As far as I can tell, there was some sponsor money to be won, and one of the sumo was playing for laughs. Then at the end, someone patted him on the butt. -

Takamisakari is a crowd favorite because he shows his emotions and likes to slap himself when preparing for the match.

Even though he's not a great wrestler, he is well-known and appears in TV commercials.
