They will truly think I'm nuts, but as the art teacher they probably already do, so I m so going to try this!!!! We have nothing at my school for printmaking, so I thought I would have to skip it.... Now i dont have to! Thank u much for the video demo!
Most etching presses generate thousands of pounds. Unlike a bottle jack which creates pressure over a broad area and etching press uses force only where the two rollers actually meet. So a small press can generate a large amount of pressure exerted on a very small area. I think a BJP could work if you had a REALLY strong one (10 ton or better) and if the pressure was forced onto a smaller area. Good Luck!!!
I have a few more questions and I hope you can help me: How many lbs. is required for an etching press? How much is too much? The Ritchie halfwood press is very small--how can they offer much pressure? Bottle jacks are inexpensive ranging from 2+ tons--is 2 tons enough? Can a BJP work for etchings or does it need to have rollers? Can I press w/ 2 cars (SUV's) perhaps using a perpendicular beam to distribute the weight? Thank you! I'm determined to print without a press!
No, I wish it could work .but you need 10 times as much pressure for an etching. I think this will also work for mono print, collographs and of course relief
