  • Who else was screaming in rage at 4:40?

  • On

  • Off

  • Op

  • I definitely want to play the cello

  • amazing!!!!

  • nice fail crowd

  • @cello39mn I was so angry.

  • Robert's resume makes me feel like the most useless piece of shit. Juilliard trrained musician, Masters in Music @ Yale, BS in Bio from Marist, Neurology research @ Harvard... Suddenly my life seems pointless.

  • @jamaq ... Hey guy... wake up... Life is worth living just because we can 'listen' and enjoy how the great masters play. I dont even know how to hold a violin, let alone scrape the bow on it.... am greatly thankful to god or powers of nature that made me blessed with the love of music.... Just because you cant do what others cant do does not mean you are a piece of shit. Thankfully, probably, you dont watch porn either LOL

  • love seeing joshua having some fun at 7:33 :)

  • oh gosh... stupid people. it wasn't over....

  • Why Are you calling " song" this music? It's not a song

  • @friulano lol i see you are one of those guys. I bet you also hate hearing classical music on an electric guitar too.

  • @friulano how is not a song lol

  • Now THIS is REAL music. Not Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kesha, or any of that other techno bullshit. This is what TRUE music is and always will be.

  • WAP-WAP2

  • 4:49 SIT THE FUCK DOWN. you guys are dumb

  • He's double chin gives off good bass.

  • @oomskaap LOOOOL

  • I've played this as a duet a few months ago as the viola part!!

  • why does he have a indian last name?

  • Joontae

  • I like how robert's doublechin sits on his violin.

  • damn i seen better heads on a cabbage

  • SPLENDIFEROUS!

  • Such a Beautiful Song. Simply amazing.

  • JANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

  • oh my gosh, watching this at work and almost clapped loudly at the end....so very good.

  • @syche8 COL!

  • Is it me, or do all musicians have just enough bouffant in their hair to make a little flippy motion when they play

  • 26 people listen to too much Kesha

  • @akaCharlieG or dubstep for that matter.

  • I gotta give it to 'em. They've got some amazing haircuts

  • It's funny to see, when they applaused in the middle of the piece, how people's patience is trained to listen to an average 4:30 min music...

  • The one guy has enough chins for two violins!

  • @dryan22 MADE ME LOL!

  • 0:56 is the classical gesture for we're fucking killing this song man!

  • GAY xD ; but honestly they are truly magnificent , listened to it 3 times in a row, and I'll come back

  • Music Buddies! ^^

  • 26 people accidentally hit the dislike button, and they apologize.

  • wow

  • HA!!! Audiences....

  • I love seeing tears in the eyes of musicians, when the beauty of what's been written reveals itself in their playing.

  • Would be funny if the crowd was too cautious the second time and had 30 seconds of silence at the end.

  • sounds like BWV998 fugue...

  • très joli:)

  • Most people like a little more reverb on their strings .

  • 0:58 mmhmmmmmm

  • eye contact is a little creepy

  • @stickybelvedere I hope you're joking. When you're playing a nine-minute long piece, eye contact is necessary so both musicians are on the same page. One misplaced note could ruin the whole thing.

  • Bravi! ...so into the brilliance moment I applauded the video ...feeling a bit sheepish but this was a wondrous nine minutes

  • beeeeeautiful!!! I love when there's music on TED. :)

  • fifty

  • why did they have to take the viola part and put it on cello? yes it was beautiful, but we violas always get screwed over, can only remember a single piece where we had the melody, and it was a Christmas carol...

  • I know is mean but... i can't take my eyes out of that second chin.

  • Entertainment is arbitrary and have no meaning.

  • @absolite has no meaning you idiot

  • I had some friends prepare and perform this on cello and marimba. It takes a lot of work and these guys do a great job.

  • OMG i love that cello

  • Seldomly I hear a violinist play as excellent as this recording - in pitch :)

  • Finally some music with substance on TED! Not exactly innovative but cool stuff anyway. Cellist = crazy good, wow.

  • Ooh, I love this piece!

  • lol, they totally had that applause coming midway, they put waaay too much space between the next variation and Robert Gupta put his violin down to pizz, which I don't get why he did that...

  • So many emotions packed into one musical piece, made evident by how their expressions change as they play. It moved me greatly.

  • They are enjoying it themselves more than we... im so jealous of that... i imagine how much fun they had while preparing this performance

  • Wow those guys are experts and obviously love what they do. I'd like to hear more of there stuff.

  • Creativity has always been the driving force for humanity.... In this brilliant display of musical harmony, the musicians had practiced for countless hours, endured the sacrifice of determination, and enjoyed the praise of their listeners. Who is to thank here? The musician, or the instrument maker? Who is the ultimate creator? Think about it next time you drive to work.

  • by the end of the piece, the violinist was skinny.

  • half of my mind is focused on the dude's double chin ugh!!!!

  • Amazing !!!

but i coudlnt help but notice when they played the fast song

the guy's cheeks were flappin like crazy lol.

  • fuck that was amazing

  • Such tallent! :D I'm jealous.

  • where can i find more of this type of music? what i

    s it called?

  • @iseeacircle

    "classical" ;)

Perhaps not precisely up your alley, but you may like Rachmaninov's piano compositions, which are also fluid and chaotic at the same time.

  • @iseeacircle This is music from the late romantic period in the western classical tradition, but its based on baroque music by Georg F. Haendel. If you like this you might want to listen to J. S. Bach's works for cello and for solo violin, I would encourage you to listen to the Brandenburg Concerti as well, and numerous other baroque masterpieces, try Haendel's Water Music and his music for the royal fireworks.

  • This is the most amazing thing TED has ever posted.

  • Comment removed

  • Incredibly beautiful.

  • If you have complaints after that performance it's time to start blowing your prozacs.

  • This was spectacular.

  • A remarkable performance by two talented musicians - and so many of the comments focus only on their appearance. That is sad.

  • I wanna eat his double chin

  • @Sonofdracula1 but then you realized you were full after eating all that dick

  • @JacoblCanada I can see that he is being a dick but please don't make dick jokes/insults...they just don't work any more...

  • @MNiTFTW well 2 people seem to think they do..& if i listened to what other people thought was funny..then i'd be like everyone else on this video making fat jokes..so which joke really isnt funny

  • @JacoblCanada Neither of them are funny. And the two people who liked your comment agreed with you meaning that they were supporting your hate towards him. Not that they liked your insult

  • @MNiTFTW the only way you could possibly know that is if you were them..im done with this pointless conversation..keep your opinions to yourself and others of your kind..i don't care much for them

  • @JacoblCanada I could say the same thing for your original comment. You didnt like what he was saying so you should of kept it to yourself you hypocritical bastard

  • @MNiTFTW again..you don't know if he cares about my opinion unless you are him..you're just throwing around assumptions like crazy..i think you just like to have online conversations..well im sorry to dissapoint you but im done with this..have fun replying to this and forever waiting for my non existing reply

  • I keep watching this. I just like it a lot.

  • Excellent balance of performance between the two players! Thank you for sharing.

  • the one on the left is fat!

  • @aysen1001 and your point is???

  • @cyclop41 shut up. no one asked your apinion

  • @cyclop41 and no one asked you if he was fat or not

  • Comment removed

  • imagine teaching this guy to play violin... just put it under your chin. No, Other chin! bahahahahahahah

  • Sweet! :D

  • 13 people are either jealous or pretentious

  • He was slightly sharp at 1:46. I can't listen to this. It sucks.

  • i clicked on this thinking "damn, im doing something so i wont be able to watch this, i`ll just hear audio" everything went better then i expected =)

  • @mindlesstube Well... If the definition of entertainment is, according to your channel, watching AMVs ambiented with metal, and Stacraft fast raids, trying to get some classical music culture into your head seems like a hard challenge. Please, return to your sleep, or go listen to something that pleases you.

  • @GravityOn I did not say anything about my channel representing entertainment. What i was trying to point out is that anything can be considered entertainment. You can get away with putting anything out there and call it entertainment as long as 1 person finds it entertaining, because something to be considered entertaining is a personal opinion. So if one were to say why is this video here you can and forever will say one person finds it entertaining thus applies to the title entertainment.

  • 4:35 the song ain't over, watch Gupta shake his stick at the premature standing-O

  • Calming

  • all that extra padding on his chin must help him play the violin for prolonged periods of time

  • @omglolzbbqsauce 100% agreed

  • @omglolzbbqsauce 100% agreed ... no matter how much he moved his head .......the violin stay so still with out a shake

  • Love it !

I hate the room though.. Soft furniture >.> horrible sound.

  • beautiful

and the emotion behind this is simply stunning

  • Wow a fat musician that does not sweat I'm impressed

  • Has TED been always like this? I thought it's supposed to be only science.

  • @thankqwerty Yes. TED stands for Technology Entertainment Design and they have incorporated dancing, music and other forms of entertainment in their previous conferences.

  • jabba the hut plays violin...

  • Entrancing.

  • One of the notes is making my teeth hurt....

  • @ThePoli0Pollo Self resonance maybe :p

  • They inspired me to pick up my trumpet.

There were a few moments when they seemed to play very simple notes. I have come to a point where I need to improve a lot, but can't. I think that I need to go back to the basics and master them, so that I can start enjoying the harder stuff. *shrug*

  • 4:35 o povo acha que a musica acabou e aplaude huaauhauhauhauahuahua

  • that was a beautiful little adventure :)

  • @FUCKOFFYOURGAY Beautifully put even if your name is a bit crude.

  • @1stNightingale rofl i am sorry about that, very crude and down right disgusting. But i guess at least no one else can use it on me :) I'm sure you would have seen it before but for anyone who hasn't watch?v=6WhWDCw3Mng Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir 2.0, 'Sleep'

  • @FUCKOFFYOURGAY Not my fav song but a great piece anyway and i understand what you are getting at with your name.

  • And please don't accidentally read into that comment, my name is disgusting, not what it refers too.

  • Honestly can we please just discuss the music and not how dim people can be sometimes.

  • not a huge fan of this type of music but this was amazing.

  • TED=Technology, Entertainment and Design. This fits into entertainment. So stop FUCKING COMPLAINING!!

  • @Kelertasable so where is the entertainment? Cause I feel asleep waiting for it.

  • Comment removed

  • @mindlesstube - Entertainment = 0:15 - 8:50, just because you lack appreciation for some of the finer things doesn't mean that it is not entertaining. These men devoted much of their lives to practicing so that we could enjoy this music. If you would like to educate yourself on the value of classical music you should watch another TED video on here, "Benjamin Zander: Classical music with shining eyes" Great speaker! :)

  • @Kelertasable yeah its about IDEAS pertaining to entertainment, NOT a stage for people to push their music or their fucking product

  • @KaylinJH whats your deal? who doesnt like music? This is entertainment. Atleast it's not some sexist woman rant.

  • @msteeves01 didnt you read my comment at all?

  • @KaylinJH Who said its limited to ideas? The catch phrase "ideas worth spreading" is just that, a catch phrase. People do demonstrations about technological devices, bioluminescence, etc. TED has had performing art in its conferences since the first one. Although, the entertainment portion is really not why I watch (tech), it is, has been, and probably will be a standard of TED. I would just be happy if they simply limited it to simply Technology, Entertainment, and Design.

  • I'm not familiar with this song or most classical pieces but this is extraordinary

  • It's Technology, ENTERTAINMENT and Design, people.

  • YES!

  • I love this song but I prefer it with a bit more intensity lol. Still, very beautiful!

  • 4:42 those people get up to do a standing ovation... then got owned when Robert and Joshua kept going. Must feel like idiots

  • @definitionz

Ya know, I don't think they regretted anything

  • Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love this song... i listen to it all the time...

  • Not the usual type I watch on TED but I quite enjoyed it :)

  • Very well done, even if the piece may not be the most inspiring to me.It's a complex piece of music superbly performed on instrument with incredible tones. I hope I'm not alone in my appreciation for the talent here, even if their choice in music may not be the most exciting.

  • Me gusta.

  • I bet they got laid shortly after

  • What a nice relaxing video to come home to on a Friday =D

  • Damn, those two are rock stars!

  • I love all the music on TED. I'm a lover of classical music and this is very great.

  • I acknowledge that their performance is the product of a great deal of talent and practice. I admire their dedication to music. Maybe I am not cultured but there are about 10 classical songs that I like but that's it. This music has zero appeal to me personally.

  • the fat guy is really great

  • Comment removed

  • Wow!

  • If u watch TED oftenly and u'r complaining about this video I'll lower my expectations about humanity.

  • @Lascalla "Oftenly"???

  • @Fiddlinjosie Sorry, I meant "frequently". English is not my mother language so I tend to commit this kind of mistake "oftenly" LOL anyways, thank you for pointing that out.

  • Just wow, great job guys

  • This is the finer way to do a Talk...

  • This is soooo good! It's unbelievable.

  • Comment removed

  • Damn that was good. It made me cry :) Not sure if I've ever heard that piece before but I loved it :)

  • I loved this. Too bad they got interrupted halfway through.

  • Greatly played and very difficult, i'm sure but not a very beautiful piece.......if i may say

  • lol you'd think TED followers are smart.

  • he looks like jabba the hutt in the pic :D!!

  • makes me wanna do cello again

  • amazing!

  • Nooooo! Viola is awesome! Why replace it with a cello?? better than a violin i guess...
