61 in my book

  • I cant belive Bruce is 61 years old! Damn they nailed this one!

  • "O" is that Silvio Dante jamming ?

  • Bruce Had - Still got it - Never Lost it.....How many Rockers can YOU say that about ?

The list is not to long................This Rocks!! Like it's suppose to.

    Can You Say Cool.

  • @WhiteBoy41 Cool.

  • @WhiteBoy41 NONE. Only Bruce.

  • one for the ages. I remember when Bruce performed on Letterman's final show on NBC before Conan took over in the early 90s. I'm gonna search for it on youtube.

  • @bluehaven100 I found it here v=-3AjfobLpws

  • He is perfection.

  • Love Bruce, don't love his hair. Let it go natural, Boss.

  • An amazing performance. To think he gave this away..The Promise is an amazing box set capturing Bruce at the height of his power.

  • Now, that's music people. Listen and learn

  • But GOOD GOD thank you Jesus for Boss and Stevie!!

  • Another magical song that I had no idea Bruce had a hand in. If God walks among us, his name is Bruce.

  • @BoBoCTiberius No............ Boss is not God, but God he did make magic (literally lol)

  • his name. bruce is the chant. as it has been for a very long time. but other than that, this is a small performance and he treats it as if it was a huge concert, one of the best performers ever

  • Bruce should do more gigs with the roots!

  • cil

  • Please change the audioperv link...the ending is not the best letter to end on.

  • this was one of the best performances i seen on this show. And their are good performances on this show.

  • Awesome is the only word to describe it.

  • What a show!!!! Great performance with the Bruce, Steve, Roy and The Roots!!!!

  • They're not booing, they're saying "the ROOOOOOTS".:D

    This is absolutely spinetingling.

    Bruuuuuuuuce.

  • @KeswickPinhead they're saying BOOOOOOOOOOOSE not the ROOOOOOTS lol it's the diehard's way of cheering for Bruce lol i agree tho, spinetingling shit!

  • @nakedlaughing Did you mean "Boooooze"?:D

    They're not booing, they're chanting Muuuuuuuuuuuusic.:D

  • @KeswickPinhead no. i meant boooooooose. his fans say his name like they're booing...@questlove said as much the night they performed lol. either way, it's an awesome performance!! :) :)

  • @nakedlaughing they're not saying "boooooooose." they're saying "bruuuuuuuuce." (??)

  • @RunyonFan omg i was simply spelling it the way it sounds when people yell it and PS a lot of Bruce fans say boooooooooooose instead of pronouncing the full brrrrrruuuuuuuuce. Clearly I saw the clip, I know who they're yelling for. smh either way I'm done discussing this inanity.

  • MIAMI STEVE!

  • This was yet again a great performance of what is, in my opinion one of his best songs. I LOVE the version on "Live 1975-1985" , although I have to admit, for being such a huge Bruce Fan, I haven't heard nearly as many of bootlegs as some of you have. I literally cannot think of another American Songwriter with as many truly GREAT songs, with the longevity he has. Not Paul Simon, not Bob Dylan, not Warren Xevon, not Neil Young, not Jackson Browne, well you get the idea. Peace, Bruce Fans! -dave

  • I fucking love The Boss. I fucking love The Roots. Best performance I've seen of anything in years. Can't believe they played together. Fucking hell! So GREAT!

  • Van Zandt is seriously spoiling this otherwise great performance with his unnecessary histrionics...I'd headbutt him if I was The Boss :)

  • @mason031 chill out,Stevie is doing what he usually does at Bruce concerts

  • @dragonranger12 @ShotgunBlues42 didn't want to come off as bitchy or something, but I really don't like showing off :)

  • @mason031 Steve is just being Steve. It's part of the charm.

  • just got sent this link and it absolutely just made my day :)

  • what a way to start my day,,just got sent this from a friend,,,BROOOOOOCE,,,powerful,,a great song,,performed by a living legend!!

  • holy shit

  • Perfection, love this song.

  • Little Steven, he ain't so little anymore.

  • @FelixMerchant so the fact that fallon and the boss performed together means he hates fallon? seems to make sense?? asshole

  • I think the lyrics for the verses were different for Patti's version than Bruce - at least Bruce's live version from the 75-85 box set CDs. This is the original, as Patti recorded it. Not so much skipping words as staying true to the original blueprint.

  • why did he skip some words?

  • @Sabotage823 cause there are multiple versions and the song is too long for TV

  • Always Bruce! Always THE BOSS!

    Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil.

  • Forget "Like A Boss" it should be "Like THE Boss!"

  • @FelixMerchant you're an asshole, the only thing you have right in your comment is that bruce springsteen is amazing! fallon is a huge fan of music, and i'm sure he's been a fan of bruce most of his life. it would be like meeting a childhood hero, fallon did a good job of being an interviewer and a fan.

  • always and forever the boss! Jimmy is a huge springsteen fan!!!

  • @FelixMerchant What? Did you even watch the interview? Fallon is a big Bruce fan...

  • @FelixMerchant

What makes you think Fallon is an asshole and Bruce doesn't like him?

  • BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE

  • Look how pumped the Roots are during and after this song...I don't think I've ever seen ?uestlove smile so much! Epic performance!!!

  • @carver1976

I saw that too. Even for a hip hop band, there's nothing better than rock and roll.

  • @carver1976 i was at the show...quest love was so happy.. he said before rehearsals when they were about to start he kept forgetting to play because he was in shock that he was playing with bruce. who would have guessed the roots were such big fans of him

  • @carver1976 The reason for Questlove's smile has a lot to do with him getting to fulfill a lifelong dream- to share the stage with one of his heroes, Bruce Springsteen.

  • Who does it better than the BOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just amazing, can't say nothing else

  • Okay, when does Bruce tour with the Roots. Sold out sea to shining sea!

  • Still....and always..... THE BOSS !!!!!!!!!

  • Great performance.

  • Epic.

Not surprising though because here you have two of the best live acts ever in Bruce and The Roots. Combined and it is epic.

  • I've been to 27 Bruce shows and I've seen The Roots 4 times.

31 best concerts I've been to.

Last night was incredible and I'm glad Bruce was up for trying something so different.

  • Bruce fuckign shredded on that shit. Gawddamn.

  • The look on Fallons face says it all!

  • @Blitzster250

I agree...one word when describing bruce live: POWER

You think they will tour again huh? He best come to Boston numerous times.

  • @rlambert15 He has got to have atleast one last world tour. He ows his fans a farewell tour before he goes. even if his full band isint there it would still be great. Just look at this performance with the roots.

  • classy performance
