Even after 6 years, having gotten to know countless bands, I still fucking LOVE these older songs of Dimmu. They just can't be topped by anything. (grammarfail)
man i loved dimmu borgir's album how every album was different from each other and focused on a certain instrument. in this albums case, the keyboards.
Please check a Death/Black band which is very good in my channel called Dusk Chapel I try to advertise them to make them famous because noone knows how to listen to great music nowadays... It's one from the rare bands like Death and the father of Death Metal and master musician Chuck Schuldiner that make all the songs of one album masterpieces and not just one or two songs... Here is a sample: watch?v=Kawf4mTM6qI. Copy paste on google as it is or on the address bar of youtube Spread the word!
Underrated song. 4.08 is so beautiful. I remember when I first listened to the album for the first time 10 years ago when I was 16. Couldnt sleep all night. Classic album. Perhaps the best ever made.
@LegionNorge He probably cant. His letter and reasons for firing Mustis and Vortex were pretty brutal. It's posted on the internet. I'm not sure if you can take all the things he said back (Shagrath). Furthermore, Vortex is or was in legal battle with Shagrath over some of the music produced.
Dimmu was always the best at keyboarding--it makes them a whole lot more superior over their co-black metal bands, whether it be Stian or Mustis. Crazy lead solos were only around during their album SBD, which is thanks to Astennu. Also, the amazing clean vocals of Vortex was possibly why Dimmu even got mainstream notice, and lastly Nick Barker automatically gets the best drummer title. So best line up? Shagrath, Silenoz, Astennu, Vortex, Mustis, and Nick Barker.
I agree with everything you just said. While i think Stian Aarstad is one of the most talented piano/keyboard players I've ever heard, i think Mustis fits a bit better in Dimmu.
No shit Shagrath's vocals are WAAAAY different in this album...it was until Puritanical that he changed his vocals to the crappy ones. Well...they were alright.
@FallenSkorm This is an epic album for sure, and definitely my favourite. I really enjoyed "Spiritual Black Dimensions" and "Death Cult Armageddon," but I wasn't really partial to "In Sorte Diaboli" and "Abrahadabra."
Class song, and definiyely an excellent standout song for me. This album has loads of standouts anyway, and not just two or three like on todays mainstream pop acts and mainstream metal albums.
this album aint too bad.Of course as soon as they signed to nucler blast they watered down the songwriting but there's still some nice melodies to be found here reminiscent of the mighty stormblast and for all tid days....
@horriblequin : on Enthroned Darkness Triumphant is Stian Arstad on the Keyboart, Mustis (Øyvind Johan Mustaparta) plays at Spiritual Black Dimension.
Back when metal had heart and was...epic. Dimmu Borgir will always be one of the most atmospheric bands for me. They're just not the same...as most other black/symphonic metal bands.
if you like this album, listen to Sear Bliss's Glory And Perdition,
for me it is very similar in nature to this album,, very very atmospheric and allot of melancholy, with people who can actually play there instruments and write good songs..
for me Dimmu Borgir's true successors.(early Dimmu Borgir that is)
I agree entirely. The gloomy, dark symphonies are what separate Dimmu B. from the rest. I wish metal was like this now... so captivating. Songs like this and other notable ones like 'Entrance' will always stay with me.
Actually that melody starts at 3:15. It's probably the best line DB ever wrote. If you liked that you should try to get the album "And Our Time Announces Black" by the polish band Eblis. It sounds about like a 3 way cross betweeen Finnugor (early), Limbonic Art (In Abhorrence Dementia), Midvinter (At The Sight Of the Apocalypse Dragon). It has several orchestrations similar to Limbonic, but in a unbelievablely melodic phase. The CD is extremely hard to find- but well worth.
damn, i like black metal man, but dimmu borgir has got to be the best. they have awesome beats, awesome variety, and the vocals are just kickass. another song i like by them is puritania, but this is their best album by far man..
This is one of Dimmu's most forgotten songs. The keyboard is just plain amazing, I think they don't play it live because Mustis cannot play the song like Stian.
Just an EPIC album!!!
