This is a thoughtful and heartfelt performance. I am a professional cellist, and an amateur guitarist. I know almost nothing about this composer, so thanks for uploading this excellent performance of his music!
Now I can go ahead and transcribe the music with confidence. Also I've listened to a lot of music by you on "You Tube". I was wondering if it's possible to purchase your transcriptions. Both for old and new music. Thanks,
Yes, it's true. And remember that the lute was tunes a minor third above the modern guitar. E=G but while transcribing this you don't have to think about that. Good luck!
you & I are the few to play this music in the ether. Galileo's father wrote the most beautiful and profound music for the lute to this day. (who cares when he was born -- long live Galilei)
Hello? Michelangelo died 3rd. January 1631! No one knows his birth date but it's very possible he lived and composed this 1570 as it says in the facsimilie! Why do you doubt this? Do you have other information? And, yes, I would play this on a lute if I could. But I can't. And I love this music too much not to play it.... sorry...
Sorry, but we know very well when he was born! If you bothered to check your sources, you'd find that he was born in Florence, 18 Dec 1575; died Florence, 3 Jan 1631. See New Grove for example.
OK, I rest my case. In my source it's mentioned that no one knows his birhtdate... I am sorry. I am only sorry you sound so agressive and critical... Isn't it all about beautiful music? Are you mad at me, playing his music?

Hi there! Thank you. It's nice a 14 year old os listening to this old music! :-) As you can hear I love it.
I can only advice you to get a good teacher and learn how to read music! That is very important if you want to be good. And of course practice a lot! And love the music and instrument!!
SO, Peo, you have met your match...The Key of F# Minor! Interestingly, if you'd put the capo one fret further back it would be in the original key of pain in the...sorry, F# Minor, would it not?
However, the piece is very beautiful the way you play it.
LOL... I explain in an earllier commet why I have the capo in III. It's because of the guitars sound... and, yes, I would hate to play this in F#-minor without capo! :-)
Tak.
You seem to be "rolling" most of the chords. it's a personal preference, and it is up to the performer to choose. but it seems like i would like to hear some solid chords in a lot of spots. I like rolling a chord at the end of a phrase, or using it as an ornament so to speak. You have beautiful tone and a great sense natural musical intuition. keep it up.
Three things to mention. 1st, as always, a nice performance of a lovely piece of music.
2nd, the quality of your recordings seems to be improving over time. What type of microphones, recording program, etc. do you use? 3rd, have you published the sheet music for this piece? If yes, where can I get it?
Again, I always enjoy your playing. Please continue to do so.
Another masterpiece performed by the master. You probably don't even truly realize how INCREDIBLE your playing is. At least, as it is perceived by your faithful YouTube audience. :)
nice, so why not just move the capo down a fret to the original key? just a personal preference (Gm) ? you play very well, would you be interested in looking at the arrengment I had made fo fur Elise?
Andante, I listen to your music which is the most important part of the musical story. But, I watch the video in complete amazement with the coordination needed to play such masterful classics.

Hey Peo!! I like your smile It makes me smile too! A very lovley piece and you play it adorable! Thanks for part your gift with us! It's amazing! How was your concert in frankfurt?
Peo! This is really fantastic music. I can't believe this is renaissance music, and I must say it's absolutely fabulous. Your sound and expression is awesome, too. And I really have to play that. Just allow me one question: Why didn't you simply move the capo one step down, to get F# minor instead of G minor? And maybe it would be easier to play with renaissance tuning (E A D F# B E)? Best Regards, Wilfried
Thanks for your hints. Wow. it's strange, but every instrument (even the best ones) seems to have at least one weak point. Maybe that's a good thing to keep our sanity ;)
However it sounds fabulous in this recording. So it likes the G minor scale? Just as my ukulele does ;)
Perfectly lovely, Peo. Almost made me miss my ex, who taught renaissance music. Sometimes I miss living with the ever-present sound of this genre. Well, I miss the music, not the ex, haha. Yes, you do play it romantically, but you pull it off well. It sounds like firelight.
As a lutenist I guess you think I am too "romantic"... :) But I feel so strong about this music that I cannot help putting my "romanic" feelings into it... sorry!
Up in the Heavens they're listening along to the interpretation of Maestro Per, how delicate his fingers moves the strings and the tone he produces. Michel Angelo is giving his approval. Was this piece played on lute in those days Per? Great playing Per and a beautiful piece, rich in melody and harmony, greets Vic.
Another great renaissance piece, lovely performance!
Although Michelangelo has never heard it himself on a guitar, he (and his daddy) would be proud of you playing it like that. Maybe they are listening...shhh :)
Thanks Jasper! You are repeating yourself!! LOL (see above) I am sure they are listening and smiling at my attempt... I guess they will tell me what they think when I meet them... LOL
Another great renaissance piece, lovely performance!

Quite an interesting piece, played beautifully as always! Do you happen to know any of Sylvius Leopold Weiss's lute music? I think some of his pieces would suite your playing style really well! I'm sure you're probably too busy to take requests but I thought I'd ask anyway. :)
Thank you1 I love Weiss! I have played him always. But in an 11 stringed guitar by George Bolin. I sold it and now I don't like to play Weiss on my guitar... :-(
AH HA Per-Olov, I found another wonderful piece of music by you and I love it. It is so mellow and soft. Just once I would love to hear something crummy by you so that I can tell people that you are human (Just kidding) LOL. I love your work and I really think that big things will happen for you and I wish you the very best on your new CD. Thank you for posting this and God bless
I wonder what it feels like to have fingers that do what they're supposed to. I know what it sounds like ... thanks to you. My fingers ignore my instructions.
LOL. I think your fingers are doing a great job too!! What you don't see here is that I yell at my fingers before recording: BEHAVE! DO AS YOU'RE TOLD! Or else....!! I someties ieven give them "the finger"!
I wish I knew more English and more about music to be able to post an intelligent comment. But I can only listen and feel with my heart... I love you!

I just want to know how a six course lute tuning compares with that of a modern guitar.
I would like to transcribe music from an Italian style tablature . I read that the only difference is the F# tuning of he third string. Is this true?

Hi Per!
Another great renaissance piece, lovely performance!
Although Michelangelo has never heard it himself on a guitar, he (and his daddy) would be proud of you playing it like that. Maybe they are listening...shhh :)
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks my friend!

I wish I knew more English and more about music to be able to post an intelligent comment. But I can only listen and feel with my heart... I love you!

that's actually what I call an intelligent comment (far more than what we often see) and I totally agree with you about this guy's talent.

Dear lunalunanueva,
I wish I knew more Spanish to tell you properly how happy I am for knowing you.
I love you very much too. Eres la mejor!
