This was truly a great movie-

Hannes Messmer, who played the German Colonel, really spoke Italian quite well. He was a fine actor.

the ONLY objection I had to DeSica was, he lived as a pompous captitalist and supported the italian communist party-

Hypocrite, Schizophrenic, or what?

And, he hated the Church-

He hated all that made him so successful.

In 'Generale della Rovere' Vittorio DeSica gives one of the best dramatic performances ever captured on film !!! Fantastic !!!
