  • If I were ill, I couldn't even stand on my feet.

He's the best ice skater I've ever seen.

  • We are all humans and we all make mistakes ... for me is Alexei still the best no matter how many mistakes he do ... for me is he the King of figure skating!! Alexei...you are just simply the best! <3

  • Aw. I just want to give him a hug after this performance.

Good thing he became so acclaimed afterwards! Ilia deserved to win and didn't become as well-known as Yagudin though, everyone gets their chance :)

  • How frustrating that must have been for him, having to skate through an illness. I'm so glad that things went much, much better for him 4 years later. He was a great champion and so deserving, unbeatable in Salt Lake.

  • I just watched the whole thing and I just hate the end, when they are waiting for the results and Mishin leaves him alone in the kiss & cry area. So cold and so cruel. And if he does that in front of the whole world, when Alexei most needed his support, I don't even want to imagine him the rest of the time. No wonder Alexei went to Tarasova.

  • まだ帝王じゃない時のヤグディんだーー

  • Could anyone tell me what classical composing the background music is from ? Thanks so so much. The music is too great !

  • Does anyone have his program skating song lists? I'm trying to remember what songs he skated to throughout his career. He was one of my favs.

  • Signs of a champion..................nice performance here, but Kulik was crazy.

  • какой ужас. и это олимпийский чемпион?

  • i think every sportsmen should have a respect to all of couches who ever worked with. Mishin is a geat couch as well and he brought Aleksei to the olimpics 1998 in quite high level of skating.

  • I love this programme !!!

  • Well, this program does not do him any favor.. i'm so happy he started to work with Tarasova.. she invested her heart and sole in him, and then Alexei could truly shine, with all those amazing programs and choreos!

  • Так попробуй с воспалением легких откататься безошибочно!

  • He's still wonderful. No matter what he does. Wether he makes mistakes or not. He's still number 1 in my book.

  • i love alexei's skating. just amazing. almost makes me cry.

  • Wow, Kulik and Yagudin - two GREAT talents but very different skaters. Yagudin - talented all around skater. Kulik- breathtaking jumps and bauil-like star quality on ice. I love them both!

  • Music is great !!

  • A 5th place Olympic finish at age 17 is pretty impressive already. And look how he turned out four years later..

  • if had not fell where he normally NEVER fell actually, he would have been way up in his Olymp. ranking.. like with that Quad, for instance, and 2 (!) falls! so not typical for him.. but he was 17.. hello..

  • @outthehead

actually, he caught a cold or flu before the long program in 98 olympics, and was skating this LP with high fever. i am amazed that he could still finish the program and ranked 5th in such health condition.

  • Just think-- if he had gotten like 2nd or 3rd, there wouldn't have been a big flare up with Mishin and Alexei might have stayed in Russia. That means we never would have seen all of his best programs (Winter, Gladiator, MITIM, etc).

  • Yeah..it's pretty obvious that he was sick.

You can see he's got a lot more flexibility than Kulik ..He's a very good skater indeed

  • What's the music piece called up till 1.04?

  • All this music is by Georgy Sviridov.Musical illustrations after Pushkin's novel "Metel", or in English, "The Snowstorm".Here you can hear such parts:Troika,Romance,Waltz,Spring and autumn. And at the very end piece Rumba of another movie Time Forward!

  • Yagudin the best!

Nothing can't change that! He's the first!

  • definately would have got a medal if not been ill, but he may not have stayed eligable if he had won and we may not have seen all his amazing ness afterwards...

  • Who composed this troika??

  • Georgy Sviridov

  • Thanks! I thought I'd never get a reply!

  • YAGUDIN WOULD HAVE EASILY WON (if he wasn't sick) - most of the others wouldn'r have even come if they were this sick.

    Yagudin...so brave..so elegant...we love you Alexei

  • It's such a shame he was sick, he's a far, far better skater than Kulik. Better spins, FAR better footwork, WAY better expression and creativity and spark, and when he's at the top of his game I even like his jumps better. I've he'd been feeling well, I'd bet he'd have won 2 olympic golds, not one. Not that it matters in the end. I did like Kulik's SP in Nagano.

  • so young and he had sooo brown hair at that time :O)

cute, but I prefer his later programms, also because he looks much smarter with the blond hair *gg*

  • oh so young lol
