The ONE and ONLY movie(besise the classic 1960s herbie series) that immidiately take our mind and thoughts about the exotic 60's automotive magnificent achievements. Never will be in the future...movie, soundtrack and cars blend so sexily and so beautiful other than these classic. trust me..Italian mountain pristine scenery, On Days Like These, Monte Carlo, miura, minis(they won so many rallies in the 1960, no surprise they are so famous until present days) FUCK YOU Gary(2003 director)& Wahlberg
Roger Beckermann's Lamborghini Miura in the opening scene is actually two cars. The first was a Miura P400 that was sold as new afterwards. The car tumbled down the chasm by the Mafia bulldozer was another Miura that had been in a serious accident and was not roadworthy.
driving a Classic Lamborghini Miura (which the singer JK just happens to own one) through the Italian Alps while listening to Matt Monro singing On days like these is just automotive pornography....love it!
A great film, a wonderful voice, and one of my favourite lines in a film. When the Mafia boss tells Michael Caine that one of his friends died in the spot where they are all standing, he replies "SO"............
BEST FILM EVER! you can not copy a CLASSIC! they have tried! but it does not work!,.......................PURE CLASS!,.....ill say it agin PURE CLASS!
When I see this sequence... with the British cast... and a superlative British singer... in a film that did business internationally... and is always a joy to watch... I weep inwardly for the disappearance of a real British film industry.
Bit ludicrous that on a main road they would have sicilian organised this sort of event, on a fairly busy road, with a JCB at an end of a tunnel. But hey-ho, that is films for you.
@yippitydodah Its actually not that hard to believe.. I know Most of the Carbineri are involved with the mafia or are in some way paid by them... Its just part of life in Italy.. I'm sure an Italian will confirm it.. Does it make Italy a bad place ... ? No .... Most Italians are warm friendly and helpfull... Just dont behave like you do in the UK or the US
Yes, agreed. Brilliant food in Italy, and they dress suberbly. Us in Britain look like tramps compared. And what goes on indoors should be left indoors... : )
oops - that should be Milano. Have visited Torino a couple of times - beautiful city and people, with the snow covered Alps in the distance. Would love to live there, Ciao.
By the way, have you ever heard of Rita Pavone? Brilliant Italian, youtoob copy paste and search this as well, from 1964, when she was young - brilliant clip, clip brillante, godere, enjoy,
my dad took me to the see this film..he said when u can drive a car like that through a place like that you have made it. i tryed but never did. guess some can and others cant. sry dad.
@frog77 I think your dad would have been more proud to know you grew up with humility, honesty and courage to admit your failings, than to be among some people who appear to "achieve" much, but through dishonesty and at the cost of suffering of others.
I remember when I was five running away from home to go and look at a tangerine Miura that was parked a few streets away. Poor old mum called the police but I was sat happily adoring the car until it drove off…worth the beating.
I think it is my #1 tune I never got bored with.It just takes me somwhere...to my younger more innocent days...still with some hunger and hope in my heart ...It is nearly ...divine !
I think it is my #1 tune I never got bored with.It just takes me somwhere...to my younger more innocent days...still with some hunger and hope in my heart ...It ie nearly ...divine !
The new version of this film is what religious people would call 'blasphemy'. It should never have been made! This film is a true classic!!! Untouchable!!!
Actually the Miura was never restored since it wasn't even found the next day when they went to restore it, it is said in the official internet site of the film.
The Aston DB4 never went over the side of the mountain, it was a Lancia Mock up, in fact if you watch the video in slow motion you can see its not the DB4 (also the number plate is'nt the correct font!) God Im becoming an "anorak!!! and your correct both E types were restored. Also the muira was a mock up of parts not the original car you see driving before. (Thats it I am a "Anorak"!)
@ferraridinoman It was very upsetting. They should have had a note at the start of the film "No classic British or Italian cars were permanently damaged during the making of this film."
the miura was owned by a shieks son who crashed it and died in it, the 2 e types and aston were restored and are on the road today, the bus had its back doors welded and was used as a scottish school bus, then it was scrapped.
@rayvon57 It's not as bad as that (thank goodness!!), if you notice there is no engine in the car that goes over the cliff - it was a development chassis used by Ferrucio Lamborghini for crash testing and used by the film makers for the opening scene, also did you know that Michael Caine did'nt get his driving licence until 1983, all of his driving was done by a stunt man (not a lot of people know that....).
Where can I find this version of "On Days Like These"? It's not on the cd soundtrack or even the old LP soundtrack? Where can I find it? Thanks for any help!
Inspired, yet again, by this life affirming clip I just drove, ahem pushed, albeit really really fast, my yellow Lamborghini P400 GT Muira across the carpet. I bought it in 1971. Now it is going back in it's box.
I also have a silver one which I bought in 1974. By then Corgi build quality was going down the pan. Iffy build quality. Poor panel fit, disastrous paintwork. Etc.
this is one of those things ime going to do before i die (hopefilly) drive a lambo/ ferrari , in the alps , with this tune on !!! ........lottery win maybe required..ha ha.
I put this track on the cassette player in my 2 Litre Mk 2 Escort manual and drove up through the twisting roads in the Adelaide hills South Australia Circa1980's. Double de-clutching and "healing & toeing", I lived my fantasy on a bright Spring day. The song complements driving perfectly much like Mason Williams' Classical Gas.
totally brilliant,a fantastic film, great characters, beautiful photography, funny , a excellent plot......and a total British classic !!... thanks for posting this clip !!
Nice song BUT this film has some of the dumbest dialogue of any film I've seen, even for a British one. The rationale for some of the chase components are ridiculously stupid. Not a great fan of remakes, but I would definitely pick the remake as much better than this crap. Very disappointed, great fan of Caine, but this drek is worth missing.
@spagandtuna ....you are either too stupid to understand the dry humor and the dialogue itself or you are under 35...thats the only reason why someone would pick a piece of shit movie like the remake over this one
@bobbya16 I'm only saying the remake was better. Both actually sucked, but the original's various scenarios were dumb beyond dumb, and the dialogue what there was of it stupid and innane. Nothing "cool" about the movie stylistically either.
I totally agree, this is a classic British film in every way... the remake just had the same name..., this film is truly outstanding..,the photography the story the humour the acting, its fun and excellent entertainment !!!
@bobbya16 Mate, trying to explain anything British and the 1960's to spagandtuna is plainly a waste of time. He is obviously from another English speaking country other than Australia, NZ and Canada that has to be spoon fed humour.
Their sitcoms from the '70s and early 80's as you're probably aware, were nauseating shit that weren't worth watching. Mercifully, they have improved somewhat. As for the remake being better.... I wouldn't dignify spagandtuna's nonsense with a reply.
someone ask someone somewher to do clips of Benny Hill from this film, The Italian Job, together and post it on youtube. It will get quite a few hits, no doubt.
Benny liked big women, big, BIG, PASTA BIG. mmmmm....
@Kralhonj yes it was total shit!! bless the Americans, they should just stick to brilliant action movies, but nothing more...Die hard..for instance.. us British could not have made that..... but The Italian Job was a touch of class. it really was...x
