I'm a trumpet player and I've played this piece. There is nothing all that hard in this. They did do the natural trumpet thing in the first movement and assumed they were always playing the most important part. They should have blended with the alto sax soloist. (again, been there) And we had two different guys playing those muted trumpet solos in the second movement. The second guy totally botched it in contest. Our chair placement was (no seniors) junior, junior, freshman (me), junior.
u guys sound really good for a middle school band. the sax solo sounds really good! i myself am a clarinet player. and u guys sound awesome! i wish my band sounded like that when i was in middle school!
The intonation is really off the low brass section seems to go flat alot and the notes arent really that clear when the second clarinets come in but for it to be an 8th grade band good job

my middle school band played this along with prestissimo and ravensgate go to tayjayb to see it and you guys need tuneing big tiime but your oboe is good
we just played this song recently, i'd say its pretty good. the songs seemed alittle fast for me and there was a couple minor things that were odd but it was it was pretty good.
I like this song so much! We are playing it this year for festival. I don't like the way our director changed the way he conducts the 2nd act though. :S He changed it so it it 123 123 12 12. :(
i love this song. this performance was alright. i think the sax solo in the beginning was iffy. the person playing it should have held some notes longer. yea i know its hard to get a breath in there. but it can be done...and yes, the trumpets were out of tune. and i dont like that your conductor told you guys to play it down an octave. if you cannot do it exactly as its written...dont do it. srry about the negative comment. the attempt was good though.
@hi96720 ah thank you. thats what i thought

The saxophone soloist is supposed to tell the story NOT the trumpets

Ouch the band coming in at 17 was not so nice

I know it's written in 5/4, haha, didn't I just say I was playing it?
Yeah, we only found out he was alive the other day. He told the festival people to tell the conductors how he wanted it conducted.
Our conductor is having trouble with conducting it in 3/4, just because it's 5/4 and while it makes sense, it's very abstract.

I totally agree with admiralminell, I think the trumpet ego sort of overtook the saxophone solo when they came in.

Solo was horrid. Needs vibrato and needs to be more musical.
Trumpets were extremely out of tune.
More tenor sax.
