@FearNot1823 i totally agree with you, im an english rider and dressage isnt exactly one of the easiest things. I would love to try barrel racing but i dont think my 4 year old would be able to do it as he doesnt like turning virtually on the spot when cantering
i love both.... but i think i like barrels better than my jumping! i have done english for a long time but i started out on western hoping i could do barrels and my mom said it was too dangerous. But recently i rode a barrel horse and now i am not going to take no for an answer. I have been working and i got a 15.376 on my second run ever....... on my first run ever i got an 18.546 :)

hey just wanted to say glad you want to barrel race.......i would look for something with speed on top and cow bred on the bottom....also dont get anything over 15.3 hnds cause they start to get to big and less athletic . hope that helps just an opinion from me.....there are lots of ways to go haha :)
@barrel078 unless you're going to compete in a specific breed association you don't need a registered horse. You need 1 with a good body build and the willingness and love to run. QH's r great they are agile n QHX's are good as well
@barrel078 The type of horses I like to have and I have had and rode tons of breeds. is a race horse/ quarter horse. that is what my best B.R horses have been. They seem to have bigger balls lol but can be hyper. another good one is a paint they are very level headed.

@westerncowgurl4eva Don't jump in a western saddle, it hurts the horse's back. (Western saddles distribute the weight all over the back while a jumping saddle focuses mostly on the withers and upper back, giving the horse less to take over the bar and land with.) I do agree with you, though, I think english riders deserve respect just like western riders do, but if they start the fight I'll get p-oed.

english riders are not losers, i ride both and i like both i ride more western than english but thats because i feel more comfortable in western, neither one is really easier or hareder it just depends on how good your are at riding and you cant sit here and tell other people that what they do is stupid, easy or hard unless you've experienced both then you can put your input not that anyone really wants to read it or hear about it, if your talking crap about what someone does

hey not everyone that rides english are losers. Hell I ride english and western but I feel more comfortable in a english saddle now and I still barrel race and everything IN AN ENGLISH SADDLE. English is harder than it looks its like riding bareback except the stirrups. Western saddles gives you support and a horn to hang onto. Ha the top riders in the entire world rides both english and western but mostly english. It doesnt matter what a rider rides as long as they have a passion for the sport

long story...got involved in drugs which consumed me and married someone who didn't help my habit. My parents kept my horse (Miss Cash Request) and bred her twice while I was 'gone'. When I decided to come home and get my life straight I started riding again. A few month's later she broke her shoulder and I had to put her down. My brother took her colt and trained him for roping. I still have a mare out of her that we just broke.
I'm hoping to train her for barrels eventually, but it's hard working two jobs! When I get off work it's 6pm...doesn't leave much time for riding. I'm trying to talk my dad into fixing the arena lights, we'll see how that goes! lol

Just like with any other sport the horse is not programmed to do barrels there's ALOT of heart, spirit, courage, drive, and want put into this sport..

yea i think its funny how they claim they know EVERYTHING there is to horses and the sports their involved in. hey not everyone that rides english are losers. Hell I ride english and western but I feel more comfortable in a english saddle now and I still barrel race and everything IN AN ENGLISH SADDLE. English is harder than it looks its like riding bareback except the stirrups. Western saddles gives you support and a horn to hang onto. Ha the top riders in the entire world rides both english and western but mostly english. It doesnt matter what a rider rides as long as they have a passion for the sport

Thank you! I barrel race for fun, & at work I jump & race Arabians. I can not jump in a wester saddle, to many falls.
I barrel race my Clydesale (he isn't bad!), my AQH mares, Vanner, & my arabian for fun (at home)
I am more comfortable in an english saddle just because its what I learned on.
So how about we stop the English riders are losers because you haven't tried it then!

long story...got involved in drugs which consumed me and married someone who didn't help my habit. My parents kept my horse (Miss Cash Request) and bred her twice while I was 'gone'. When I decided to come home and get my life straight I started riding again. A few month's later she broke her shoulder and I had to put her down. My brother took her colt and trained him for roping. I still have a mare out of her that we just broke.

I'm not a barrel racer, but I know sure as hell they can outride alot of people. It's not like they're complete idiots who get on horses and run and turn around a barrel. There is alot of horsemanship involved, along with skill and heart. Plus, most barrel racers don't just barrel race, sweetheart. Alot of them do various other things like roping or whatever.
Before you say something about anything, make sure you know what you're talking about. Until then, shut up.

who says. gaited horses are JUST AS GOOD as non-gaited in barrel racing. ive seen T-walkers barrel race and kick QHs asses. not all QHs are short and stocky either. So no, Qhs arent always better at barrel racing
