pontius pilatus was the man who ordered to execute jesus, but before he asked a crowd wether they wanted jesus or a murderer to be pardoned. they decided for the murderer so jesus had to die, but in the end pilatus washed his hands to say "i was not the one who wanted him dead"

however this crowd was jewish, so many people may believe, the jews killed jesus. in fact there could only have been about 400 jews who could never speak for all. it also not sure if they really were jews or romans
