LukeSWalker I agree with you,some Epica songs like Death of a Dream,Semblance of Liberty,MoV or Kingdom of heaven are really agressive and heavier than most Tristania songs,i cant think of a Tristania song as fast and heavy as DoaD" but still Tristania is a lot more darker and has more growls,and unlike mark´s, Morten´s growls sound very black metal,but they are completely different cause Tristania is gothic and Epica is symphonic,but both are very heavy and metal and I love both the same!

Some Metal bands have used influences from Goth musicians such as Andrew Eldritch, Peter Murphy, and Valor Kand but still none of it is goth. It used to be confusing for me as well because I was a poser but I latter accepted the truth.. Sure their is alot of great art work in Tristania's music. :D
