Miles originially ecorded it on Porgy and Bess, but the version above - superior in my opinion - is on the album 'Miles and Quincy Live at Montreux' which is still available.

Well, he plays bass, but also alto, clarinet, bass clarinet, guitar, keyboards, and he can sing. It just doesn't look quite like Garrett, but I could be wrong. Does anybody out there have a definitive answer?
... This better be a joke... I doubt Marcus Miller could play with a 10th of KG's playing... Speaking of KG... Fuck Kenny G. These gay dude. But not Kenny Garrett
Good point. The original rendition exemplified the title, "Summertime," and its slower paced, laid back feel. The song is basically the same. But the interpretation of a song with this title should be true to the feel it provokes.
Anyone else think that Kenny Garrett sounded like a Soprano on this one? I literally had no clue it was an alto until I saw this video.

Yep. It's the arrangement that makes Summertime sound like mid-Winter! Plus Miles' trumpet sounds like it could cut paper. Is this on any albums?

One of my inspirations. My favorite track in the world, just more upbeat. Miles is "THE MAN". R.I.P.

I wonder why Quincy chose such a quick tempo for this, makes me feel a bit uneasy. I guess it was a very very busy summer...
migmarfin 4 years ago
That's the way Gil Evans did it with Miles.

I thought the tempo gave it a greater amount of dynamics. This whole show was awsome absolutely love Miles Davis and Quincy Jones.
