Paul Kossoff had a really unique left handed vibrato technique and always had a warm ,rich and creamy over-driven tone when he played .His music has proven to be enduring and inspiring.I remember seeing a stage full of more modern guitarists including ,Satch , Vai etc performing 'Alright Now' (1990's) and , to my ears, none of these guys had any of the feel ,passion or delivery that Koss had !
I met this great man David Kossoff at my Dads old school telling stories to school kids (where he actually let me touch one of Paul's Gibson Les Pauls). The night before I attended his packed stage talk show about Paul at our towns main theater. He was sat in an easy chair on stage with Paul's guitars on stands and captivated the audience. Very moving and I am sure his talk put many off the idea of taking drugs. RIP Paul and David.
I was sent this link by my friend, Daniel Jones of the Hawai'ian band, 7th Order. I live in Perth, Western Australia and present a program on RTRFM92.1 called Woodstock Rock that regularly plays Yes. This doco is important in that it keeps important music alive and reminds us of how much we are robbed of as a civilization by drugs. Speak his name, continue to love his music and Paul will live on in spirit and in our hearts. shy swan. <3
the gospel of Koss must be spread..... not enough people know... so underrated...... so incredible..... he could say more in one note than most could in a billion.... Cheers, Paul K.
"rip paul . you where taken from us to late , pure talent ."
@dave2806 It's "were" (not "where"); "too" (not "to")...and no extra space is needed prior to each punctuation mark. And really, you mean "taken from us too EARLY"...not "taken from us to LATE." I know, I know. Rock 'n' rollers aren't supposed to be very intelligent or literate or even sentient. But still. At least try.
I fear losing my fingers or getting arthritis! Take a close look at Keith Richard's hands and fingers now----you can see the classic goose neck Z shape of arthritis now.
Forget the bullocks. All you have to do is listen to that sound, that technique. Very often imitated never ever quite duplicated. I have chased that sound for twenty years. I can play the notes. but as to the sound, not even close. I will continue to chase that vibrato. I am guessing that as Howard Leese said it requires you to use you whole body. What a shame to loose him so soon. May God have mercy on his soul.
I still remember when he was still alive, I was 5 or 6 years old listening to Kossoff when my older brother would play the album "Fire and Water". I was entranced when he would go into his soulful leads, even at 5 or 6 years of age Paul Kossoff blew me away. And how compassionate of his father, David Kossoff to give these public talks about his son Paul Kossoff and talk of the dangers of drugs. Rest easy both Father and Son....Paul "Koss" Kossoff...gone but never forgotten.
Brilliant and touching..Wrote assignment on Paul in secondary schools 35 years ago. Way before internet. Got all info on the cover of Koss. Thank you for making this available.
I'd heard of this performance years ago and found it quite by accident on YT. I have been a huge fan of Koss over the years, he remains a major influence on me as a guitarist. Free's story, and indeed his story is one of the most tragic tales ever. They were so young yet wrote songs way beyond their years. I am supremely grateful to have seen this - I thank you for posting this.
:-)..thanks for this..i saw his dad perform 'the late great paul' several times. koss really floats my boat..has done n still for 35years. much luv n that.

@rimmsey7 - I'm not sure I can agree 100%. For one thing, he's been dead six years.

Moving indeed. Tasteful, thoughtful, insightful, with a strong message, yet without preaching.. Tks for uploading.
