Hi steve, one question: Is nokia e72 a robust/durable phone in the long run? What I mean is jean pockets, trousers, and so on. I do fear that the metal shiny frame on the front (or the back cover) might be ruined.
Steve, I just got the phone. It's excellent!! Obviously the navi key is annoying sometimes, but you can alter the sensitivity or just turn it off.
Emailing, instant messaging and browsing is such a dream. I've found myself using it as a substitute to my laptop or desktop.
The keys are a bit small and clumsy, but if it works on my huge thumbs it'll work with anyone's. Like what you said, I'd like a few improvements here and there, but right now I wouldn't have anything else.
SteveLitchfield - I've got the Nokia E72 but I'm having problems in reading my e-mails through Mail for Exchange. I can only read the header of the e-mail but not the whole e-mail.Calling Vodafone,Nokia and the IT expert in my company did not solve the problem. Any ideas?
stevelitchfield - The only big screen phone I want is the OMNIA HD and they're too expensive. The N97 mini is luring me but if Nokia gave it an AMOLED screen, radio and tinkered with the OS a little I'd practically marry it.
I don't mind the smaller screen, I've watched whole movies on smaller.
Thanks for the phone show Steve. I thought the pub meet sounded like a great idea, especially as I'm nearby in Newbury - but I'm afraid that happens to an evening which I offered to be on-call - Argh!!
Funny how all the 'real world users' from the past shows have always cycled through a list of various manufacturers devices before arriving at a Nokia device that has 'saved their life'.
Steve, we know that you are an unashamed Nokia fan boy but a bit of balance wouldn't go amiss… unless everyone that watches is a Nokia fan boy too. After all, this is now 'The Phones Show' a year down the line?
I've used every story that has come in so far. I haven't excluded any contribution, honest. If you disagree with people's stories, then please submit YOUR own - there's none booked in for PS 99 at the moment....
N900, if you like gadgets and fiddling, N97 if you like touchscreens and playing, N96 or N86 if you just want to do stuff and get on with your life 8-)
I like it when someone is "for the cause" and has the ability to deliver no nonsense information like this.
I been using Nimbuzz a while, and find its a good way to get around 3's "no uk calls" rule with its skype, numbuzz lets you call uk numbers with skype. For £4 /month unlimited european calls, its probably the best thing i have found yet.
I would like to have an E72, but I love my E63 too much.
Dont forget that many improvements were made with the E63 after the E71. It has the torch function, improved keypad and 3.5mm headphone jack. If you dont mind using a bluetooth GPS and not having HSDPA (who needs it when you have wifi?), Id say the E63 is much better than the E71
At some point. All depends what I chose to shoot it on. Phones shooting 720p currently don't have good enough audio. And audio is half the battle - got to have decent sound!
A lack of decent firmware updates are what killed me off from Nokia. Everywhere else they always update the European phones pretty regularly but ignore the US. I am not even sure where to buy Euro-spec phones in the US, I don't really care too much about 3G.
Only 3 Nokias I am looking at right now are the N97 Mini, the N86, and the E72/E51.
The nexus needs hardware buttons. I know it looks sleeker without them but I like the option to quickly hangup a call without looking at the screen.
The font looked only ok in the 90s but is very old school and dated now. Thin, narrow and harsh reminds of an old 386 pc. Nokia if you want some customer feedback. Change the font ASAP!
Great Show Steve. Unfortunately even with all the updates in hardware. The software side of things always seems to be lagging behind, firmware updates here and there. And one thing I can't get over symbian is how rooted in the small screen past it is. Yes it is the no1. phone provider in the world. But in the top end market it's being blown away. Hardware is slowly centralising so the only differentiation is the software and user interface. Oh how I loath thee font of symbian phones.
Steve.. not sure what has happened but my loyal nokia n95 wont get past the home screen. any other page i get a blank background and nothing else. do you think its given up the ghost?
merry xmas steve. excellent year from you, finally joined you and i'm fed up of blackberry, gonna sell my bold in january but dont know which platform to invest in. dont want the iphone so its symbian, android or web os
i know what i'm about to say is wrong, in the ending where you shot a clip of you in the snow why does it look like you and the background were shot seperatley and mixed with green screen?
8-) All genuine, I assure you. That's my garden! I have played with green screen for The Phones Show in the past, but it's always been far too horrible for inclusion.

@sminhle Yes very durable. The shiny parts are metal and long-lasting 8-)

How is the build quality of the E72??
The battery cover in presise.
On my E52 build quality is very disapointing :S
Battery cover is moving a litle on the adges and there is a litle space gap in the bottom.
How is the E72?
Reagrads!

Battery cover is, again, not an exact fit 8-(

what was that Gtalk app shown 05:28 and does it support the i8910 HD
bigv1 2 years ago
It's an E72-only app so far. Will doubtless make it onto other devices though. Maybe not Samsung, mind you!

Sorry, no idea, never used Mail for Exchange in earnest.... Keep badgering the IT person....

Thank you very much! BTW,I've started using Nimbuzz instead of fring as recommended by you. So far so good!
mavericke2006 2 years ago
I very much enjoyed your review of the E72. After waiting, waiting and more waiting I gave up, but now I'm considering buying it.
However, is the qwerty keyboard still a bit cumbersome to use? I'd be mainly using it for instant messaging and watching videos.
Leonis1989 2 years ago
Watching videos? on a 2.4" screen? Keyboard is fine though 8-)

Leonis1989 2 years ago
Steve, instead of using Nimbuzz, what do you think about Fring?
mavericke2006 2 years ago
Don't like it as much. Video calling is too laggy, and it insists on auto-running/starting and getting in the way.... Nimbuzz wins, for me, at least.

Thank you Steve! Much appreciated.

You are doing a great job Steve....
I would like to know what is your opinion about Samsung G810.. i know its a bit old but i'm going to get one soon, that's why..

Great hardware, if chunky. But software is flaky - don't pay top whack etc.

N79, of that bunch. But a second hand N95 8GB will be better in the long run.

What would you advise Steve - N97 or N900? You think there will be as many apps available on N900 in future as on the N97 nowadays ?
btw - great show, like always!
