No, its the red led that my n95 uses for the auto focus.

Do you think a laser would affect it then?

Im not sure but from what i heard of Art Bells interview with Michael Marcum (vid on youtube) He modified a CD lazer and introduced it to the Jacobs ladder producing an interesting affect.
