  • back and taught it here. One cannot underestimate the important role she played in the development of modern American theater.

In her silent films however she was often given over to the eye popping ,huge gestures- style popular in silent film. This is a shame to say the least. In her later films with sound she returns to her naturalistic style , check it out in Since You Went Away.

  • @berdachenyc Nazimova could be much more natural in the talkies. But I thing either the expressionist or the naturalistic styles matched well the characteristics of the silent screen and the talking pictures. I love Nazimova in Salome and even in Camille - she created a strong style there.

  • some of the critics described some of the films alla nazimova produced as "bizarre stuff" even then. she was hollywoods first lesbian. and this scene by the way never happened in real life. it was POLA NEGRI THAT FAINTED AND PROCALIMED TO HAVE BEEN ENGAGED TO RUDY. although there is no proof of this. some she put on a "show".

  • @hisluckienstar614 That's right. From the twenties on the public and the critics preferred the naturalistic type of acting, so Nazimova began to be criticized. I heard about the Pola Negri tale too. It's fun however to watch Leslie Caron portraying this mix of Alla and Pola!

  • Nazimova was the definition of "affected".

  • @ccipollini1984 You're right. I find her different but great.

  • That's great. There should be a movie made about Nazimova. What a larger than life personality. But actually it was Pola Negri that draped herself across Valentino's coffin and then fainted, apparently losing legions of fans in the process. Fascinating women!

  • @happylilsunbeam

    I'm thinking of another word...

  • @happylilsunbeam Ya!!!

  • Perfeito, bem teatral, dificil ver uma cena pitoresca como essa em filmes.

Grande homenagem do diretor à surreal Nazimova.
