Nope. That aircraft is not a Grumman PBY Catalina though it looks like one. Its actually a firefighting aircraft built on Canada by Bombardier with the designation CL- 415. During the fire season, Los Angeles County leases two of them from the Canadian Provence of Quebec and stations them at Van Nuys Airport. It can scoop up 1650 fal of water in 20 sec and drop it on a fire with pinpoint accuracy. But its as noisy as a PB. Before I retired from TV news I was around them a lot.
@newsmaninla oh wow. I showed this comment to my partner (the one who called them PBY) and he's like, "wow they do look strikingly similar from the bottom and behind. "
@dexamethasone I forgot to mention that this is Bill WA6ITF whom you and Jixser helped at the Dayton Hamvention a few years ago. I used to fly my friend's Aerocommander 560 twin out of Linden NJ in the 1960's that also looked a lot like a PBY but was land-based only and a lot smaller. We had a Gonset G-76 on board with a 56" wire whip to the tail. From 5000' above the tri-state NY-NJ-CT area could talk upward of 500 to 1000 miles in any direction on 6 meters.
@dexamethasone Yep, still here in the "City of Angels." Actually still in the same house in the suburb of Saugus. Only big change came last October when I retired from KTTV after 30 years and essentially became a full time writer instead of a full time broadcast engineer and a part time writer. RE: Flying: If you are on Facebook, find me (Bill Pasternak) and look at my album "Photos from Another Lifetime." The red and white high wing twin had the G-76 in it. Commanders are fun to fly.

@newsmaninla Oh wow (to you both being a pilot and Bill!). Do you still live in the LA area?
That's amazing, being able to talk 1000 miles away on 6 meters.
