It's a great camera for under $200. I tried almost a half dozen before settling on this one. It had the best low light performance. I bought 2 batteries on ebay for $12 which included shipping. This camera can't be beat. I edit with Microsoft Windows LIVE Moviemaker which opens the videos from this camera. I think I installed some codecs, maybe that made it work. I'm not professional, so it serves my needs. I have tried some trial programs for others, still not happy and searching.
hey can someone help me? i make a bunch of videos for youtube (you can go to my channel to see some) and i kinda want to buy this camera... do you think i should? or should i look at something else? i really don't want to spend more than 200 dollars and whatever camera i get has to take good pictures as well as good video
its a decent camera for the money. alot of people use the flip ultra hd also. i think that one is for $150 or so. i like the xacti because it uses flash cards that you can easily swap around, and it comes with rechargeable battery

do you know what editing system i could use? i would normally use windows movie maker but i hear it doesn't work with this camera... i also have a mac so i might use the software on that
If you have a Mac, then it's a no-brainer. Use iMovie. Windows Movie Maker is ass. The Xacti uses H.264 compression, which Apple has pioneered and pretty much made a standard for HD video compression. You get pristine video, but a much smaller file size than other compression formats. Mac OS X supports this format natively.
colors and macro are fantastic but it doesnt look so crisp like other cameras do :(

Stabilization tip: Hold also the LCD when filming, I tested it, and it works great!

iMovie works wonders with the Xacti. You have to find an editor that supports H.264. Macs do it natively.
