@ShelterDogs basically, they just pick it up, empty and bait, then dump back over, while the guy is doing the emptying and baiting, the captain's turning the boat to set the trap back in nearly the same spot.
@flamedrag18 Thanks for explaining this to me. Do you work on a lobster boat by any chance? I would like to work on one because I heard it is good money. But these jobs seem difficult to get. You call them and they don't call back.
@ShelterDogs yes I do work on one, in area 26B, western Cape Breton .
well, if you look around the right places, you may find a job, but with the economy collapse, captains are often selling out or laying workers off due to financial difficulties and are fishing with fewer workers, so getting a job is tough, I'm lucky I was born into a fishing family.
it's not always the best money either, since if your working on percentage of the catch, it really depends on how much you guys make, really hard.
@flamedrag18 Interesting. I figured it was like anything else in this economy. I just googled Cape Breton. Looks like a beautiful place to live and fish!
where do they store the pots?

@JoanJettforever its not like deadliest catch...they just either keep it on the washboard to move the gear or drop back where it was.

casey is right. a boat that size new is at least $250,000. a new 30' boat will run about $100,000.
or you can get a used one. My boat cost $10,000, but then again i've put about another $8,000 into it...
