  • I love Jim Morrison...

  • "How does the seed get strangled in the heart of a man?"

  • I went to Jimbo's grave in Paris. I had to ask the people in French where is his grave. It is a good thing that i know French.I had in laws in Germany. That is how i got to France.

  • Can anyone post the full lyrics for this song? I have tried again and again to decipher them, but can only get a few lines.

  • I still appreciate this album for what it was... Steve's image and lyrics were quite iconoclastic at the time for a christian artist and even looking back on a song like this where he actually pays homage to Jim without preaching so much as expressing a sort of harrowing epiphany; this was something special. I'm an atheist now, but I really do look back fondly on this album and the artist. He and Larry Norman still command my respect to this day.

  • the only thing i wonder is why did they leave his body in paris

  • used to listen to this on cassette at work and at high school. loved it when it was on mtv.

  • Wow, I have missed this so much. Steve Taylor was always my way to touch religion in a positive light. I loved him so much. And, again, this is one of his best works. Too bad it isn't in higher resolution. [Can someone get a better copy on here?]

  • "Jim Morrison's Grave" asks the age-old question: Does artistry justify being a weasel? The last line of the song is, "The music covers like an evening mist/Like a watch still ticking on a dead man's wrist." Morrison left the world some intriguing music. As far as I'm concerned, that's not enough. -Steve Taylor

  • Forgot how deep Steve Taylor songs were! Thank you for posting!

  • That's when you know when you're a Legend like Jim.

When somebody writes a song and makes a music video about your grave.

  • @ThinCrustPizza67 hehe true :P

  • Great song, great lyrics, but spoken to generation without ears. Steve Taylor was/is the ice breaker of the frozen chosen.

  • if you think this is insulting to Jim Morrison, you weren't paying attention... listen again

  • Steve Taylor is my all time favorite musician. He is a musical genius, I wish he still made music. No one comes close to his intelligent music. His lyrics are so smart.

  • I love Jim Morrison, I love the doors, i love this song:D

  • Ironic, this song stands against everything Jim Morrision stood for.

  • DREADFULL!!!!

  • My six year old gilr listens to Steve Taylor's stuff with me

  • Steve, Courtney from Jim's office says "hello"... This video is an absolute classic!

  • like a watch still ticking on a dead man's wrist... one of the greatest lines ever

  • I liked this song when it first came out in the 80s love it now, especially the ending.

I would have added more percussion to it to make it more intense though.

  • this is possibly the worst band the world has ever seen

  • stupid video, would not pay 1 dollar to see this band

  • Voll scheisse und am Thema vorbei.

    6, schnautze halten und setzen.

  • The Jim's grave old style looks creepy, specially because that bust.

  • "I stay driven, 'cause there's nowhere to park"

  • i thought they said steve tyler

  • by all means. carry on, soldier.

  • Good song. Love his music. Anyone know if Meltdown is on here?

    God bless you!

  • @cavgurl07 ya just type it in...music video should pop up

  • im currently reading comments on thiese "the doors" videos of him, and i like what people are saying. Dont worry people, rap wont live forever aslong as we are alive.

    Rock will rise again

  • Where do we go from here?

  • I get weary, Lord I don't understand

How a seed get strangled in the heart of a man

While the music covers like an evening mist

Like a watch still ticking on a dead man's wrist

Tick away.... Says it all Steve Taylor is the best...

  • The song still doesn't do anything for me. But the old Paris footage of Jim's grave are great to see.

  • nice shoulder pads, dude.

  • Eu tinha esse vídeo em VHS, esse video em especial me lembra alguns anos atraz da minha vida.

  • At my first Christian Concert, there was no alcohol or crude behavior going on, and it I found relief in that. I'm not downing secular music, but I don't like the idea of pride associated with it. I like playing Metallica and Megadeth riffs, but all the bad stuff associated with this music I put to the side, cause it ruins all the fun.

  • You know, this song kinda gets me thinking about the Rock and Roll world in general, and why I would prefer Christian Music over Secular Music. It seems like a lot of people treat Rock like it's a wild party.

It seems like it's mostly about sex and how many women a man can get. It also involves a lot of alcohol. I was at Rock Fest, and I didn't like this attitude. I just want to enjoy the music without the bad stuff. That's one thing I like about the Christian world.

  • @ChiggyChiggy

Rock isn't all about getting effed up, but that takes up a good chunk of it. i respect that you enjoy your christianity, i applaud you for not being corrupted. But understand alot of good music would not exist, had the performing artists not gotten a little wild.

  • Nothing to add except I'm glad people are still viewing and commenting!

  • I love this guys music, listened to it as a kid in high school. I can not find I predict 1990 anywhere to download can anyone help me out

  • Try Itunes. Just downloaded the whole album.

  • @ljtucker10 Yeah, request it from Itunes, and have a profound reason. ;-) you're welcome. I recently requested Squint and had a persuasive reason. I hope to see it soon.

  • i think this song is a very good one....steve taylor is a good lyracist and son writer so lighten up hes not trying to sound like jim morrison...hes just giving his thoughts on the man he was.a stupid, dark man.

  • You don't know much about a poet's heart if you can simplistically state that Morrison was a 'stupid, dark man'. You don't know anything about his pain or the beautiful soul that saw the world differently than you and I. And this song is not a condemnation of Morrison. The song is about the tragedy and loneliness of a living legend's life being snuffed out too soon and being discarded in the cold earth.

  • To some people, dwelling in Unhappy subjects or not keeping things "nice and Pretty" like a house and garden magazine is dark. Morrison definatley saw the world different than most people. Lord knows there is always lives getting snuffed to soon all the time. That singer from Blind Melon....what a loss. Seems like its never that mean asshole that glares at you while walking up to the store that gets handed the tragedy, despair or brain tumor and most undeserving the. ISOLATION. This world?

  • @baseball13008 Sir... I don't know if you know enough about Taylor to say this.

  • i was there i saw his grave, i think its to little

  • Thanks for posting this. I had never seen it beforebut I did see HIM in Boston in 1970 Thanks again.

  • 1970? I didn't think he dubuted untill the 80's

  • i idolize a band that made great music 40 years ago and i just saw Them at the fillmore on the 20th of march..The Music Lives On

  • Post "What is the measure..." SOMEONE.

  • I just did, along with a lot of other Steve Taylor songs.

  • You CAN find a roach there if you need one!

  • thats nasty dude

  • very cool~

  • Have not heard this song for 20 years. Had the i predict 1990 on a cassette tape in college. My favorite steve taylor album. Never knew there was a music video to this. You tube comes through again!

  • Ok Fan Of The Doors & Jim & Im 12 Too Be Honest I Would Like Too See Jims Grave

  • I saw it last spring, it doesn't loock like that anymore. My friends and I went to see it together. The statue of him isn't there anymore and someone put a fense up around the thombstone... It's still worth going to Paris for though

  • Yeah, some dickhead stole the bust...

  • Hey, I'd do that to if the other dickhead hadn't come first!

Maybe not... but it would be tempting! XD

  • I wanted to write "XD", but apparently YT thinks thats too short... So here I go annyway:

    XD

  • all you Doors fans need to realize what the song is saying: DON'T IDOLIZE CELEBRITIES! He just happened to be inspired to write it on a trip to Paris.

And just for the record, Steve likes the Doors music. He talks about it in a interview he did about this song 20 years ago.

  • johnnyarockalypse...AMEN! Reminds me of what we going to go through with Michael Jackson's death...

  • this is so wrong , and the lyrics suck, but kind of catchy (cringe)

  • morrison deserves better than this.

  • cool..

  • what a lot of RUBISH these clowns need some1 else to get attention go away like hide deep inside that lost childish mind or have u lot got 2 brains? 1 lost the other out looking for the lost 1 ha

  • I am writing this of personal views;

I do not think its a great songname or song and it does not fit to the video. In the video, people run around at Jim Morrison's grave site... Is there no sympathy for the dead anymore?

  • Why are we sympathetic to the dead anyway? I honestly don't think I'll be around to care if people are dancing on my grave...

  • Too bad some a-hs stole the bust. The place is creepy and it should be apparent to anyone who is familiar with JM and the Doors that he is buried in the wrong place.

To those 2 pretenders who are still masquerading as The Doors and their pathetic manager who is only interested in selling merch: Honor him and don't degrade him, and bring him back to L.A. where he belongs.

To those fools who make degrade his lyric and music:

You should have seen him live. If Elvis was king, then he was God.

  • i love this song on liver....

  • hahha..I get the whole meaning behind the song..

yes, the song is definitely NOT something MoJo would write, but people need to lighten up!!

At the very least it is a cool trip through Pere LeChaise, and cool to see the black cat that hangs out there that the guards call 'Pamela'.. ;)

  • Kohl 93, yes that is Ashley Cleveland.

  • All anyone ever hears about Jim Morrison is that he was a "genius" - but not that he was deviant, destructive, megalomaniacal - his grave is testament to his hollow legacy. That, and the music lives on after the artist dies and has to account for himself before his Maker. Steve Taylor's satire (and 20 year old New Wave/Rock) packs twice the genius of any Doors dreck Morrison wrote.

  • Oh my! Nice thought but horrible execution! Yikes!

  • I have been a Steve Taylor Fan for a long time! This song is about how he went and saw Morrisons grave and he was astounded by how many people payed homage to a man who led such a tragic life. (if I remember correctly)He was amazed at the condition of it, and wondered what would have happened if he had been more of a positive influence on people. It is a very religous song, and questions peoples choice in who they hold in the highest regards.

  • Anyone know where I can get my hands on "I Predict 1990" on CD? My cassette died long ago & this is the closest I can get to actually hearing the great songs on this album...

  • I really am glad they have Steve Taylor videos on you tube, I think my husband throw out my vhs of him when we more two years ago.

  • after watching the video and reading some of the comments here i have to wonder if the song is about religion at all. a lot of Morrison's lyrics had a very morbid theme to them. don't know much about this Taylor guy but the lyrics of this song are quite morbid as well. maybe the song is nothing more than a tribute to a musical inspiration for this Taylor. as for the song itself i kind of like it. its catchy. peace.

PS. does anyone know if that's Ashley Cleveland on female vocals. sound like her.

  • GREAT VIDEO.

  • This isn't about being religious, man. I hate religion. This is about relationship. This is about reality. This is about a realm that cannot be quantified, so it is foolishly dismissed. Science has its limitations.

  • @trentholt

    applause for you!!

  • @trentholt religion has nothing to do with being religious.

relationships are limited compared to true religious feeling, especially modern relationships.

  • @trentholt

It's about a relationship with an invisible man living in the sky that you would have no idea about if it weren't for your religion.

  • Who's talking about god? This music misses the mark.Really, you religious types love spouting bullshit at any opportunity.Jim lived his life how we wanted to live it good or bad,no one can judge him, each to their own.If you wanna follow the ten commandments by all means do it but down sound off over what other people do it aint your place to say anything.

  • You're right, people live as they want. The question is maybe they do it because of their idiocy? As in "Matrix", they all thought they rule the wold. It's not about commandments, it's about seing a little bit further than your nose. You're not a god, and things happen no matter you want this or not. I think at least Jim would prefer longer life if he knew more than drugs. And everything that he left just a grave. His music will die soon with those who adore him, couse many follow his example.

  • Morrison simply tapped into the spirit realm. Yet, its a cheap trip that is full of wickedness. Its extremely dangerous and reveals an understanding that is not meant for our use.

Christ is the authority over all of the spirit realm. I pray those skeptics would catch a glimpse and not assume this is coming from a soul not inferior with formal education.

  • Morrison is dead and gone. His lyrics and music, albeit with depth, completely missed the mark. Only Christ is absolute Truth. All truth stems from this understanding.

Thank God we do have Christians who have the spirit that Joshua had. Taylor's music was at least 15 years ahead of its time.

  • The thing is jim morrison was a good artist but he let drugs lead him to an early death just like most secular artists. I think if the secular world can be biased why cant us christians be biased I dont think steve taylor will ever sell as many albums as jim morrison has but he has said alot better and wore alot more meaningful songs then the doors have. I like steve taylor because he is an edgy christian like me. We are not afraid of the secular world even if it means losing support.

  • i agree with the dude way down below me...no one will ever beat cobain or jimmy morrison with the lyrics they wrote...and who the fuck is this shitty guy and song like wtf dont disgrace jim morrisons name like that

  • thing that made taylor's music so great is that it attracts the unelightened one's to possibly hear about the truth.

  • I didn't expect to come in to see his grave this way :(

  • See, this is what happens when untalented people use Jim for there own personal gain. The song sucks and so does the video. A complete and total disgrace.

  • agree i personally dont like this song at all crap agree with hirmente comments anywhy let jim rest in peace i wasnt even born when he died does anyone know if hes parents and sister and or brother are still alive the doors forever

  • Run-ons much?

  • Steve Taylor had brilliant lyrics, because he wasn't afraid to take shots at the (Christian) establishment. I guess you could say the same thing about both Jim and Steve - too bad neither of them is making music anymore. At least Taylor's still around.

  • Taylor was definitely ahead of his time.

  • So cool. Taylor is one of the best of the older Christian musical talent. His music went against the mold back in the 80's

  • If Jim Morrison herd this, He'd be rolling in his grave.

  • Awesome tune! I can't believe all the fairies whining about this song. Listen, pansies, if you don't like the song, don't listen. Nobody is holding a gun to your head! Ever hear of free speech? Used to listen to this [early 90's]in the Six Flags office. Someone brought in the CD; we wore it out. Clearly none of those whining about this song are musicians or they wouldn't talk that way. You can't tell a non-musician that they don't know anything about music; they won't know what you mean.

  • No one did hold a gun to my head - the fact that I type 'Jim Morrisson' and end up on this bullshit page was not to do with me wanting to see some freak who would desecrate a grave to further his career. He is sick, I don't give a fuck what he says or does, but I despise people like him and people like you... I am a musician, and I can guarantee you are a wannabe, and a never will be. Don't ever comment on things you obviously do not understand, as it is beyond a Cupid Stunt such as you...

  • This is a dissapointment. I thought I would see something of where the great Mr. Mojorising is buried, but instead it is poor video quality of a cemetary and some real, real, bad music.

  • Actually, you can see JM's grave several times (1'05 and after): the old one, that was ordered by Pamela. I could see and film it then, at the père Lachaise. The most famous grave of this huge cemetery (advertised from 1 mile away or more!), where so many famous characters are still buried).

His parents or the Doors ordered a new grave in the nineties (too much ugly paintings and graffitis), the head was removed and I think you cannot go and sit ON the grave any more.

  • except my car.a passat from 81.

  • the place where Jim's grave marker is at looks to have taken some significant damage from fans.........its sad

  • Well, I guess you got us to listen to some of your stuff. If this is for personal use, then good on you, but if you think it's going anywhere ... you're mistaken. by the way, it's gets really tedious toward the end.

  • jim would be turning in his grave if he heard that song so cheesy THIS IS THE END of your singing career steve taylor

  • You're an idiot. Tbis song came out in 1987. It's twenty years old. Taylor isn't putting out music these days because he is directing film/music videos.

My guess is you didn't even listen to the message of the song and are just posting a gut reaction. This song is more about people like you than it is about Jim Morrison.

  • Steve is making movies now. And this song was not used to enhance his career. In fact, Steve didn't really want this song pushed, but A&M Records did it anyway. Learn your facts, dude.

  • Then why do you keep coming back and posting, shiteyes.

Steve Taylor actually had intelligent lyrics, whereas Jim Morrison was just drugged out stream of consciousness crap. And Steve isn't even criticizing Jim here. That being said, with the exception of a few singles, The Doors are easily the most overrated band in rock n' roll history. Give me XTC, Bob Dylan or hell, even Duran Duran.

  • You are making no sense with drivel like that you complete cretin. Look at any top 100 rock bands of all time list - voted by muso or fan. You will see the doors in the top ten or very close, but of course your opinion is better than everyone elses...

  • First off, top 100 lists are complete crap and make no argument for talent or even influence. I am aware of The Doors' work as well as its impact and influence. But I am also familiar with Steve Taylor's work. And I can say with complete confidence that despite the occasional musical misfire in the 80s, Steve's lyrics transcend Morrison's fifty fold.

  • It's a good job for stevey that lists don't argue for talent... and what influence has he had? - none.

The fact is, he is a nobody, and will remain so.

  • No, he's not a nobody, but it's a shame you define who is "somebody" by how well known they are. There are different levels of success in the music biz and I can promise you that Steve is pretty high up there. He's had a record co and is responsible for quite a few hit singles, a movie producing co, a solo career and a major label deal for his band Chagall Guevara with MCA. The Chagall CD alone makes anything The Doors have done seem like pantywaist in comparison.

  • I'm not too familiar with his solo work either, but he wrote a lot of material for the Newsboys and Guardian (maybe other bands, too... I'm not sure). Anyone who's been influenced by them has been influenced to some degree by Taylor's songwriting. He's one of my lyrical heroes.

  • Yeah forgot about that. It's funny because the Newsboys actually had 3 albums worth of competent lyrics because of him. Then you see the records without Taylor and his absence in the lyrical dept is obvious.

  • Actually, if it wasn't for Taylor, many of the Christian bands that are out today would still be using lyrics like Stryper.

You also forget that this song isn't a dis on Morrison, Steve said that Jim's music was full of talent, however, people noted that he was incredibly cruel to those around him, including people who loved him. That's what this song is about.

He also stated that artists such as Cobain were at least far more honest and far less cruel that Morrison ever was.

  • anything to do witht he 80s is cheesey and cmpy. the 60s were dangerous and wild. morrison was extremley spiritual and deep. ever hear of a shaman? look it up. morrisons lyrics especially in songs like ''not to touch the earth'' and fest of friends are so moving its saddening.

    noone can touch

    morrison

    cobain

    hendrix

they werent about fun and games

they were real and they were crazy- a real genuis lives live o the edge and relays the expierence to the cowards

  • Yeah, that would be real authoritative commentary on your part if it wasn't 100% wrong. You sound like you might have discovered rock n' roll 2 years ago. Go listen to a Jesus and Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins, Husker Du, Replacements, Sonic Youth or Smiths record and then tell me about cheese and camp. Your beloved Kurt was heavily influenced by at least 3 of those bands.

  • are you for real, what a load of rubbish. are you really trying to tell me that, steve "heap of s**t" taylor, has conbributed more to music. you fool.

hold up, mabey you are steve, or his wife.

  • Music is a personal thing. I don't listen to The Doors. Out of the 1500+ CDs I own, not one of them is a Doors CD. But I do have 3 Steve Taylor related CDs. So yeah, in my musical journey - Steve has contributed more. So in a round about sort of way - that IS what I am trying to tell you. God bless ya.

  • Actually, he's contributed quite more than people think. Rolling Stone Magazine gave him some rave reviews stating that they hadn't seen anything as good in years.

You, sly, however, seem to be a bit incoherent. Maybe you haven't realized it, but your comment looks like crap.

  • Your insult laden reply has "I care enough to argue" written all over it.

  • what the hell

  • Word is that the body was removed to be reburied in LA back when the 30 yr lease (yeah a lease on a burial plot, imagine that) with Pere Lechaise was up in 01. As far as I know no one has confirmed or denied this. The smaller block with the latin inscription is the current stone.

  • That may be true. I was at that cemetery in 04 There was a significant amount of damage to his grave site. The bust of his face is gone.

  • What I read was the bust was removed to an unknown location to prevent damage to it and the smaller plainer stone replaced it.

  • great to hear a song bout jim, but this guy is a fucking cocksucker.

  • Do you know him??? Steve is good friend of mine.. He's not mocking Jim.. He loves the edge of Jim.. Even if we don't have the same philosophy or theology, we can see trubadors that question why we walk as lemmings.. Questioning methods over substance. This could have been "Elvis Presley's Grave" or "John Lennon's Grave" or "Kurt Cobain's Grave" or "Ronald Reagan's or any human that many sat on edge for words and thought".... That's all that it is... Nothing More, Nothing Less...

  • who the Fuck is Steve Taylor?

  • A satirist from the 80's-90's. However, he's not satirizing Jim, but the fanaticism that can be found with many rock legends.

  • He's a ladyboy, trapped in the 80s. I think u can go spit on him in a theme-park in thailand now... If your spit is green you get another go. I made sure I had flu b4 I went!

Stevey - torture would be a let off for you.

  • i spent hours finding jim's grave but afer in did it was well worth it i had a bottle of jack and pot and spent the night

  • jesso, how many cats did u see at the grave?

  • Jesso, thanks! a bottle of jack, how was it to find the grave was it hard, any guards who told you were to go and so on? i need to know all about pére lachaise cemiteire :) would be great, keep the blues-rock! =) btw do you have any pictures on jims grave? plz send me would be awsome thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • should've tripped....jim would've

  • In what year did you go? I went in 2001 and the infamous statue was not there. Only a small headstone that read his name and the dates. There was a bottle and Jack left on the right side corner with a joint. Sickingly enough, I took a picture because I knew I would never see it again.

  • guys, do you even know how hard it is to find jim morrisons grave? the "severed garden" is so big people can search for hours, learn something before you choose your opinion,

  • thank you to upload this song, and thank you mr Taylor for singing this good song in Mr Morrisons Garden thanks you!

  • So what if Morrison had drug issues, its the purity of his music and poems that count most!not what vices he had!Besides, most popular musicians have drug problems, they should'nt be judged for that!Peace ~ *_* ~

  • He isn't judging the person by his drug use, he's judging the drug use itself and the fans that follow. If you know Taylor, he likes Morrison's music. He believes in the essense of music as well, opening your mind outside of Christian music and whatnot (I wouldn't call it purity by no means).

  • I wish I could hear all the words to the song! I love Steve Taylor.

People love to worship the creature rather than the creator (Romans 1).

  • Bullshit

  • Although I would like to have the video footage of everything BUT the band...

  • Just an FYI to something some of you have already mentioned. Jim's grave looks nothing like this anymore. No graffiti, modest remembrances, different headstone and metal barricades.

Biggest disappointment: no headstone. An ex-pat told me that it was stolen in the late 80s.

It's funny because when you walk up the hill to Oscar Wilde, his grave is covered in lipstick and other crap.

  • I meant 'bust', not headstone, sorry.

  • Wow, it's like pathetic, ridiculous and intriguing, all at the same time.

  • Steve Taylor has 80's hair. This video is so dated.
